Les noms de famille dans l'ancien pays de Montbéliard

I am researching the prenom Mignerey. In the book
Les noms de famille dans l'ancien pays de Montbéliard, there are Mignerey's listed in le ville Belverne as late as 1750.
I am looking for the birthplace of Catharine Mignery, born
December 1834, her parents were John G. & Mary Mignery.
They immigrated to Ohio around 1849-50. Any information
on this surname would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Yvonne Dishon

Just curious... did your Mignerey family move to Stark County, Ohio, or Highland County, Ohio (or another county)?

Hello,
My Mignereys settled in Highland County. There also a few in Williams and Scioto Counties.

After I used the website
http://www.servancnaute.fr/actes/
to track the Euverard/Euvrard/Oevrard family around Etobon, I noticed someone had a public tree on Ancestry (and maybe Rootsweb) which followed the Mignerey family back even farther to their roots in Montbeliard in the mid-1500's. I emailed one of the people who had used that data and he didn't know where he had gotten it. The Mignerey family in Etobon married into the Euverard family several times.

One of the wives came to America in 1832 to settle around Mowrystown in Highland County (Elizabeth Mignerey B: 24 Nov 1789, D: abt 1876)

I added that older data into my tree. (I'm not THAT picky about accuracy yet... someday I will be.) You can see the latest incarnation at
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db...

Maybe it'll help, maybe not.

Just doing a quick lookup on Ancestry showed a possible Catharine Mignerey and family arriving in NY on 13 Apr 1850 aboard the Adelaide Metcalf.

Quite a few Mignerey's were on the ship - not all of them listed together. And the ones listed with Catharine didn't appear to all be from the same family.

It "appears" the father was Jean Georges age 53, mother Marie Goux about the same age. Brother Jacques age 21, brother Charles age 9 -- then it gets iffy.

Complicating all of this is the tendency for the people in this area to give all their kids the same names. The ages are often approximate too.

I'm sure since the date of your first post in 2001, you've gotten much farther than this. There are severral people who have traced most, if not all, of the Mignerey family in France/Württemberg.

Hello,
This would be the correct family. I would be interested in the ship's name and the 'other Mignereys' as I have had little luck assembling the rest of the Mignerey's in the Mowrystown area to see how all are related.
Thanks for the information!
Yvonne

Hi Marti,

I responded about this name last summer in another thread. Here are two websites which might help you.

http://www.servancnaute.fr/actes/index.php

http://doubsgenealogie.fr/genealogie/actes/index.php

Type the name into the space below "recherche direct" and click on "chercher." You can then click on each name to learn more. If you find a name that interests you, I might be able to help more. I documented all of the information for the town of Etobon, where there were some persons with this name. Let me know also if you need some help with translations.
