I am currently working on the Moore and Rice families of early Prince Edward county. If you descend from either of these families, please contact me. I'd love to share info and maybe by sharing info we can further piece these families together.

She was the daughter of James Rice, but I'm not sure who James wife is married to or which line he is from. It says...Wife Jane, land for her life and after her death divide between all my daughters, negroes Abram and Nanny, son John 10 shillings when wife dies, dau Mary negro Lucy and 40# when wife dies, son James negro Edward and if he dies negro sold and $ div bet all children, dau Suckey Rice negro Charles and if she die divided between all children, dau Nancy Davidson negro Ambeth, dau Sally Thomason negro Katey, dau Jane Blanton negro woman Sarah and her child Phillis, dau Patsy Rice negro woman Amy with 2 children Nat and Peggy, signed with his mark, witnesses William Morton, Susannah Morton, probated Dec. 15 1800. I hope this helps you. There is a Southern Rice rootsweb list that may be able to help you further.

Thanks Roberta.
I am sure this is our Sally. Was this information taken from a will written by James Rice? And if so, can you tell me the date on it? The information I have on her says she died bef 1812 in Prince Edward County, but I can find no proof of this. BUT, her last child, a son, was born abt 1810 in P. E. Co.

The next thing I found was that Arnold Thomason married a Mrs Elizabeth Smith (Mrs Henry Ligan)Jan 14, 1812

I would actually like to know IF she died, or was there a divorce? Thanks again,
Wanda

Yes, it was will book 2 in Prince Edward Co. My cousin photographed the page in the book. I have it someplace. I don't believe there is a date on the will because the date he used for Will book 2 was the date it was probated.

I doubt very seriously that they divorced. If they did, it would be in the chancery suits for Prince Edward County. Divorce was exceedingly rare at the time. It is most likely that she died.

The Ligon's were involved with this family as well. Do you have any idea whose child James, her father, was?

Feel free to e-mail me offline at restes@comcast.net.

I would love to have a copy of this will, but I don't know if they would look it up without my sending a date the will was written ot recorded or something. Do you have information as to Sally's DOB.? All I have is :abt 1779.

I tend to agree with you about Sally's death, because the information I have shows her last child born abt 1810, then Arnold marries again to this Ligan lady Jan 14, 1812.

Speaking of the Ligans, one of Arnold & Sally's sons married Elizabeth Ligan Mar 20, 1826, but I have no way of knowing if she was related to this Mrs Elizabeth Ligan or not. However, I imagine this could be her daughter since they were not related. Well, other than being "step-sister"

You may also email me direct at: Larwan3@aol.com. Don't know that there is anyone else researching this line of Thomason, Rice

No, I do not have any information whatso ever about James Rice

I’ve just changed my e-mail to robertajestes@att.net. I’ve had months of issues with Comcast that they were unable to resolve, so the change, though difficult, was necessary. Please update your records.

I also have two alternate e-mail addresses that you can use if you ever experience bounced e-mails using my primary e-mail and those are:

I’m trying to catch all my old messages, so if you receive this more than once, please forgive the inconvenience.

Thanks so much,
