Thanks, Bob. I was actually replying to DFantana. I believe she (he) is on the same line as I am. The Simon mentioned is probably the brother to my gg grandfather, David Daniel Demaray.

I have access through my library to the entire contents of the Voohries Demarest book. The book is downloadable as a PDF file so I have it on my hard drive. I have considerable additional information on my line obtained from a Canadian 'cousin' about 10 years ago, so I'm pretty clear on my connection to David/Marie Sohier. Unfortunately, the Canadian cousins do not seem very communicative with their US counterparts. Thought DFantana and I could exchange info.
Thanks,
Carole Medeiros

Sorry about that Carole, it crossed right over where I was talking to her about a similar line of discussion. I believe she has just got started on her line tracking.

You're probably much closer in her line...2-3 gens vice the 7-9 where the Demarays and Demarests started moving up to the North.

Hi Carol,
Simon was Edwin's dad . Edwin was married to Catherine Monroe.Their daughter Ethel was my grandma. She was married to William Hall, their son Elmer was my dad.
Samuel and Grietji Martin Demaray were David Demaray's parents.
I got a respose to my question about Samuel on July 21.
It told about Samuel -service New York
rank private
Capt Henrick Vanderhoof
14th Regt
Residence Schaghticoke Dist, Albany,New York.
I've already started in check this DAR out in my area.
Your right you need proof. birth or death certificates, pictures of tombstones.
DAR have so many meeting a year, step one for me I need to write a 4-5 lines about myself and they take it up before the members and they vote on you. You have a year to do your research. It cost $135 at first, she broke it all down on how much every thing cost, I just can't remember it now, I think $75 for membership, then it's $50 a year.
It's a challengence for me.
I have 7 girls and 3 grandaughters and I hope it could help them and open doors for other Demarays.
There were 6 girls in my grandma's family and only one boy. He never married. From my grandma and her sisters there are a lot females that have been born into the Demaray Family.
I guess that's all for now.

Cool, Deborah. You and I are 4th cousins. Your gg grandfather, Simon, was the brother of my gg grandfather, David Daniel. Your great-grandfather, Edwin Demaray, was 1st cousin to my great-grandmother, Margaret Maria Demaray. My line from David Demaray and Jane Marsh is David Daniel who married Louise Snively, their daughter, Margaret Maria married Robert James Malpass (their daughter Leota Irene is still living, age 93), their son, George Malpass, was my grandfather and Peggy Malpass Blinn was my mother.

David Demaray and Jane Marsh had 11 children so we must have a lot of cousins out there somewhere! Good luck with your DAR application. My problem in connecting to Samuel is proving the birth date of David Daniel and that he is a son of David and Jane Marsh Demaray. I received the info in an email from a Canadian internet connection, which is not sufficient proof for the DAR. Let me know if you find some good info when you get back to that generation.

Hi Everyone:
I found this message board through DFantana who has been sharing information with me. I am one of the 'Canadian' Demaray descendants and I will share information with you.
David Demaray and Jane Marsh are my 4 greats grandparents. Jane Marsh was the daughter of Rev. William Marsh and Elizabeth Huntington.
Mary Demaray, daughter of David Demaray and Jane Marsh, married Henry Groat and that is my line.
I look forward to hearing from cousins.

Dear Carol,
It has been awhile since I wrote you.
I have been able to get a lot of information I need for Daughters American Revolution.
Last month I got with this lady from the DAR. I pretty much have most of what I need.
I still haven't found proof of David and Jane Demaray's marriage. They were married in 1803 in Sutton Twp, Brome County, Quebec, Canada.
This one relative of our's from Calif has sent me things. She is from the line of Richard, David's brother.
There is a book DeMarest Family Vol I, that has information. David and Jane's children are listed in it.
Some one sent me a picture of Jane Demaray's tombstone.
My e-mail is dkfantana@yahoo.com.

Hi, Deborah,
Glad to hear you're making progress. Let me know if you find anything on that marriage record. I've got 4 or 5 different lines that I could get DAR membership on but have a missing proof on every one of them. Very frustrating.

Sure wish the Canadian cousins would be more helpful. They're likely to be the ones with the family Bible records, etc.

Happy hunting!
Carole

Hi Carol,
I thought I would go back and check up on the message board.
I was accepted into the DAR in April. The DAR will accept this book DeMarest Family Vol I.
Some one had sent me a picture of Jane Demary's grave stone.
I was never able to fine proof of David and Jane's marriage or their births.
I tried writing to that area of Quebec, Canada and from what they said that area had just been settle not to long before that time and it would be hard to fine records from back then. They made it sound like traveling preachers kept the records with them .

Congratulations, Deborah, and thanks for the info. I'll have to get my DAR application out of mothballs and apply under Samuel. I believe I have sufficient proofs from David, son of David/Jane, to me.

Thanks so much for the post.

Carole
