I have found that a number of my ancestors died in this small French village and I'm trying to find out more information about it aside from what's in Wikipedia. Why did so many end up there? The span goes from the 1100s-1800s and there are many surnames.

I am noticing the same thing and I have to believe this is erroneous . . . but how did it get there? Also, I have come across quite a few ridiculous locations, e.g. place of death in 1254 listed as Delaware or Florida! Clearly in error, so I just remove those words and then have to leave the place of death blank. Or sometimes the place of death (all in Europe) will be listed with the erroneous information afterwards, e.g. Calais, Delaware, USA so I drop off the Delaware, USA part. Any ideas?

Yes, I've seen such errors as 1254, Florida!!!! In this case, however, looking at the map, Y is close to the French
coast and high born Welch and English people went back and forth to France frequently. I'm wondering if it was what we would call a resort, or if it was a second home to many with French blood, as many of my ancestors had. Just a theory... Thanks for your input. Let's keep it going if either of us learns something!

I'm still working on my family tree and still finding ancestors who have died in Y, France. It is a real place, it is now a small village in the providence of Picardie, just near the northern coast of France. Last census only showed about 89 inhabitants at this time.

There has to be some sort of link....

Same problem. It might help to know if we all happen to be researching the same ancestors in which case the result just might be anomalous. But if we are all have different ancestors than something more general is probably going on. Here is my list of surnames buried in Y: DeBeresby, Parre, Biset and DeCany.

I'm having this issue as well. My surname attached to the area is: Mueller and Rupper or Rupp. I haven't tracked back married children from those two lines to find out if they also died there, but I have found a good many of their children did. Very strange to find we're all having this issue. Mine's not even telling me a date when they died, just that it was there.

Hi, I've found that around 20 of my ancestors ranging from 1100 to about 1850 died in Y, Somme, Picardie. I know that it was held as a fief by the English, from around the mid 1200s to the mid 1300s, which may explain why so many English went there.
