Hi Alison, The NSW archives have lots of info on convict records http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/archives/archives_in_brief_2_3... Of particular interest to you would be the Colonial Secretary's Papers (1826+), assignment registers, and applications to marry. They may have applied to marry and were refused, so it is always worth checking. You would have to use Joseph as your search person. Some convict records have been indexed, some not. There is also an index to the Parramatta Female Factory, but I don't know if they can be searched by ship as well. Check with your local library or family history society to see what they have. Just remember that indexes are a finding aid and you should look at the original documents, otherwise you might end up climbing someone else's tree! From the Surrey, Ann Doherty and Ann McGowan both appear on the same 1837 muster as your Ann, so they can be discounted. Ann McGennis/McGuiness was described as 'wife of James Smith' on her COF in 1839, so she can be discounted too if you know your Ann stayed with Joseph. Ann Brien and Ann Kelly apparently both died in 1837, so that leaves Murphy (COF 1838), McNally, a lifer, Walsh/Welch (COF 1839), and Ann Walker, who I suspect might actually be one of the above and married James Fitzpatrick in 1833 (he was the man she was assigned to). A process of elimination by following the fate of each of them might be the only way you will find your Ann if you can't find a mention in the records mentioned above. Good Luck
