Am interested in this group as I was told that they originally came to the area from Denmark. My forebear, John Brotherson, born Copenhagen, son of Peter and Maria Brotherson came to Australia in 1854.
I was told Raiatea group had connections with mine but would like to exchange information to verify this.

I have heard the name Hunter from some of the old timers.....I am a decendent of Brodersen - shortened to Brothers - of Raiatea Island. I will try to place Hunter. There were more than one family with the name Brodersen (Brotherson).

My great-grandfather, Capt. Samuel Earkin Brothers (originally Brodersen) (1825 - 1915) came from Denmark. His father's name was Peter (Peder) also of Denmark. Our records beyond that are pretty sketchy.

It would be great, if we found a match here!

Not sure what information you are after. My great grandmother on my grandmother's side was Muriel Miriama Hunter. She Married Henry Horley. Their daughter, Laiza was my grandmother who married Christian Brotherson. This was all in Raiatea, French Polynesia. I believe Thomas Hunter was originally from Sydney, Australia. (brother to Muriel). He died in Uturoa, Raiatea - 15 June 1909. Don't know if any of that helps.

My g-g-g-grandfather is JOHN HUNTER married to SUSANNAH CHAPMAN. My g-grandfather was born in Tahiti and his father, Alexander, was one of 11 children of John and Sussanah. As far as I can tell all but my g-grandfather lived, married and died in Polynesia.

I would be interested in finding out more about this large family and exchanging information.

My g-g-grandfather, Alexander, is Muriel Miriama's brother. I think Alexander was born in Sydney. His son Alexander Edgar, was born in Papeete 1871. I have just found this large family of Hunters and would like contact. The son, Alexander Edgar, grew up in Proserpine, Queensland. We have always know the story of his birth but not much else.
