In 1912 he was in Oakland, California, but I don't know what name he was using, possibly Ole Nelson. He also had a sister, Britha Vinsand in Iowa. Guro died in Wisconsin in 1912, she was married to Gulek Kolve. Thanks for any info.

Gulsvik family from Hallingdal: Descended from Sigurd Mund?

Does anyone have any information on the theory that the family who owned the Gulsvik farm in Fla, Hallingdal was directly descended from Sigurd Mund? I have been told that Sigurd Mund's daughter Helge married Hjarande Gunnarsen Hvit. Their son Gunnar was the founder of the Gulsvik family farm in Fla. I can't verify any of this, but I am interested to know if it could be true. I have the entire line, if anyone is interested. Thanks very much.

We have been working through a spelling problem with place of birth and even his first name. This is what we have at this time.
Lawrence, Lorenz or Lorentz Pedersen, Lawrence was used the most.
Date of birth: April 1858, from the 1900 Michigan census
Location of birth: Lofenden Norway but we think it was a misspelled and should be Lofoten
Came to the US: 1881, from the 1900 Michigan census
No record of parents, brothers or sisters remaining in Norway or coming to the US.
Married: Hulda Peterson/Patterson in 1883. We think in Whitehall Michigan. The church that they attended is no longer active and we are trying to find the records.
Lawrence and Hulda had 8 children and he pasted away on Feb. 17, 1921 in Fruitland Twp.. Muskegon Co. Michigan, USA. Any information would be Great.
Roz Boyer
Rotie/Roti Family

Hi,

My wifes GG Grandfather was a gentleman called John Roti. On his death cert it states his nationality as Finland (not Finnish) however family legend states that he was from Norway and not Finland. In some reasearch on the net I found an interesting reference to Finnmark a province of Norway. Is this true? If it is are there any Roti/Roties that come from that area?

John was born in c.1850 to a David Roti (who was rather unhelpfully a fisherman). John was a sailor who latter married a Welsh girl however he died at sea shortly after his marriage and his Rotie descendants (the surname altered from Roti to Rotie during this time) continued to live in Wales.

Any help or advice on Norweagian internet records (which I can't seem to find) would be fantasic

Many Thanks

Rich

Looking for information on my great grandfather, Carl K. Olsen b. 14 Oct 1879 in Norway, possibly in or around Bergen; d. 5 May 1956 in Warrenton, Oregon.
Received a copy of his Minor's Naturalization Record that states he appeared in open court on 3 Oct 1900 in Webster City, Hamilton Co., Iowa to make application to become a US citizen. It was signed on 21 Aug 1908, also in Webster City, Hamilton Co., Iowa. He was living in Fort Dodge, Webster Co., Iowa on 14 Aug 1908, as I have a copy of a receipt from the General Land Office from Rapid City, South Dakota which gave Fort Dodge as his address on this date.
Carl had purchased land in Cooper, Meade Co., South Dakota and built a sod and timber home in Jan. 1909, and he and his wife (name unknown....first name may have been "Minnie") established residence in the home on 4 Feb 1909.
Would like to find out whether Carl and his wife had any children together, what became of them? Did Carl and his divorce? Something happen to her?
Hoping someone out there has some info on Carl and his first family, or has Olsen's that came from any of these areas. Would like to hear from anyone who does.....
Please email me direct also.
Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Valerie Reynolds
I am researching my great-grandfather who emigrated from Norway around 1907-1910. His name was Pedar (son of Andrew) Tiljetness (?), born 14 July 1885, who lived at one time in the farm of Kaarodale. He married a Marit Reitan, born 13 January 1880 in Vinjeora, Norway. I know there are cousins still in Norway, as a great-aunt contacted them 30 years ago. This information has been all word of mouth, so some may be incorrect. Anyone who can help me, it would be much appreciated.

Can anyone tell me where I could send a scanned image of the inside cover of my GGrandfather's bible for translation? It is a couple of sentences handwritten which includes his name. Somebody wrote it when it was given to him, I'm guessing. I've tried some of those translator websites, but it seems to lose context. Can anyone help?

Does anyone know anything about Teppan?

These ancestors are Johan Petter Hansen Nordli (b. 23 FEb 1846 in Elverum on his birth register and Teppan on his confirmation register) and his unmarried parents, Hans Engebretsen Nordli and Olia Johnsdatter. I can't find any information on Johan's parents, except that Olia is from Teppen and Hans is from Nordlie of Hof.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Kosernaug

A marriage record from Ettrick, Trempealeau County, Wisconsin, USA between

Ole Olson and Antoinette Pedersdatter on 12 December 1875 indicated that Ole was from "Kosernaug". He was some 24 years of age at this point in his life. [I have the history of Antoinette, but am looking for Ole.] This marriage record located at the French Lutheran Church inEttrick, Wisconsin also indicated that his parents were Ole Olson and Margit Bjornsdtr....

Any help would be greatly appreciated in your thoughts where to look further back on this family.

I run into issues at about the 1884 (when my g-grandfather was born... let alone, I cant find a birth certificate or registration at the church for this baptism.) or greater time period. Thus the great need for the 1890 Federal census. This would help clarify his place of birth. Some census' have indicated he was born in Norway, others Dane County, yet another location has indicated a possibility in Racine County Wisconsin. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. There is no knowledge of where his family came from in Norway, thus, the Unknown area...

Few others have mentioned Koshkonong, not too far from Madison, Dane, County WI, USA; but I live in the TwinCities of Mpls and St Paul, Minnesota... Madison is 5 hours away drive.

Olson is the Married last name
Lie is a witness to the marriage of Ole and Antoinette
Hogan is my last name... [too many Olson's on the mail route and 2 of 3 brothers wanted to change it to the Norwegian 'Haugen' but the clerk was Irish, thus the 'Hogan'
Haugen - same story as above...

Thankyou for any help or ideas one can provide.

Hello
A friend is trying to find her Great grandmothers family in Norway. Not much info to go on. Anna Hopen came to USA as a servant with Soren Sorensen. possibly in 1890 they went to
Wisconsin. But we cant find her in a census. In 1891 she had a son Henri Olai Sorensen but she was single never married so it is unknown why she gave him the sorensen name. He ended up living with an Abrahamson family.later a Johnson family. sometime in the 1940s he changed his name to Henry Oscar Johnson.
Are there any passenger lists to search for Anna Hopen coming to usa with the Sorensens.
any help or Ideas would be greatly appreciated I know nothing about Norway genealogy.

He left 2 brothers and a sister in Norway, Christson, Jon, and Maren or Marta. His father was Carl Eriksen or possibly Carl Carlson. The only other names I know are Ragnhild and Jenny ( his nieces possibly) and Wang, which might be his mothers name. As you can tell I don't have very much. But I do have pictures, with Norwegian writing on some. If anyone knows any of these names I would appreciate any information. My grandfather Martin Carlson? was born in 1884.

Hansen Ancestor

Am searching for any info that might lead me to the gr-grandfather that died in Norway. His widow Caren Pauline Hansen came to America with her 3 sons: Hans Oscar, Carl Martin and George John in 1887 on the SS Hekla to be with her brother Ole Johnson who lived in Iowa. The children were listed as born in Christiana. The youngest was only abt one year old at the time. We believe my gr-grandfather's name was Michael because my father said that had they not kept the Hansen name , his father Hans would have been Hans Michaelson. I have no other place names to go by and am not sure if Caren's maiden name would have been Johnson or Johnsdotter. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Doris

Seeking information on Ole (Olson) Sandland, believe to be born in Christainsand, Norway. I have two birth dates, May 1847 and 1856. Do not know when he came to United States but believe to have married Gunneld Anderson in US. Her parents were Anders Gunulsen Berge, born Nov. 26, 1828 at Kviteseid, Telemark, Norway and Edel Christiansdatter Kilen, born June 3, 1832 at Kviteseid. Believe Ole Sandland may have came to US in about 1880.
I have begun tracing my family roots and I have been given a family history on my father's side of the family. The history was badly formatted. I had someone fix the formatting and most of it is now in story format. I need some help trying to understand it. Especially when surnames are changing with each generation and farm names and when farm names are turning into surnames. It's very easy to get confused on this? Can anyone help?

I am researching ancestors that came from Norway, particularly the Dokka area. Some of them lived on the Gaarder Farm. My Great-grandfather's name was Hans Andreas Haraldsen. Some went by the name Haraldsen, Hansen, Gaarder and much earlier Lukasstuen. They all come from Dokka and lived on farms Gaarder and Dahlby--mostly they are buried at Ostisnni Cemetary. I would love to hear if we have made any connection. My great-grandfather was born Apr. 15, 1846.

I have tried to use the 1900 census form for Norway to locate the family of Olaf Hjarman Horn b 30 January, 1889. None of my entries on the search form produced any results.
The only other thing I know about Olaf Horn is that on the passenger manifest for his arrival in USA on 23 May, 1907 he stated that he had a sister Ellen K_athaven living in Maddock, ND. I tried finding her on the 1910 ND USA census but was not successful.
Is there anyone that can tell me how to locate the Horn family on the 1900 Norwegian censuses ?

Thanks, Bettye

The manifest passenger list for SS Bergensfjord departed Christiania, Norway on 23 May 1915 shows the name of Ole Skramstad as the father of Lorine and Lilly Skramtad. I have enlarged the image as much as possible but I still cannot read where he resided.
On the 1910 U. S. Census for Eureka, Humbodt Co., CA a Martin Olsen, age 47, born in Norway, immigrated to U. S. in 1874 at the approx. age of 10 years. It is not know if Martin immigrated with his parents or someone else.

His father's birthplace is listed as Sweden and his mother's birthplace as Norway. Their names are not known. His wife's name was Olga Nelsen, or Olga Jacobsen, or both. Various records show both surnames. She died in 1903 in Eureka, Humboldt Co., CA. Martin was a seaman in that area and died of drowning at age 55 in 1913.

The couple is known to have had children Engatimal, b.1886, d. 1887, Evelyn, Margaret Natalie b. 1892, d. 1980, Arthur b. 1897, d.1913, Raymond, b. 1896, d. 1955. There could possibly have been other children.

Can anyone help me find birthplaces of this couple and parents names as I do not have the Norwegian or Swedish language capabilities.
Looking for family of Anton Solberg - possibly from Kristiansand. Not sure. Born circa 1870's. (Believe he may have been a seaman).
Married in Fremantle Western Australia to Maud Ada Florence Hall 1893.
Two Daughters Lillain & Hilda. Can only find birth certificate for Hilda in Australia - so Lillian possibly born in Norway. They lived in Australia for a while then family returned to Norway. Eventually Maud returned to Australia with children & married again. No idea if death or divorce.
Can anyone help?
Louise.
