Norgeot surname

Hi there,
I am in search of information on the Norgeot surname. This is my fiances family. Family lore has it that Norgeot is translated as "from Norway" and that when his family immigrated to St. Pierre their name was changed to Norgeot because whoever was writing down their name couldn't accurately write their Norweigan name. I'm not sure if this is correct, or if Norgeot is the original surname. My understanding originally was that Norgeot was French, from France, but that has since changed. Any help would be wonderful. Please email me direct at kathysmi@hotmail.com

Thank you.
Kathy

Hi, I was just trying to find the history of the surname Brockerville for a student of mine who's doing a project on surnames. And I inadvertently came across your question and I found a site that possibly answers your question. Go to
http://rjhar0.100webspace.net/index.html and you'll find a database of surnames including histories for several families with the surnames Brockerville and Broqueville. Happy searching!

Searching for infromation of my g-grandmother Adele

My g-grandmother was born in 1874(73)as our records indicate St. Pierre et Miquelon. We have her last name as "De lambley" (lay), which I know is incorrect. It may be Lambily, Lambilly or Lebailly (lot of names got corrupted in immigration) She immigrated to the United State in 1894 and settled in Boston Massachusetts. First Marriage was to a Charles Edgerly of New Hampshire, second Married to Robert Joseph Slaney of Newfoundland. She had issue with both marriages. My mother remembers Adele,(who died in 1950 in Seattle Washington USA)and a few stories she told her - as she was born in France (that is true) and related to a count or nobilty - which is questionable. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Does anyone have any information about the Leforestier family in St. Pierre? My great-great grandmother Felicia was born there in 1894 and had a son (Michel Leforestier) out of wedlock with a man from St. Pierre named Michel Capdeville. I think Felicia's parents were Ernest Leforestier and Marie Roblot, but I don;t know who their parents were.

Also, my great-great grandfather William Byrne was born in St. Pierre in 1884. His father was Byrne (born in Scotland, England, Ireland or Massachusetts?) and his mother was Lambert (probably born in St. Pierre). Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi again,

Actually I worked it out, and my grandfather was the first cousin to William's father, Hyppolite Gaudet, which would make my mother, aunts and uncles, all your great-grandfather's second cousins. The age differences can all be explained by a series of remarriages, and oldest/youngest children involved. But in a nutshell, that's what it is. Will send you more via email when I hear from you. Thanks again, Dennis

Karen,

Thank you so much. William was born in the same town as my grandfather, and I believe they were second or third cousins. The reason I was asking is because I was following the entire family down to the present, and had followed William to Sydney, but lost him. I had pieced together that he married Leontine from his death record where she is reported as his wife. Thanks you for filling many holes in my own research, and yes, I would be interested in the Word document. In return I can provide you with a direct lineage back on his side to his ancestor, Jean Gaudet. My email address is upatree2@cox.net Again, my sincerest thanks, Dennis

Like you I'm concluding that there were 2 Cyrus Becks, and don't know why I didn't see it before. William Cyrus Beck (m. to Eliza Senior) could not be the one following, who is listed as a bachelor. Also the marriage date of 1900 would preclude it being William Cyrus as he and Eliza are still having children into the early 1900's.

9 Dec 1900 Gt St Lawrence, Burin - Cyrus Beck - 29 B; Fishing;Ch of Engld b. Great St Lawrence; m. Annie Pike 27 S Ch of Engld b. Great St Lawrence; Rev John Hewitt; witnesses - Albert Pike, Mary Beck. This is the Annie Pike who had a daughter, Violet and subsequently remarried Smith and had two children by him, as per the 1921 NL Census, at Cupids.

Sorry for the confusion I've created. (We still don't know which Cyrus died in 1912.)
Thank you very much for the information.

I had not heard that Eliza's first name was Hannah. I assume that Flat Island is a reference to Miquelon. I am sure that Eliza was French: that information came from her daughter Mabel.

Mabel's son named his daughter Priscilla Ann.

I have the children as:
Malazine (1891-1973)
William (1892)
Evelyn (1894)
Rachel (1895)
Ada May (1897)
Unknown Male
Unknown Male
Mabel Mary (1903-1999) My wifes grandmother
Eli Beck (1907-1983)

Thanks again,

Allen Morris

Would anyone have dates of birth, marriage or death for her? I know they had 6 children, a son and five daughters, one of whose obituaries I found at the Cape Breton Mailing list archive.

Hannah Eliza Senior was the wife of Cyrus William Beck. She was born in 1854 on Flat Islands, Placentia Bay. Cyrus died 15 December 1912, St. Lawrence, Newfoundland and one assumes that Eliza died there, too.

Of the nine children, one included Rachel Beck who married Edward Clarck. Cyrus also was married to Annie Pike and they had a daughter, Violet. Annie was also at one time married to a William Smith. I don't have the dates of what happened first.

Rachel Beck was born at St. Lawrence, Burin Peninsula, NFL in 1895. Edward Clarck was b. on Fr. island of St. Pierre in 1895. Both are buried in Lakeside Cem., N. Sydney, NS.

New York passenger list (1820 - 1957) shows:
Name:	Cyrus Beck
Arrival Date:	24 Aug 1933
Estimated birth year:	abt 1870
Age:	63
Port of Departure:	St John, Newfoundland
Ethnicity/Race/Nationality:	English
Ship Name:	Fort St George
Port of Arrival:	New York, New York
Nativity:	Newfoundland
Line:	1
Microfilm Serial:	T715
Microfilm Roll:	T715_5375
Birth Location:	Newfoundland
Birth Location Other:	St Lawrence
Page Number:	161
Wife - Hanna - born Flat Island - age 63

I take this 'Hannath to be Hannah Eliza Senior because of the following:

Border Crossings: From Canada to U.S., 1895-1956
Name:	Cyrus Wm Beck
Arrival Date:	May 1927
Age:	56
Birth Date:	abt 1871
Birthplace:	St Lawrence Nfld
Race/Nationality:	English
Port of Arrival:	Vanceboro, Maine, USA
Accompanied by:	Wife Hannah E S (note these initials!- I believe they are for: "Hannah Eliza Senior")
Departure Contact:	Cousin Saml Beck
Arrival Contact:	Sister Priscilla Larte

--------

Would love to exchange more info if possible.

Best regards,

Laurence Barber
Toronto, Canada
