My Heberle line, or should I say lines criss-cross back and forth a couple times, one of my fourth great grandfather's, the Mayor of Reichshoffen actually married a Heberle who was his first cousin...whoops!

I find one Joseph Heberle in my tree, though he died at two years old in 1831 in Dambach. Do you happen to have parentage information on your Joseph and also his birthdate?

Josh

Thanks you very much for the information and I have confirmed that these are the names of parents for Leonard Pfister. I obtained marriage records from St Joseph's Cath. Thank you very much for the look-up and I will try to get Haegen microfilm tape from LDS. qroots@hotmail.com

Hello Josh,

Here is what I wrote on the FRA-ALSACE mailing list some time ago. There are more CD's about the 1836 census today than in 2006.
Best wishes.
Albert

On Sunday 08 October 2006 8:36 am, Albert KLEIN wrote:
> Hello Valorie,
> You might find censuses in France (Alsace included at that time, of course)
> in 1774, 1806 and 1817 in some limited areas. Censuses became nationwide
> from 1836 on and took place every 5th year until 1936, then every 10th
> year. During the German time (1871 - 1918) the frequency might be more
> irregular. Unfortunately, some data have disappeared mainly because of the
> wars. These censuses are kept at the departmental archives (Strasbourg for
> the Lower Rhine Department, Colmar for the Upper Rhine Dep. and Metz for
> the Moselle one) but you have to know the village if you want to find your
> people without browsing all of the actual paper forms.... The only
> exception consists in 3 databases compiled by C. GEYER on three CDroms and
> concern the 1836 census for 3 limited areas in the Lower Rhine Department
> (Strasbourg-city, the district (arrondissement) of Wissembourg (103
> villages), and the two sub-districts (cantons) of Bischwiller and Haguenau
> (37 villages). Details about the 1836 census can be found at the following
> address : http://site.voila.fr/census1836/UK/main.html
> (which doesn't seem to work at the moment...)
> Best wishes
> Albert Klein
Hi.

I recently began delving into Alsace history...including obtaining the 1836 Census of Wissembourg which has proved extremely useful. I realize a lot of the towns have vital records available to be viewed via LDS microfilm...

However, I was curious if there were any other similar census records available like the one done in 1836. Were there any earlier or later?

Thanks for your assistance,

Josh

By the way, I research the following surnames in the region:

Ziliox; Blum; Augstburger; Diemer; Merckel; Acker; Nussbaum; Grauel; Martz; Lehmann; Rauch; Grussenmeyer; Herrmann; Loschine; Ziegler; Biltz; Heitz; Heberle; Wirth; Schuver; Walther; Saur; Wolfe; Piquet; Jacobi; Ay

I am researching the Trauths also. My ancestor Maria Eva Trauth married Joannes Gruber in 1811 in Herxheim, Laudau, Pfalz Germany. Many of the people in this line are from Essingen, a few miles away, I believe. Maria's father was Mathaus Trauth (m. Margaretha Eichenlaub). I think these families all came to the US in the 1840s' thru Louisiana. They were Catholic. My Grubers ended up in Louisville and I am pretty sure they are related to some of the Cincinatti Grubers because of a striking similarity of given names and occupations. I havn't found evidence that the Trauths or Eichenlaubs made it to Louisville, altho there are both in LA records.. Most of my Trauth info came from the LDS.

My mother in laws father is Jacques Paul Zimmerlin, b. Mar 2, 1925. We are trying to find any info on him. I have his birth certificate but can't make out his mothers name. His father is Paul Edmond Germain David (Zimmerman). Jacques wasn't married to her mother, and from her stories, he was in the French military and possibly lived in Germany for a while. I can't seem to find anything on him whatsoever. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I came across your posting from 2001 and am hoping you receive this. I have been trying for years to find more information on my greatgrandfather, Frederick Stabell's family. I don't have much information. Frederick's fathers name is also Frederick and he was born in Norway about 1833, married Isabella Dorathea Ericson. They had three children, Albert, Joseph and Frederick (my grandfather). If you have any information to share it would be greatly appreciated.

Johannes Philip Weltzheimer was actually born at "Berlin-Stadt, Brandenburg, Preussen" in 1730. He likely moved to the "Lower Alsace, France" region before immigrating to the United States. He left "Lisbon Portugal" for the USA in 1765 on Oct 15 on a ship called "The Polly". He had his son Phillip 11 with him. They first landed near or in Lancaster PA. From there they went to Shepherdstown VA/WV. Shortly after JPW arrived in the USA his second son "Frederick" was born. All three served in the "Revolutionary War". JPW served as a gunsmith. He died in Frederick Maryland 1803(1830).

Hello,
Can you please look to see whether there are any Hammann or Hamann listings? I know there were a few in Strasbourg and Wissembourg. Also, does anyone happen to have access to the 1836 records for other Cantons, especially Bouxwiller, Drulingen, La Petite-Pierre and Sarre-Union? Thanks a ton in advance for any help anyone can provide.
Brian Hamman
brianhamman@yahoo.com
In addition to those listed Charles, George, and Michael Stoskopf of Wasselonne, Alsace were the ancestors of those Stoskopfs in Ohio (Cuyahoga and Medina counties).
They were apparently sons of a George Stoskopf (B. Kirwiller? and died after 1860 in Ohio.) who married Marie Fuch. Does anyone have additional information on these families or on the Wasselonne (or Kirwiller) branch of Stoskopfs?

Hello Cindy,

Your first messages on Rootsweb dates back to 2000... I suppose/hope that in 9 years' time someone has already forwarded you the information I have.
I'm Albert KLEIN from Alsace and I'm not related at all. I just remembered finding lots of information about some ancestors in Weiterswiller from Mr François SCHUNK's website which you most probably know.

http://pagesperso-orange.fr/f.s.weiters/SiteWeiters/Etat%20c...

On this page (Etat civil) you will find a file with births (Naissances) from 1st Jan 1793 to 31 Dec 1872 :
- There is only one Michel, born on 24 Feb 1807 from Philippe Jacques VOEGTLING and Salomé HANS (these two didn't get married in W. see lutheran/protestant church books : registres paroissiaux protestants; and none of the three lived in W when the 1st French census took place in 1836, nor on the following ones in 1841 and 1846) (Census : see recensements)
From the church books I learnt that all VOEGTLINGs were lutheran.
- There is only 1 boy born in 1815, named Georges, born on 3rd Jun 1815, from jean Henri V. and catherine HUSSER. But in the 1846 census he still lives with his mother and is said to be an imbecile/mentally disabled...

In the Grenier (=attic) in Coffre (=chest) 3, you will find a reconstitution of the VOEGTLIN family (see #25, no place of marriage...)

Hope this email address is still the right one... (Actually it isn't...)

Best wishes and good luck.

Albert

Hello I only just read your post of the year 2000. I am from the Pittsburgh Voegtly family. My grandmother was the grand-daughter of Nicolas Voegtly. Her father was Nicolas' oldest son, William. He married Mary Quinn, a housemaid of the Voegtly's, and had four children. They were all born in Pgh, died in Youngstown, Ohio, except the youngest Chester. The eldest grandson of Nicolas went to California as a young man and died there. I would appreciate a reply through my email, and to discuss the family further, to gain more information.

thanks

I believe that one of my ancestors is in all three and served at one time as a Conductor. I am willing to send these to anyone who might have more information about these groups. The Postcards I have are as follows; (1910) Musiksection des. kath. Junglings-Vereins Gebweiler [trans. Music sectio of the Catholic Association?); (1930) Harmonie de Buhl; and (1938?) Societe de Musique Ouvriere - Liberte - Guebwiller.
If anyone has any information on these groups or wishes to view these postcards.
Hi again,
That's the newspaper that has the La Rochelle with Margareth Seubert & Burkhard Buettel aboad. They were seated together. I've seen from the Australian Archives about alien registrations document for Andreas just before the 1st world war. This document says 1859 he entered into the Commonwealth & he was of german background, born 1837. They were suspicious about germans then as well as ww2. Margareth came from Wenkheim some distance SE of Wertheim, & her & parents can be found on the IGI, interesting that I haven't been able to find Andreas' immediate family on the IGI though. There are immigration documents asking for release from the state for Margareth & the Burkhard Buettel. I did get Andreas', these were not cheap about 40 euros. The little church Wehrkirche of Urphar is where Andreas & his folk would have attended I believe. If you type it into Google images you'll find a nice selection of pictures. Cheers

Apologies for not writing in French. I am unable.

My father's ancestors left Durlinsdorf in 1872. They were

Louis MEYER
1829-1910

and his son,

Eugene MEYER
1862-1911

Also their extended family. I have their original immigration records and travel documents, as well as many photographs.

They moved to Kentucky, United States, where they started a farm that my family still owns. Also interesting, the church founded in their community is called St. Peter and Paul, the same as in Durlinsdorf.

I have also been searching through microfilm records from Durlinsdorf, including the French Civil Records, and church records, with quite a bit of success. I still have much more to do, as the French language is difficult for me to decipher.

I am very interested in all things Durlinsdorf, as it is a place that my family has talked about for generations. I hope to eventually travel there one day.

Hi,
I don't know about the French-Canadian aspect, but Mr N Buettel's book always gave me the impression that Andreas & his folk were from Alsace Lorraine, certainly much further back they may have roots there, & Andreas may have done part of his military service there. But recent research aided by a german genealogist has found that Andreas & his parents were in Urphar, Wertheim. He made application to emigrate from there. There could be a relationship to another Buettel family who emigrated about mid 1700's to Pensilvania, I think, but have to wait a see what else he finds. I have never found Andreas on the the LDS Hamburg listings, but Margaretha Seubert 26 who was seated next to 18 yo Burkhard Buettel, it's little bit strange. Don't know what happened to him. Leave there for now. LS

HI,

Lambert HALTER appears on the Emigration list 1827-1838
for Haguenau, as family of 2 (prob. Lambert and his wife,
and no child).

See :
genealogy.rohrbacher.net/cim4580/ (2nd page, line 25)

This does't mean he was born in Haguenau, as told in
Cornelia's SCHRADER-MUGGENTHALER Alsace Emigration Book.

An other HALTER family migrated to USA from Birkenwald :
genealogy.rohrbacher.net/rolling as family of 5 (line 5)
could be related.

Charles - not related.
