My 3rd great grandfather Lambert Halter (born 1804) who married Elizabeth Kapps (born 1807) came to America in the early 1800's from this area in France. Wondering if anyone has any information or where I can start looking. I am new to genealogy and can use any and all help. Thank you.

I am researching the Foltzenlogel family and have information from the baptismal records of St. James Catholic Church located in White Oak, Ohio (near Cincinnati (Hamilton County), Ohio and on at least one or two of the children's christening records a Halter is listed as being Godparent. If interested in the names, please write at VLP2460@AOL.COM and I'd be glad to provide those names.

I am not sure of the region of Alsace that they were from. I know that they settled south of Vincennes, Indiana in 1837, and were rumored to have lived across the Wabash river around St. Francisville, IL before moving to Indiana. How long they lived in Illinois is unknown, or at least to me. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

WOW!!! What great news! I had no idea this information existed!!! Thank you so very much! Where were you able to find the information? Is there any other information available, or any direction you can point me towards to further my search? I would LOVE to know more about town/area that he lived, when he married, when he left to America, and his life in general. THANK YOU so very much! Are you perhaps related to the Halter line, or are you one of those kind souls that like to help others out? I feel I owe you one!

THANKS!!! The last time I looked (been awhile since my wife and I started a family) there was nothing before coming to America. I'm so excited to find out there's more information out there! Especially since it also has his parents and siblings. Thank you so very much for the information! Is there any other information available, or a direction you can point me towards to find more information? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you again!!!

I realize that you have some of this, but ...

You might check with your local LDS for BMD records for Birkenwald.

Review the possible locales in Alsace here:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~fraalsac/alsaceaz/
See, for example the part on Birkenwald showing that most families were Catholic.

A lot of information on this family in Indiana is here
http://halterfamily.com/lambert_halter_i.htm

More here including information from the Alsace Emigration book:
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

They are also mentioned in this boo:
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/o/l/s/Richard-O-O...

Some Halter-Ruppel families:
http://members.fortunecity.com/johndmcmullen/RuppelFamily.ht...

Good luck with your research.

Merv - NOT related.

HI,

Lambert HALTER appears on the Emigration list 1827-1838
for Haguenau, as family of 2 (prob. Lambert and his wife,
and no child).

See :
genealogy.rohrbacher.net/cim4580/ (2nd page, line 25)

This does't mean he was born in Haguenau, as told in
Cornelia's SCHRADER-MUGGENTHALER Alsace Emigration Book.

An other HALTER family migrated to USA from Birkenwald :
genealogy.rohrbacher.net/rolling as family of 5 (line 5)
could be related.

Charles - not related.
