We are talking about the same family here. I'm a descedent of Felician Simon, a brother to your Julius and to Angie's Peter. Felician went to Arkansas where he and Charles Mousty (a 1/2 brother) worked for the Cleveland family. Felician married Sarah Jane Oliver and they had one child, my great grandmother Pearl. Later known as Felix Simons he died around 1910 in the area of Blain Bottom, Haskell County, OK. I would love to exchange information and photos. I noticed there are some updates regarding Josephine's maiden name, I would sure like to hear about that. I can be contacted directly at mustacheusa@aol.com. Also you mentioned a book???

I just found the info you posted. Happy to have found a connection. I have a cousin Debbie Sly who was doing research on the family and also one off Firman's daughter did some research and printed a book about her family and a connection to the other brothers and sisters. I would like a copy of the picture. I hope we can stay in touch and share info. At the present time most of my info is a jumble of several family surnames as I have been in touch with both my mom's and now my dad's families and have yet to sort it all out. If you wish you may email me directly the address is pklem@ncn.net. Hope to hear from you again and will send you family pict. etc if you want. I don't have a lot of information on the Simon family but I could furnish you with some info on Anna Simon Vernia family as well as a some of their cousins. Also if you could I would appreciate knowing what resources you used in finding the information you have.
Thanks again. P. S. I am the oldest grandaughter of Anna Simon and Ernest Vernia and live in Iowa

Yes, it is the same family. In fact I had a hard time finding Firman because I thought his name was Sherman for the longest time. I have alot of information on this family. My connection is with Peter Simon who is Julius's brother and Firmam's uncle. Peter was in the land run in OKlahoma and that is where I live.
I'll be happy to share my information. I have a copy of a picture of Julius and Mary Felica Rouzot. Not a good copy but I am happy to have it and will send you a copy if you want. The one thing I am trying to find out and confirm right now is Josephine's (this is the mother of Julius and Peter) death date and have proof of her maiden name. I know she was in Kansas in 1885 and then returned to IN. She does not appear on the 1900 census so I asume she died between that time. No death records can be found. By word of mouth I have her maiden name as Rogot from one researcher and Pierrard from another. Email me at angiegb@brightok.net so we can exchange information.
Angie

I don't know if we are talking about the same family. My grandmother had a brother by the name of Firman Simon. He was born in Harrison Co.Indiana I believe. My grandma was Anna Frances Simon and married Ernest Vernia in St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Frenchtown. They moved to Iowa after their marriage. Her brother Firman also came to Iowa and Married a Mary. I have some information about this family if we are talking about the same Simon family. The Fathers name was Julius and the mother's maiden name starts with an "R" I believe her first name was Mary Felice I have seen her last name spelled as Ruzot, Roseau etc. Firman and Anna also had sisters named Katherine,Josephine and a brother named Fred. There were other siblings as well but would have to find the book that it is in. If this information coincides with yours please let me know. I was in ID. a couple of years ago and found the graves of Jules/Julius and his wife also Josephine and her husband Herman Barnes (Anna's sister and brother-in-law.

First, St Malo is not in Bourgogne but in Bretagne (Brittany), in Ille et Vilaine Departement.
St Servan is an ancient city, now attached to the city of St Malo.

On this page:
http://www.geopatronyme.com/cgi-bin/carte/nomcarte.cgi?nom=c...

You have the location of all "Canto" born between 1891 and 1915.
By clicking "Ille et Vilaine" on the table right, you have all the cities of birth of this departement.

It is encouraging to see that "Servan sur Mer" is among those 10 cities

Unfortunately, it is not possible to have more details here.

The only solution now is to apply for birth certificates at the mairie of St Malo.
http://genealogy.about.com/od/france/French_Genealogy_Family...

Explain that the birth must be in the register of St Servan

Bonne chance,
Jérôme

I am researching Peter Herin. May have changed his name upon arrival to the US (1850's) from Pierre. Family history says that he and his brother (name unknown to me) left France for New Orleans. It seems the parents wanted to send them to a monastary. The brother died soon after arriving here and Peter settled in Cobden, IL. I have been told they were from the Bordeaux region.

Does anyone know this family or have any ideas where to start in France?

Thanks!, Traci

We have emailed each other before. My line is from Peter Simon. I still might be able to help you. I have recently found two sources of Josephine (Zozephine) maiden name. One was spelled Jaif the other Jeff. Also found a reference to Belfort, France. None of this has been confirmed so all are marked with a ?.

Thomas Mousty and Josephine (Thomas Musty/Josephene Seymor) married 6/23/1858 Harrison Co. so I think Charles A. Mousty (born abt. 1861) is their son. I know Charles is missing from the family on the 1870 census. But as you know there are so many mistakes made taking the census.

Since Thomas Mousty was 54 when he married Josephine it is a good guess he was probably married before. Since Thomas and his family arrived in New Orleans it wasn't the healthiest place to be in the summer time back then.

Have you got anything on Thomas and Josephine"s daughter Emma? I can't find a thing on her. She may have died young.

I did finally find Julius Simon's son Sherman (listed in 1900 census). It turns out his first name is really Firman and middle Martin (as per WWI registration). Firman married a Marie ??? abt 1917.

Got new software for Xmas so right now coping all information to that.
Hope I've helped you some.

I really appreciate the response and the offer. Although I have come along way with this line from several sources there are still some issues and discrepencies. For example I have found the immigration record for Thomas Mousty through New Orleans and based on the age it is probably the same one, however he was married to a Catherine Joanna when he arrived and had two children, Victoria and John Mousty. Do you know if this is the same Thomas Mousty? Another issue is Josephine (Zozefine) Simon’s maiden name. In one of the census reports she included in her household two nieces with the last name of Rigot (Bigot) and Vaughn. I am only assuming one of these nieces were from a brother which would provide a maiden name, and because the Rigot name was prominent in the Spencer Township I thought this might be it but I am not sure.

My line is through Felician (Felix) Simon and in the 1880 census he can be found as a boarder in Gregory, Conway, AR living with B. F. Cleveland. Next door is the home of B.F.’s son M. F. Cleveland and recorded is a boarder named Charles Mousty. Charles Mousty was born Oct 1860 in Spencer, Harrison, IN. He married Anna Homrighausen in Miami, KS in 1892. I’m sure there is a relationship between Charles and Felix but I can’t determine what it is. Have you come across this?

Lastly, if Rigot is in fact Josephine’s maiden name then through LDS you can find her father and mother in Silley, Dept Doubs, France. Somewhere along the way Etienne Simon had to have met her in France but I can’t find any reference to the same hometown in France. Do you have anything regarding that?

What line to Etienne and Zozefine are you from and perhaps we can exchange additional information regarding the children.
She remarried around 1857 to Thomas Mousty (misspelled several different ways, Mustee, Mustia) and they had children too. Let me know what you need. Will gladly share.

I am looking for help with the following family that immigrated from France to the area of Spencer, Harrison, Indiana area. If anyone is familiar with this line I would appreciate any assistance I can get.

Etiem Celestian Simon b. 1819 in France and d. between 1850 and 1860 in Indiana. He was married to Josephine (Zozofine) Rigot b. 1825 in France. Her parents were John Rigot b. Sep 1797 in Silley, Dept.doubs, France and he died in 1865 in Spencer, IN. His wife was Marie Josette Coquari b. 1799 in France and d. 1842 in Silley, Dept. doubs, France. Marie Josette parents were Vincent Coquari and Marie Claude Atonne.

This early in my research in this line some of my information may be way off, but if anyone is familiar with this line I'd like to hear from you.

Their father's name was François and their mother's name was Anne Marie Mosser. Joseph François' mother's name was Madaline. I don't have the names of any of her other childeren besides Joseph François. All of them were from Alsace-Lorraine. I don't have any specific town name or village. I wish I knew. I, myself and my immediate line of Reys settled in the US—ever since my great-grandfather August Rey. Good luck on your search. Cheers.

My family are connected to this line through my Uncle by marriage and my Mother's sister.
However, William Aubertin (wife Eleanor) is also connected by my Maternal Grandmother's sister marrying into the Aubertins. So my Uncle was also my cousin - a bit complicated. You are welcome to email me directly if this is allowed at anda@minouche'freeserve.co.uk as I live in the Southampton area.
Keep in touch
Ann
