Hi I have posted this on the cemeteries board also. I am looking for confirmation that my g g grandad David Davies was buried at Cette. He died on board the Rambler ship December 1883 buried January 1884 together with Thomas Jones and John Davies. They had lit a fire in a bucket to keep warm and were overcome by the fumes. It had sailed from Liverpool and taken refuge in the storms at Cette. We have got a wonderful poem written in Welsh about their death courtesy of a member of Rootschat. They were from Aberarth and Aberaeron West Wales. Unfortunately I do not speak or read French (I wish I could)so really would appreciate help in finding David in the church records in Cette, I am not sure if there would be a headstone.
Many thanks

Hello,
Here is your gg grandfather's death certificate: Go to :

Herault ( departement) online archives
http://archives.herault.fr/archives-en-ligne-328.html

The following is for the city of Sete ( Cette is old spelling

http://archives.herault.fr/sete~328.html
On right, you will see a list :Go to page 2 and down to where it is listed " Décès 1874-1874) click on the eye on far right. When the visualiser comes on, go to page 4, acte number 11 is your gg grandfather's death certificate. It takes a few moments to clear and you can print it out.

1884 and the third of january at ten o'clock in the morning, death acte od David DAVIES, seaman on the English Rambler who died the 31st of december on bord.Certified by the docteur designated by the police. Aged 42 years, born in Aberayon (England) English subject. No other information.
Follows the witnesses who signed for the acte.
It does not say if he was buried there or not.
So , on the following link, you havea yahoo group for genealogy in that area. You could join the group and try to find help. I am sure there would be someone on the group who speaks English.

Hi I tried the link for the Yahoo group but unfortunately didn't get very far as I'm afraid I do not understand French at all, which is a shame.
I will be visiting my father tomorrow and I am sure he will be delighted with the death certificate together with your translation.
Thank you very much
Wendy
