I wonder if we are both looking for the same family here. My grandmother was Amy SIMMONS (born Fiji), her parents Marmaduke SIMMONS and Charlotte BOEHM. Marmaduke's parents were James SIMMONS b England about 1845, and Doretta (with a surname I have never seen spelt the same way twice - but along the lines of what you have posted!). Do we have a connection?
