Hi, everyone. Need your help. I happened upon a manifest that my cousin and I are researching for our family tree and it states that Antanas Paliankos (Anton Plocke?) came over to the US on the S.S. Bremen on 08/20/1913 and originated from Kisilirki, Russia. Where the heck is that?? I cannot find it anywhere. Has anyone heard of this place? Does it still exist? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

Just had translated letter from March 20, 1966 from Ursuli Racyliene, sister of Joseph (Yuozas) Pulokas. Letter sent from Vilkaviskis, supposedly near Vilnus. Joseph Pulokas is my husband's maternal grandfather. We know that Joseph Pulokas had many siblings but hadn't heard of Ursuli Racyliene before. Think "ene" on end of name is designation of gender/status. Joseph had dauther Isabel (Zebelinte).
Does anyone have any information regarding above?

Leaving the US

I'm trying to follow the trail of two potential family members. Antanas Paliaukas/Antanas Paliankos came to the US on the USS Bremen on 20 Aug 1913. I have located his passenger list and he was also detained. He was visiting Andrew Plocke in Ansonia, CT. The Ansonia City Directory has him moving to Detroit, MI with Michael Plock in 1918. I cannot find either of them in the 1920 census. Are there any records for folks leaving the US? I'm wondering if they returned to Lithuania. Or any other suggestions?

Thanks, Kathy

My grandfather, Jurgis Seniunas, came to England from Lithuania sometime between 1910 and 1915. He married my grandmother, Ursula Abraitis, also from Lithuania in 1915 in London. Soon after my mother was born, in 1917, Jurgis left England - and we don't know what happened to him after that.
Does anyone have any clues? Do you have an ancestor called Jurgis Seniunas?
Did he return to Lithuania, or did he go to USA or Canada perhaps and start a new life??

Many thanks

We are related to each other via Mike Sacauskas and Anton Sacauskis.

The original spelling was an S with a circumflex over it and pronouced Shacauskis. Don't know if the is or as is correct.

I'd be really interested in finding some relatives in Lithuania. My ancestors came from the Silale and Taurages counties.
Hi-researching my great grandparents who emigrated to US in 1903, 1906 respectively. Grandfather-Jonas Antanas (John Anthony) Normantas (Norman)-brothers Leonas and Vlada (Leon and Walter.) Jonas had a brother who went to South America instead of the USA. Jonas married Pranciszka (Frances) Simkaite (Shimkus,) whose parents were Ludwig Simkus and Ona Zaukauskas Simkiene. Pranciszka had several siblings Jonas (John) Carolis (Charles) Simkus, who married Kazimiera Velavicaite (Velovich) Simkiene. Antanas (Anthony,) who married Sofia Velavicaite (Velovich, sister of Kazimiera,) a sister Ona Simkaite who died young in Lithuania, another sister Eva Simkaite, a brother who was taken away by the Soviets in early 1900s. All were from Telsiai, and emigrated to the US, except Ona and the unknown brother. If this rings a bell to anyone, please let me know. There could also be a possible connection to the last name Raukauskas on the Narmontas side. Thank you.

My great grandmother, several siblings and her parents immigrated to the US 1888 to 1902. They were from the above village.

I don't know what the prospects are to obtain any type of records for them. Marriage, birth and for one member who returned to live a possible death record.

I do have birth dates and for most. I only have an approximate birth date for my great great grandfather. Nothing for my great great grandmother.

There are so many variations of the spelling of this surname ranging from SARPOLIS, SARPALA, SURPALA, etc., even within my own family.

The spelling variations show up on various documents inclding naturalization papers even though they are all in the same family.

Is there anyone who may be of assistance?

Thanks,
lilbees

Hello,
My wife and I are researching our family trees. Her Great Grandfather is Joseph Peter Staras born about 1880 possibly in Vilnius. At some point he immigrated to England and lived in Manchester. In 1903 he married Mary Zurgninute (have also seen it spelled Jaucunaczy and Jurkunute), she was born about 1878 possibly in Mariampole. Their children were Mary (b.1904), Kastansige (b.1906), Annie (b.1907), Joseph (b.1910), and William (b.1914) all born in Manchester. First off, wondering about the correct spelling of the surnames, and second if anyone happens to have any info on them? Thanks much,

Trent

I am researching the family of my grandmother, Jennie BECK (born in Vilna 1875, died in Bronx NY 1929). Her parents were Alexander BECK and Mina SZYNDER (soundex), siblings were Israel Meyer BECK and Daniel BECK. (This info can also be found at jewishgen.org)

It is believed that Jennie's grandfather was named Abraham SCHNEIDER (again, this is a soundex) - and was a Cantor in a synagogue in Vilna. Some of the family emigrated to London, where the family name was changed to SANDOW.

Anyone out there with any info?

Escaped the Cossacks?

This is just a note to relate a family story and ask for opinions on how likely it is to be true.

I have been told my great grandfather Alexander Dambrauskas left Lithuania some time prior to 1910 (when he married in Scotland) in order to flee from the Cossack draft. There is an old family photo of him in Cossack uniform but I have yet to see it. Does nayone have any opinions on how true this story is likely to be in light of what was happening in Lithuania and the Russian Cossacks in the early 1900's? Were Lithuanians forcibly drafted by the Russian Cossacks to carry out brutal acts on their own people?

Many thanks,

Derek.

SEMETA, Vaclovas (1917)-2008

The Times, Trenton, New Jersey, Sunday, October 19, 2008

TRENTON - Vaclovas "Mike" Semeta, 91, died peacefully Saturday at the Capital Health System at Fuld. Born in Kounas, Lithuania, Mr. Semeta came to the U.S. in 1949 and was a Trenton resident since 1951. He retired in 1979 after 18 years service with the Bayer Aspirin Company in Hamilton Township. After his retirement, Mike worked for the Trentonian for over five years and he became one of their, several times, "award winning" home delivery paper carriers. Also, he was one of the St. Hedwig's Church ushers for over 10 years. Additionally, he enjoyed taking care of his grandchildren, with family trips to the Jersey shore, especially Atlantic City, and fishing. Mr. Semeta was a real "people person", enjoying conversations about life and general news, blending it all together with his great and unique sense of humor. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Monika A. Czenis Semeta; his two sons and daughter-in-law, Edward M. and Victoria Semeta of Hamilton Township and Raymond J. Semeta of Trenton; his daughter and son-in-law, Anna and Al Tavares of Philadelphia; two grandsons, Brian Semeta of Hamilton Township and Stanley Bojko of Philadelphia; his granddaughter Julia Bojko of South Korea; and several other relatives in Lithuania. The funeral will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday from the Winowicz Funeral Chapel, 865 Brunswick Ave. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Hedwig's Church with Rev. Dr. Jacek Labinski presiding. Burial will be in St. Hedwig's Cemetery, Ewing Township. Calling hours will be 8:30-10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Hedwig's Church, 872 Brunswick Ave., Trenton, NJ 08638.
My last name is Donausky and was told the original name was Donauskas, but I have never been able to find any "Donauskas" on any genealogy search sites....ever.

Here's what I know:
Juozapas "Joseph" Donausky was born in 1892 in Lithuania (town unknown). He came to the U.S. in 1913. Married Rozalia Baquzas in 1918 in unknown church/location. Died in Illinois in 8 Nov 1952. I found him in the 1920 and 1930 census (both census had name completely wrong. 1920 is "joe domeski" and 1930 "joe danousky". I have the death certificate which lists parents names as unknown.

His wife, Rozalia Baquzas was born 4 Jan 1889 in lithuania (town unknown. Died 13 March 1980 in illinois. Parents listed on death certificate were Joseph Baquzas and Anna Sokolouskas.

Any information you can give would be GREATLY appreciated. I've hit a wall with this family line. I have no idea how to proceed from here with this information.

I am searching for information on Lithuanian hometowns of my relatives. Alexander Beckeris (1888 - 1952) emigrated to Chicago, his father was Karoll Beckeris. Alexander was married to Pauline Beckeris (1893 - 1969), whose father was Alexander Koneika. Any information would be greatly appreciated as I am travelling to Lithuania in November and would love to visit places where my great-great-grandparents may have lived.

Hello,

I'm new. The family names I'm interested in are: Breivis (Breive, Breivo, Breiva), Saunor (Sawnor) and Debesis. I've been told the Breivis family owned a large farm, best guess just outside Klovainiai. The Saunor and Debesis families had smaller farms around Pasvalys (best guess). I don't know anything about these farms or possible family still living in the Baltic's. The notes I have had few Breive brothers in the 1920's still there. The Debesis family moved to Riga. The Saunor family - no idea.

Rumor has it there was a major Russian census taken of Lithuania in 1897, stored in Vilnius Historical Archives. I'd think this would be a great place to start. Has any of that been translated? Does anyone have access to it?

Any other suggestions or clues?

Thanks,

Adam

FYI - I came across the following entry in Wikipedia regarding the eight most popular/common surnames in Lithuania.

I justed started researching my Paulauskas line and see that the surname is the eighth most common surname in Lithuania so it will be tough trying to find the right one.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most_common_surnames#Li...

Most popular Lithuanian surnames 2007:

#	For men For women
1	Kazlauskas	Kazlauskienė
2	Stankevičius	Stankevičienė
3	Jankauskas	Jankauskienė
4	Petrauskas	Petrauskienė
5	Vasiliauskas	Vasiliauskienė
6	Žukauskas	Žukauskienė
7	Paulauskas	Paulauskienė
8	Urbonas Urbonienė

It's not surprising that the married female spellings (i.e., IENE ending) of the family surnames spellings align in the same rank order.

My sympathies go out to those researching the Kazlauskas surname and the challenges they face.

Tom S.

Greetings all. My great grandmother came from Lithuania. I have been given the name "Wilmontewichie", but I can't ever find this name on any map or search engine. Does anyone know this village? Is the spelling wrong? Also, her name from Lithuania was "Siemiesz", her mother being a "Malinawska"...I am getting very interested in my Lithuanian heritage..I just read Charles Bronson's parents were Lithuanian...I grew up in VT close to his farm there...but this is the first I knew about his Lithuanian heritage! Thanks everyone, for your help....

My Ba (grampa) was STANLEY KUKAS. He had 2 brothers; Joseph and John. His parents were Joesphine and Peter Kukas. I do not know Josephine's maiden name (yet) mom has had 2 strokes so I am having to do more leg work. Mom did mention that her dad's family may have changed KUKAS from something else when they migrated from Lithuania. The lineage is from Vilnius mom said. I don't have dates as of yet. Can anyone assist me with the KUKAS name and VILNIUS connection??? Or KUKAS and the name change possibility? ANY assist will be appreciated. There are NO Kukas surname mailing lists. Can't locate the name anywhere so far. Not giving up:)
StanleyKukas married Elmere Kathryn Howard and they had 2 children: Lois Claire Kukas and Joseph Howard Kukas.
Lee Brawley
lackland60@live.com

My great-grandfather, surname Pauliukaitis, came from a town he spelled "Vincantava," which I assume to be Vincentavas. I always thought the city he was from was in Telsiai County, but I just found another Vincentavas in Kaunas County. Does anyone know if there are other villages called Vincentavas also? I think that the location near Kaunas could be more accurate, because I don't think he spoke Zemaitiske.
I had an uncle (by marriage), surname Brozis (z with superscript 'v'), who wrote down the name of his hometown in Lithuania as "Sausenisci." I have no idea what place he was referring to. Any suggestions/help?

Kaptorowicz, Brochita, Dzindzilutie/Zinzileite

These are surnames pertaining to different ancestors of mine. I know the first is completely Polish in spelling, so I am guessing that the Lithuanian would be something like Kaptorovicius. Has anyone heard of that name or something similar?
My great-grandmother's mother's last name was listed as "Brochita." I thought that maybe it could have ended in e (with the dot above it), since it was the unmarried feminine form. Would that yield the name Brochis/Brochus? I've never seen that name before.
One more: my great-grandfather wrote down his mother's maiden name as both Dzindzilutie and Zinzileite on different documents. I think the z's had the 'v' superscript above them. Would that yield the masculine form Dzindzilus or something similar? Has anyone heard of that name before?
Sorry for so many questions, but I have been meaning to post on a Lithuanian genealogy board for a long time now.
