Jules M Chretien

My Grandfather, Charles Jules Chretien, was born in Algiers. His father I believe was Jules M Chretien who was in the French Army and his wife, one Charlotte Lofty met him while Jules was stationed in Algiers. If anyone could give me any information or advice to help me find information related to any of the above it would be much appreciated.

Pour avoir tout document administratif (Acte de naissance Original,Acte de décés etc..) vous devez ecrire A Mr Le Maire de la Commune d 'Alger Centre 16000 Alger Algerie.
PS:Fournir l'identification avec la date de naissance.
Pour la traçabilité de votre parent qui habitait la Rue d'ISLY je peux vous aider à condition d'avoir le N° de l'Immeuble.Cette rue a été rebaptisée avec l'identifiant suivant : Rue Larbi Ben M'Hidi Alger Centre .

Merci de vote demande, mon Grand Père le Rabin Martin SEROR, a à ma connnaissance toujours vécu à ALGER dans le quartier de Belcourt, la rue de son domicile ex rue des petits champs est devenue la Rue du Rabin Martin Seror, dans laquelle était situé la synagogue.Mes oncles et Tantes y sont nés.
J'y ai moi même vécu jusqu'à l'age de 14 ans.
Il est probable que nous ayons quelque part dans le temps,des origines communes.Bien Cordialement JP SEROR

I am a Dello Iacono descendent from Boston. My Great-grandfather was Giuseppi, who came from the Naples area around 1910. He married Clementina Censali in Boston, and had 4 children: Pelligrino (William) 1915, Clementina Marie (legally changed it to Marie later in life) 2/1917, ??Melka?? (died in early 20's of leukemia), and Joseph, much younger, who became a Fransiscan Father and took the name Cletus. My grandmother is Marie (Clementina), who married Anthony Arena (North End of Boston), and they lived in Charlestown and the West End of Boston (now bulldozed for Mass General Hospital) before settling in W Medford, MA (both the DI and Arena family). Marie is the only child that had children, and she was my grandmother. There was a cousin William (Bill Dello) in NJ who died about 10 years ago or so. Giuseppi died in the 50's, Clementina in 1979, Bill 1999 and Marie in 2002 (dates aren't exact, family historian is on vacation. Anything sound familiar?

C'est très amusant tout ça... Sait tu que j'ai été comédienne de théâtre pendant 10 ans, après le conservatoire, puis j'ai arrêté parce que la vie m'a fait une belle crasse et je n'avais plus le désir de jouer. Puis j'ai repris une autre avenue et je dirige un cabinet de recherche marketing aujourd'hui.

Super, j'aurai donc une bonne raison d'aller à Londres. J'adore voyager.

Pour les Aveillan, en France ils ne sont pas si nombreux, c'est vrai mais il y en a un petit paquet malgré ça...J'en ai rencontré quelques uns, qui n'avait pas apparemment de rapport direct, mais il faut que j'avance sur la branche du frère de mon AGP...J'ai aussi fait pas mal de recherche, il y a 5 ans, et je pense que je pourrais t'en apprendre sur le patronyme et l'Espagne. Si tu veux me transmettre ton mail, ce sera plus simple que de parler via ce site, ou je pense, que notre échange est au vu et au su de tous.

Bonjour, et merci pour ces infos. De mon côté mon père s'appelle Alphonse Aveillan, mon Grand Père Alphonso né à Tabia, département de Oran,en 1899. Mon arrière grand père se prénommait José Aveillan et était marié avec Francisca Sanchez. Je ne peux pas poursuivre ma recherche tant que je n'ai pas retrouvé le frère de mon grand père qui s'appelait Jean. Il aurait eu 2 enfants dont l'un s'appelait Alain ( d'après les mémoires encore vivantes)..Est ce que cela vous dit quelque chose?
J'ai 45 ans, et je suis née en France. Mes parents sont partis en 1962.

I am the descendant of a repatriated French family from Algeria between 1960 and 1962. My family had lived in Algeria for over 250 years (longer than many American families living in the US ). In France we were called pied-noir. The pieds-noirs was a sub culture well adapted into the Arabic and Jewish people of Algeria , Tunesia, and Maroco. The Jewish people of Algeria were given the French nationality in 1870 (décret Crémieux).

Upon Algeria 's independence from France in 1962, 900,000 people “returned” to France . Returned is the wrong word to use because most of them had never been to France before. This has been a cultural choc for these “repatriated” families. They loved to live in Algeria and did not care much to be in France . The grand majority of them were farmers, bleu collars, working-class people. It has nothing to do with colonialist as we imagine them, or as described by historians that have spent their life on school benches. Most historians put too much politics in their views and they bend the reality to fit their personal opinions.

Many of us settled in the south of France and many in Carnoux-en-Provence near Marseille. Even though I am not a true pied noir because I was born in France just after my family “returned” to France I lived the times when Pied noirs were not accepted by the French. I am a witness of this because during my youth I was treated badly as a pied noir in France . As a matter a fact I never cared much about France anyway which facilitated my migration to the USA . I am the descendant of people that wanted to build new things not to sit and wait. The peids noirs arrived in Algeria when nothing was there but marshes and deserts and left behind cities, manufactures, huge vineyard, farms, schools, railroads and so on…

I have been approached by the father of a French documentary maker Mr Gilles Perez (Les Pieds Noirs, Histoires d’une blessure : le film primé au Festival International du Film d’Histoire de Pessac http://www.lespiedsnoirs-lefilm.com/ ) who is looking for to get testimonies of pieds noirs or descendant living in the USA . I believe this would be a great documentary to broadcast on NPR. The goal would be to find pieds noirs and the descendant of pied noirs by passing ads on NPR and PTV. Then testimonials could be gathered about their life, differences between Algeria , France and USA and so on... Testimonials said by the people that lived it is the most important to archive. Please note that the pied noirs demography is getting smaller as time goes. Our parents are getting really old.

I am in West Aus, in Kalgoorlie to be exact & have been trying to do the tree for the past six months. I have no information on my Grans side (Le Gallou) can't seem to get any info. I am currently in Wales and have been to Jersey to chase up our relatives (Le Gallou). I came here especially to do that. Your Grandma is Renee LeGallou (anty Ren,my Grandmas older sister. I live in South Australia. I have been trying to follow up your family in Aussie but to no avail. Your fathers oldest sister Doreen just died two weeks ago in Jersey while i was there. Your dad is harry (dec) and your mother dawn (dec) Do you have 2 sisters and abrother. I have lots of info. I am also looking for Le Gallou my grandmother Rene Augustine. Like you, I also live in Australia, Western Australia. My gran married Harry Dencombe Weeks in Jersey in about late 1920's early 1930. My father Harry was born in Jersey in 1935, then emigrated to Australia in 1967. WOuld like to exchange emails, so we can chat.

Iam a Le Gallou. Born South Wles UK. Currently living in Australia, My father George Wilson (b 1930 in Jersey) was child of Eugenie Le Gallou a single parent.
I am following up my family (Jersey/France and UK). Great Grandfather Pierre Le gallou from Pommerit France married May Guernsey. Le gallou Children Pierre, Renee, John, Marie Antoinette, Eugenie, Simone Marie, Joe. All deceased. Obviously I am trying to find more about my Grandfather. He could have been a George Wilson or even Albert Boden whom my Grandmother married when my father was 7 years, Alberts father was a George Boden.

Martin Seror était mon arrière-arrière grand-père, et comme toi je n'ai jamais connu son fils, donc mon arrière grand père. En revanche tu connais peut-etre son petit-fils (mon grand père) Jean-Paul Seror... ca ne t'aide pas beaucoup dans ta recherche mais j'espere que cela t'eclaire un petit peu. Par contre, je crois que la rue Martin seror n'existe plus a Algers, dommage pour moi !
