I remember seeing them when looking for my 3 William Welch men. Do a search in your regular search box for Lucy Cundiff, wife of Wm. Welch, Hampshire, VA. I see lots of info on my other screen right now. Maybe it will help you. or I can copy and paste it to you if I had your reg. e-mail addy. Have you tried using LDS site for searching. I had lots of luck there on my lines.

I need to obtain copies of a transfer of "property" byJohn Cundiff, Sr., which supposedly appears on Book 32, p 163, July 4, 1835. from John Wm Cundiff my grandson and son of Wesley Cundiff of Hampshire County, One black man... in the possession of Wm Welch my son-in-law." I looked at the microfilm at LVA and somehow Book 32 is missing from the microfilm. Where else could I obtain copies? This is the only document I can find proving the Lucy Cundiff, wife of William Welch, as the daughter of John Cundiff.

I'll see if I can find anything on them and let you know. I did a quickie on NA but she didn't come up. Sometimes you have to do a page by page.
Hi Tammy,

I have a little info; had much more at one time, but two years ago, my computer got a major virus that wiped out nearly everything. Have had to rebuild my files, including my ancestry file. I continue to rebuild from a large box of information, a lot of which is handwritten from distant relatives that I contacted over the last 20 years. I have a handwritten document from Cora Melissa (Hartman) Steward who was married to Simon Henry Stewad - this was given to me by my late aunt (died this year at age 88) about 8 years ago. Cora wrote it out at the request of her father, David Wesley Hartman, many years before. It lists all of Cora and Simon's children and some of their spouses. For Simon Henry Steward, I have that his father was Samuel Steward (b. 1843) mar. Barbara Riggleman (b. 1859). She was his second wife, as he was a widower when he married her. Had his first wife and children, etc., at one time but they are lost now and I have to rebuild from handwritten records in my box/file (it's quite large). I have Samuel's father as William and his wife as Anna. Fred William Steward (1/13/1913) mar. Beatrice Grace Stanley (12/25/1938).
Does any of this help??
please reply to pophartman@yahoo.com

John Hartman
I have been looking for the Bible of William Welch for years. Last I can track down, it was in the possession of Vernon "Pete" Welch who died in a nursing home. It was transcribed in the 1930's for the DAR application of Pearl MOtt,but no photocopies back then, of course.

I am the State Registrar for Ohio, for the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. This Bible would constitute documentation for many of the facts stated in your email, especially John D.'s birthday and marriage date. I have never been able to find any other source for them, except people quoting the Bible records. My father, a great-grandson of William Ferdinand Welch, John D's son, actually remembered the Bible. I'd give anything to have photocopies!

If you have any other documentation for the dates of John D's birth or marriage, I'd love to have copies. Also, what does the D stand for? Alternate sources list Day and Devenport, but I've never seen anything.

Incidentally, I've been working on the Cundiff line, and sorting them out. They are a VERY old line, with wonderful intermarriages with some of the oldest families in Virginia. The Bible would be a great confirmation "Preacher Billy's" marriage, too. The list of marriages performed by Rev. William Welch does not include any of his own children by the way -- if you check dates, ages, etc. -- because it was an accounting list of what he was PAID to perform marriages. Great list, but doesn't help with John D. Welch and Sarah Jane Duling.

Hello, Minnie Rawlings, Welch was called aunt Min. Her real name was Ida. she was born in Ridgeville, West Virginia 11/5/1875. She had a brother Robert Wilson Rawlings and another brother Jesse Thadius Rawlings. Jesse had special needs. Her sisters were, Lucy (El),Meta and Lilly. Lilly died at 7 months old. Minnie's parents, Elijah Rawlings and Hester Ann Welch were first cousins. I am sure I seen on line somewhere Minnies marriage record to George Welch. I will keep hunting to see what I can find.
Thanks Debra,
Would you happen to have an obituary for George Welch (died 1949)? Also, I am trying to find him in the 1900 census. His wife Minnie was still counted with her parents in 1900, but no George. I don't see how George could possibly be related to Minnie's Welch relatives, but i'll keep looking. Thanks, Bob Kellner bkellner@kellfire.com.
Hello, My husbands clan is very much related to your Welch clan. Benjamin Rawlings had a daughter, Julia who married Benjamin Welch. Then Benjamins grandson, Peter married Lauranna Welch. Peter Rawlings had two sons that married Welch's. They were, Elijah Rawlings married Hester Ann Welch, daughter of Thomas Stuebin Welch and Isaac Rawlings married Fredericka Welch. Peter Rawlings is buried on the Welch Farm. There are other graves on that farm that the cattle have broken up the head stones. Peter's is the only one standing. My husband and I are now retired and want so very much to preserve these graves. We are almost certain that the old Benjamin Rawlings and his wife Julia Newcomb are buried in that area too. Does anyone know how we can work on this? These graves are behind and to the left of the Welch Family cemetary that is fenced in on the farm. The George Welch that married Minnie Rawlings, daughter of Elijah Rawlings and Hester Ann Welch may not be related, but these others are.

The Welches of Hampshire County/Mineral County, WV descend from Major John Welch, who was a Sheriff and Gentleman of the Quorum in Anne Arundel County, MD in the mid-1600's. Would be far removed from a Welch who immigrated in the mid-1800's. However, there is a possible Rawlings connection. The Rawlings connection is not part of my family, so I haven't researched it, but others certainly have. Be sure and look at the Mineral County forum, too.

Hello, Perhaps you can help me with my family tree research. My great-grandmother was Margery Ann Welch, born in Clearfield County Pa in 1858. Her brother George Welch (1867-1949) moved to Allegany County Md and married Minnie Rawlings (1885-1961) daughter of a Elijah Rawlings and Welch. Margery and George's father came from Ireland, but i am trying to figure out if there is a connection between the Clearfield County Pa Welchs and your Va/WV Welchs or if it is just a coincidence. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Bob Kellner
She did an amazing job and I so appreciate all of her effort and hard work (as do we all I am sure)! My cousin who lives in the area would be able to help me as well. Feel free to email any time. :)

I was working on some things last night, Hulda J. Tranum and family, and it took me about 6 hours to go through it all - and that was just one of Burbridge's and Sarah's children! You're right - the misspellings make it a lot harder to research. I actually had to look up Census records by location and then match the name because the spelling was so off it wouldn't come up in a name search.

Do you live in the Westernport/Keyser area? My cousin lives in Westernport and we come up to visit sometimes. Maybe we can catch up when I am in the area next time. My newest "project" is to locate Martha McManus Trenum's gravesite at Philos. I figured she'd be buried by Burbridge, but there's no headstone. I'm wondering if she even has a headstone.

Angelina - Yes I was there. I looked for you but must have missed your name tag. I was the person who took the mic and said we should thank Francis and her crew for their hard work. I wish we could do something special for her and her crew because that was a lot of work and a lot of out of pocket expense.

The material I have is in a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation format and I would be happy to share if I had your email address. Mine is tranumj6179@gmail.com.

I have found the research to be hard as even official records have their names spelled wrong at times. I'm about to form the opinion that we all should put a.k.a. before our names. Maybe if we had not been hit with the storm that more would have attended.

Hi! I am a great-great-grand-daughter of BC and have been slowly piecing together our ever-growing ancestry for years. If I have this straight, your father Calvin and my grandfather Lonzy (Bub) were cousins. His father was James Burbridge Trenum son of BC. My grandfather went on to name one of his sons Calvin Russell Duane Trenum, which I can only speculate was in honor of your father. Perhaps you can confirm that? I would love to have a copy of the family tree. My aunt and I have been working on information for next week as she will be attending the reunion you mentioned. Will you also be attending? I understand what you are saying in regards to sharing information while we still can; only recently I lost my amazing dad and with him the link to many stories/histories/accounts. A great deal of my information has come from public records and Angelina Zepp, who I have never met, but know I am related to!! I appreciate her dedication and yours as well ... please be in touch! Take care!

Jane,

If you've sorted out the Hampshire Co, (W)VA WELCHs we need to compare notes. I've scrolled some of the Hampshire Co PPTL trying to sort out my line from Sylverster WELCH (m Jemima CARROLL) to Elizabeth WELCH m James FLEMING. Of particular, and vexing, interest to me is Elizabeth's brother, Benjamin WELCH (m 1797 Mary BARTLETT, dau of my ancestor Thomas BARTLETT) - there were in the Harrison Co PPTL from 1798 to 1811; then in Hampshire Co, PPTL from 1812 to at least 1823; then back in Harrison Co, PPTL 1828 to 1843; then Taylor Co formed and Benjamin WELCH 70 "Nomad" was in Martin B SINSELL family in 1850 Taylor Co, VA census. So certainly Dorcas WELCH (m 1833 Martin B SINCEL) was a daugher. I don't know when Benjamin or his wife Mary died. I have some of his children tentatively identified. Do you have knowledge of his children?

Jim Bartlett jim4bartletts@verizon.net

Hi Pat,

Taking a trip back to the Keyser, Elk Garden, Piedmont areas with my father in early May. Have been working on the Mullen/Lowry line very hard lately and thought I would share a few things. My aunt Sue had notes that my uncle had taken looong ago that said Martin and Annie were married in Philadelphia (likely got this info from Mitzi's step mom and Kate Mullen's daughter, Elizabeth Wilson Ignasiak). Also, have been getting help with St. Peter church records in Westernport. All of Martin and Annie's children were baptized there. Martin came from County Clare and Annie County Galway (per baptism records). Many of the godparents appear to tie into another Mullen family in the area....siblings Edward, Patrick, Mary (Fallon) all born in County Clare, and John (I think he may be a half brother) who have a father Edward and could be possible cousins to Martin. Mary Mullen Fallon's death record lists Edward Mullen and Mary Quin as parents (though I think it may be Norry Quin). I'm trying to prove John was a half brother by a second marriage of Edward to an Anna...not sure on this. Also, in St. Pete records, found a James Kelly and Cecelia Lowry that Martin and Annie stand as godparents for their child (possible sister/relation to Annie?)

Long story short, I have been trying to piece together records and obits to put this story together. Also, have been looking at Irish records to try and bridge the gaps and my gut tells me our Martin and Annie may have been from the Parish of Kilkeedy (which borders counties Clare and Galway). Many of the names in that parish mirror the ones on the baptism records (Kelly, Carney, Joyce, Hehir, Grady, Mitchell and Mullen/Mullins). There a few birth records for children of Peter Mullins and Mary Carney that might be siblings of Martin based on their ages, (no rec for Martin, though). Also, there are 3 baptisms for children of Ed Mullins and Norry Quin, whose names and ages very closely align with Patrick, Edward and Mary in Piedmont. The Mullens have been a longstanding mystery for me, but I think I'm getting close to solving it...or at least having a pretty educated guess! Anyhow, thought I'd share the info.

Jen
