I am looking for marriage information in relation to Louis Castaignet who was the harbourmaster in Honfleur during 1830 - 1850 period. Also trying to find the birth of his son Peter in 1836, and possible other siblings. Peter later emigrated to Australia and founded the maternal line of my family. On Peter's Australian marriage certificate his Mother's name has been transcribed incorrectly ( was written atrociously) as Leander Choline - i can't even guess as to a correct name for that. There is a family story that the family is originally from Spain, and just recently i have heard from an a lady researching the family of one of Peter's daughters (octavia) that her family story is that the Castaignet's are from Andorra.

Any help, thoughts, information would be greatly appreciated. I'm at a loss how to research French records.

Hi Angela,

I had a brief email conversation with you some 6 months ago on the message board. I am still very unsure with this research. Yes - I am also from the Peter Castaignet line via the Briggs family - and also still trying to find some basis to the story we were also told about the family coming from Andorra. How did you come up with the information on Peter's father and also his immigration details?

Many thanks. Lorraine Lane
