Hi, I am looking for information on my g-g-g-grandfather
Charles Cronier b 1-15-1805 in Marseilles, France. I have recently learned that the name Cronier appears in Marseilles in Beauvaisis which is in Picardie; not in Marseilles in Southern France. As was then the custom, his father apprenticed him as a seaman in the French Navy, and in 1818 the youth shipped as a cabin boy on a frigate bound for New York. He deserted in New York in 1819 and signed aboard an American vessel bound for Charleston.
I have most of his information once he reached the USA, but I am looking for information on his family.
The spelling of the name varies from Cronnier, Cronier, Cronia and finally it ended up being Cronea.
Anybody out there know anything about him or his family?
Thank you

Hi, Karen John. Yes, I know somethings. He is my g-g grandfather. Sounds like you may have most of what I have, but it would be nice to chat and check those things out. My g- grandfather was Henry Sullivan, he married Mary Louise Cronea, the seventh child by the second union to Cronea

Hi
I am a descendent of Cronea through the Sullivans and Rivieres. We are confused about who Henry Sullivan married. Some accounts report she was Louisa Cronea, but the birth certificate of her oldest son shows her to be Louisa Hebert. Another account reports that Sullivan married the granddaughter of Cronea, Annie's daughter. Anyone able to clear this up??
Thanks
Steve Andres

My understanding is that Mary Louise Cronea b 11-13-1867 d 8-10-1910 was his 1st wife, m about 1893 and had 9 or 10 children; then he married Louise Stone and had 1 child; then he married Dora Davis b 11-22-1887 d 3-3-1968 who already had a daughter and together they had 2 sons, the oldest born in 1923. I have not ever heard of him being married to a Hebert and that is not even close to Cronea or Stone; I'm not sure where that came from.

I am assuming your are talking of the Sullivan who married Louise Cronea. They only had two children before she died. One was my grandfather and the other was Frank Sullivan. There were 17 children all together. (Sullivan) adopted Dora's daughter. I used to go to his house on Easter in High Island and I remember sitting on his lap and listening to him talk of the old days.

I was looking for information on Charles Cronea. I know he shipped here from Marsailles, France. I do not know of any information on his parents or grandparents.

The information I have came from various sources, one being information I found on the internet from the granddaughter of a granddaughter of Henry and Louise.

I have searched for information on Charles Cronea's parents and siblings and have not been able to find anything. If you do come across ANY information, please post it.

You have Louise Cronea marrying Henry Sullivan, but the birth certificate of Frank Sullivan shows Louise Hebert. How is this reconciled?
Also we have a book stating that Henry Sullivan married the granddaughter. the author claims that Cronea told her this himself.

Steve, I know by the name we are cousins. Betty Jean has a lot of info. I got my info from two secondary sources and one primary source. Uncle Frank himself. If Uncle Frank's mom was an Hebert he told us wrong.

I had mis stated that there were only two children from the first marriage of Henry and Louise. There were actually thirteen(13) when I got my book down this morning and looked at it. Forgive me for the mis statement.

I don't know where the Hebert comes in. I do not have that on my records.

The most historic records I have show Henry L. Sullivan, father of Henry Sullivan, marrying in 1848 in LA, dying in 1870, married to SARA. There were two children from this union: Henry and Tom.

Then I have Henry Sullivan married three times: 1.) Louise Cronea - 13 children, Uncle Frank, Minnie, John, Kate, Henry, Willie(my grandfather), Louis, Barney, Tom, George, Sidney, Middleton, Fannie: Then wife # 2) Arizona Anderson: Mom says she just had Bruce, but my written records show on that page three names with a space which might indicate that the last two(Maco and Lake) were by the third wife.

Then there is the third wife. Dora Davis Nelson = I had always been led to believe that Dora and Grandpa never had children and that Addie Mae Nelson was her child by a previous marriage and Grandpa raised her??? Mom says Dora is Maco's and Lake's Mom. Then, that would make Bruce the only child from Arizona and Grandpa. I am surprised that you have a birth certificate on Uncle Frank. Was this Frank born Nov. 6, 1883 and married to Ollie Brown and had a child named Janie Lou? Is this the Frank Sullivan that married Ollie Brown?

I have not worked on any of this for about 30 years so the records I have are older. We came back from Alaska to take care of Mom and I am finding a bit more time to delve into things of interest. Any info you have and are willing to share, would be most appreciated.

Karen, How are you connected to this story? My grandfather was the sixth child and fourth son of Henry Sullivan and Louise Cronea. Just curious your lineage...
