Hi, my name is Sandy and I believe that I may have information re: Theodule Alexander Richard and Marie Prevost.
They are my great grandparents on my fathers side. The history which you have provided is quite similar to the history that I have in my family tree.
My great grandfather emigrated from Savoie, France and married Marie Prevost from Argentina. They had one son Ernest, born in Esperanza, Argentina. They then moved to Peru where they had Nestor in 1903, Odile in 1905, Blanche in 1907, Chester in 1908, and George in 1910. They then moved from Peru to California and then moved to Canada.
Nestor was my grandfather.
If you would like more information regarding this family tree please contact me at sandi45_208@hotmail.com

I saw your query for info. on the Rochier family. My husband's grandmother grew up in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Her name was Mary Vonceil Rochier. She came from a large family of siblings and half siblings who all had the name Rochier. her grandfather was French and I believe the first one to settle in Arkansas in the mid-1800's. I was talking with my mother-in-law (her daughter) recently about the Rochier history, and she said that some of those siblings ended up in Oklahoma. There is actually a Rochier street in Fayetteville named after the grandfather. The cross street is Paris. We went there recently and took a picture. I haven't been able to find out any more info. I would be interested in any that you have.

Thanks,
Robin

Her father was Bartlelemy VERZIEUX (1845-1928), and her mother a DUCARRE. Her sister Madeleine married Michel GAUTIER. One son, Antonin GAUTIER was killed in 1918 with the French Air Force.

I have a photo of Alexandre Verzieux, who may have been a cousin, as Barthelemy had a brother Louis who was probably much younger, this may be Louis's son.

Hi Beverly,
We may assume that Joseph and his father returned to France at the end of the American Revolution in 1783. I seem to remember that The History of Brown County recounted that Joseph angered a priest and fled to join LeClerc's army that was stationed in Santo Domingo during the Haitian Revolution. That would probably have been circa 1793 to the time that he showed up in New York City in 1799. (LeClerc wasn't sent until 1800, which was after Joseph's appearance in New York.) So, he may have returned to France for a few years.

As for the JOHNS family, I haven't found any firm leads. Email me at kwassmcintyre@yahoo.com and I will send my notes.

Thanks,
Kathleen Wass McIntyre

The godfather signed.

Arnaud

Priest BROQUIER

We know from "Les Combatants Francaus de la Guerre Americaine 1778-1783" by Du Ministere des Affaires Etrangeres, Baltimore, Genealogical Publishing Co., 1969, that Joseph and his father Pierre Francois Ginouves (b. ca 1745) were born in Toulon. We do not have any information past that.
One of the French researchers emailed Toulon online archives to us, and some Var records are online. We may find more with diligence.

I hope that we will one day compile the history of the family Ginouves.
FYI, I was able to get in touch with a distant cousin in France, who gave me lots of information on our Ginouves line. I have information back to a Jean Antoine Ginouves who died before 1693. His decendants were in Lavalette-du-Var, Var, in the 1600's where the line stayed until the early 1800's. They then show up in Nevers. I don't know if that is any help, but if you can tie into my line at all, I have a bit of info. on the LDS site, familysearch.org.

I am thinking probably not..........
BUT! I deeply apreciate the French area place! It gives me another place to look. We have drawn a blank so for---but this is new!

Joseph (Americanized to) Genoways was here by 1780 -- we think probably he was here slightly before that. There are a group of (Anglecized) Genoways in Candada that you might contact.

ONE of the many early-stories was that there were two Ginouves brothers who came but one went to Canada. So far we have not been able to prove -- or disprove -- that.

Well, this is interesting. I thought my husband's line was the only Ginouves line in the U.S. We have an Octave Ginouves who immigrated from Never(?) France in 1890. I haven't found a Joseph Ginouves, but I wonder if they are related in some way.

Can someone tell me where to find parish records for Solaize, Rhône, France? I would like to have a copy of the marriage record for Claude Gagniard and Benoite Dumond, married 20 June 1778. The Family History Library in Salt Lake City seems not to have any records for this commune.

I understand Benoite Dumond was born 28 March 1754 in Solaize (proof?). Claude Gagniard may have been born in Saint-Martin-du-Mont or Solaize.

My fourth-great-grandmother Gabrielle Henriette Gagniard, daughter of this couple, was born 21 October 1781 in Lyon.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Then he moved to Conneticut (where a couple more children were born) and then to Ohio, where he died in 1836 in Brown County.

Right NOW I am focused on figuring out something about Elizabeth Johns, his wife.

What have you discovered about her??

Looking For Victor Soboul, grandfather

Sobol, Sabol, and other variations, while not common by any means, are nevertheless found in most telephone white pages in the U.S. As far as I know no one else in the U.S. has the Soboul spelling. France is another story: there are at least 98 on one telephone listing I came across.
Victor Soboul, my grandfather, was born in France on 5 May 1851 and died at Cantrall, Illinois on 13 March 1925. Victor came to the U.S. in 1880. His wife, born in Switzerland, was Pauline Stadley (DeStadleaux?) The spelling of Pauline's surname is not clear as it is listed on different documents differently. She came to the U.S. in 1883. In any case Frank Laliron is connected to her as his Aunt lived in Paris and I have a letter from her dated in 1936. Frank came to the U.S. in 1883. I haven't been able to connect old with new: how they got here. I do know that their first child Rose Emma Soboul was born in Pennsylvania in 1886 (where??)
Victor had a brother Jacques Soboul who was living in the New York City area in 1925. He left Cantrall, I assume after Victor's death.

As for Arthur I have no information other than he worked with furs in Toronto with the hudson Bay company. I have not found out any info. Belle would have been born about 1889 or around there. i am not sure about Arthur. Please, if you can help me locate these two it would greatly appreciated!!!!

Thank you,
Moira

Would you be willing to send me the list?

Willem Ten Have was born in Amsterdam, and was a child prodigy on the violin. He studied with DeBeriot, and moved to France. He taught in Lyon, and married there. Later, they moved to Paris, where he died.
I did receive your message and will be sending those pieces of information along with the pictures I have in the next few days. In the week after the funeral I had too much work to catch up on and I had a wedding in Houston over the weekend so I've had a busy month. Did you get the previous message about the story Aunt Rose wrote about her family and parents? I will call my Uncle Elroy to see if he still has the original.

That's about it for now until I can get into my stuff at home to send you. Stay in touch. You can also get me at the email address dhaas @ sourcelinemedia.com. Disregard the spaces in the email address. Some boards won't let you post them.

Stay in touch.
Dave
