Tony...
My famly name was "Baudouin", Most of the family lived in or around La Rochelle for many years. One family member was Nicholas Baudouin of Beloeil, Judge Provost and lord of the town, suberb & Castlenny of Rochelle in 1571: anouther family member was mayor in 1602 ; still another family member was Mathurin Baudouin of l'ouaille & of Brochadiere, and was presidential advisor of Rochelle in about 1550 or so. This family was an important family and they were all Huguenots.

It was Pierre C. Baudouin who was a Doctor & his wife & 4 children who fled in the dark of night leaving his home and practice to board his ship with a crew slipped out of the harbor, escaping La Rochelle in 1685. They landed first in Ireland and they to the British colonies that becane America in 1686. Pierre had given up his Royal heritage and suffered untold other losses all because of religion. They all managed to save their lives. Many of those who stayed in Europe married other Royals. The Baudouin line genealogy includes many kings & Queens both past and present.

Now Tony...Please use my E-mail if you want to know more. Are you a writer? Have you found any LaRochelle Records? The records of the family were saved by the early family members and left in the Archives of Bowdoin collage in America. This schooll was named for the Baudouin/Bowdoin family who gave
much much support to it.

I have done a genealogy and much research on my family so I still know much about it.

Others of this family scattered but stayed in Europe. They sought refuge in Prussa, the low lands, & England some living in London

Surnames: Beyea, Bie, Bies, Biet
Hi -
I am in Eastern Canada, last name is Beyea
I have been told that about around the revocation of the Edict of Nantes, an ancestor was burned as a heretic in La rochelle, and his wife and son escaped to England, then North America (with the possiblity of Holland before England). It is suspected that "Beyea" is a phonetic transcription of the original French surname, which could have been Bie, Bies or Biay.

The story is that the widow re-married in England, and son, mother and step-father sailed for America.

Apparently, G.S. film 199954 of the Card Index of Walloon members of La rochelle, Charente-Maritime, France, Ca 1602-1681 has these records -

Inhume a La rochelle au cimitiere des Reformes a la Ville neuve-
- Jan 17, 1664 Jean Bie, fils de Jean Bie profession mar. d. age 9 days
- Sept 22, 1664 Susanne Bie, file de Jean Bie profession mar d age 2 years
- Oct 13, 1670 (?) Susanne Biay, fille de Jean biay d age 16 months.
- Feb 25, 1673 Jean Bie, fils de Jean Bie d age 8 years
- Jan 26, 1682 Jean Bies d age 49 years

Baptise au temple de La rochelle de la Ville neuve
- Jun 19, 1674 Jean, son of Jean Bie and Marie Grasset

Does anyone have any information around this, or any of the Huguenots?
Please email me at chuckbeyea@hotmail.com

Thanks

Chuck

All:
I am researching my and my husband's family trees. He is a direct decendant of the Dr Pierre Bowdoin you speak of. There is a very good book on the Bowdoins of the United States published in 1982 by U. Bowdoin Marsh. I would be very interested in any historical information you might have regarding the family from the 1400's back.
My family's name is Tull which originally I am told the family came from France (Tulle). The family crest had 3 gold bees in it. Later a branch imigrated to Ireland (name took the form of Tully) in the 1400-1500's and came to the US in the 1700's where the name returned to Tull. There are many Tulls in England,Australia, & US.
Any information that anyone could share about the origins of either family would be greatly appreciated. The work I have done can be seen on the public Bowdoin-Tull Family Tree.
Thanks
Carol Tull Bowdoin

A excellent resource is the History of the Hugenots by Charles Washington Baird. You can google for it and read most of it and download parts you need. Hope this helps
