Apparently my family came from the Blois Region in France. We know that Isaac Gerrard and family came from La Ville de Blois, D'Orleans, France and were Huguenots who fled to England in 1685. I have been trying to trace the family in France but have had no luck.

Placé, Mayenne, Pays de la Loire, France CASS Surname

Seem to have a mystery here re a William Cass br 1815 and son James Michael Cass br 1838 both br England lived in Buffalo New York. Both were Master Mason, Stonecutters.

from The History of St. Paul’s Church, Buffalo NY 1817 to 1888 by Charles W. Evans.
“The cutting and laying of the stone is in charge of Mr. William S. Cass. Mr. Cass has had great experience
in English Cathedrals and Churches, superintending in 1835 the rehanging of Big Tom, of Lincoln; and he has built Gothic stone Churches at Haynton and at Easton,
in Lincolnshire.” The name CASS is inscribed in the stone spire of the addition. William S. is listed in the Buffalo City Directory from 1865 through 1876. The directory also has a listing for a firm William S. Cass & Co. in 1871 and a
listing for Cass & Sons in 1873. William S. is listed for the last time as Sexton at St. Paul’s Church in 1876.

For some reason when I go looking for their death dates which would be around the late 1870s I cannot find them... Neither one is buried with their wives in Buffalo New York cemetery...

There is a letter written by one of Wm's daughters that says about James Michael Cass... no mention of her fathers death tho

The letter closes, “ poor Jim dying away from all of us but
thank God he did not realize it was death.”

I was on Ancestry and found someone who is doing Wm Cass and has him dying in the following place

Placé, Mayenne, Pays de la Loire, France

Have sent a message to them asking how they knew this

Is there somewhere on line that might list the cemeterys there in Mayenne Pays de la Loire France that would have those buried there named?

This is the 2nd time I have encountered Placé, Mayenne, Pays de la Loire, France in relation to this Cass family.... Why?

Thank you for any help anyone can give me

Sharon swtx

The last address are have for him is 82 Avenue de St Ouen Paris 18. or Blevy Par Chateauneuf en Thymerais, Eure et Loire.
Eugenie married Isidore T.M. Orieux. She later immigrated to Canada with husband and three children. Probably around the year 1899 or more ?
They eventually obtained a" Home-Stead" from the government of Sask. Canada.
This land was situated in the North ,West part of the province. It is now called
Pascal Sask. This is where they lived for the rest of their life.

Apparently a relation of mine from Baranowo, Ostroleka, Poland, immigrated to this area of France after the 1831 revolt by the Polish against the Russian ruling that area. He was in the military and therefore likely to be 'punished' for his activities. It appears that a cousin also went in exile to that area. I suspect that there were many additional Polish militia ending up in that area. If anyone is related to Marcin Galkowski, or any other memebers of the militia who went in exile in Baranowo area, there are a good number of researchers who would love to hear from you

She left france around 1919 after marrying my ggrandfather James Means who was an American soldier. I'm trying to find information on my French ancestors. Andree had a sister who married Mr. Dassieu whom I believe was a General in the French Military. Please contact me if you have seen Andree in your research. Thanks, Jim

Robert,

Obviously, I haven't followed this thread for a while. I was very interested in the information you mention about Louis Isabey and Elizabeth Bixler. These are my gg-grandparents. Yours is the first info I have seen having Elizabeth coming from France. I would love to have the reference for that. The information that we have was obtained at the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne. Is that where you found your data? I would love to share what we have with you. Some we got from the Rondot collection. Did you know that Louis had an affair and that he and Elizabeth were divorced? He is buried in Lindenwood Cemetery. We are not sure where she is buried. Please contact me if you have any other information.

Lucy
Frouin family-- from Maine-et-Loire (pre-1872), not Charente?

I am looking for the birth dates and places and parents' names of Rene Frouin (b. ca. 1839-1840) and Thais Ernestine Dutilloy (b. ca. 1838-1841), parents of Georges Rene (1872-1948), Jeanne Marie (1873-?), and Marie Madeleine (1875-1963) Frouin. The three children were all born in Aigrefeuille, in Charente Inferieure, but I can find no record of either parent's birth or their marriage in that region. However, according to a margin note on his birth record, Georges married Marie Julie Frouin, in 1903 in Coron, Maine-et-Loire. Since her last name is the same, I now wonder if perhaps she were a cousin and if the family originally came from that area. Thanks in advance.

I am searching for relatives of Charles Andouard and his wife Adele B. (Hate, Haite) Andouard, born around the 1870's, probably near Romarantin. My name is Jim Williams, my great grandmother was Andree Andouard b. 1893 in France. She came to America with my great grandfather James Means at the conclusion of WW I. I'm attempting to acquire additional information about my French ancestory.

I realize there's very little here to go on, but maybe someone will be able to assist me in this matter. Regards, Jim
