I'm researching my ancestor, Yves Bellange. I've discovered that there is a town in Lorraine called Bellange. Does anyone have info about the history of this town and how it obtained its name? Thank you.

Your Yves Bellange is probably related to Jacques Bellange - a very famous artist. There is quite a bit written about him and his expertise. Anyway, many times towns were named after a family that lived there....sometimes the other way around. Bellange is in Moselle, Department of Rohrbach and it is usually referred to as Department 57. My family is from that same area in Moselle and they were glassmakers. I saw one reference to Jacques Bellange making porcelain. I'd post the link however, I don't know if I can from this message - so...just google Bellange, Moselle and I think you'll find what you are looking for.

Thanks for responding. yes, I've seen tons of info about Jacques Bellange, also a Hippolyte Bellange who came later on. My Yves Bellange is supposed to have come from Poitou, but so far I've not seen any documentation about that. Thanks for your suggestions.

I tried searching for Yves Bellange in Poitou on Geneanet, and got one result. The poster included his sources, so this may give you some good leads. To get started, you would go to www.geneanet.org and enter the surname and location. You can also subscribe to receive weekly updates.
