My name is Larri-Anne Fonoimoana. Our Fonoimoana name started from my great grandfather Opapo Fonoimoana who was from Fogatuli, Savaii. Our family records have a Fonokimoana man who marries Manutafea Su'a and has Laulu who has Saulu then comes Opapo.
Have any Fonokimoana's traveled to Samoa? I am looking for any kind of information.

By now you know their is a lot of family with both the Fonoimoana and Afualo's name in Hawaii and Samoa.
Grandpa Opapo Fonoimoana was originally an Afualo but because he joined the LDS church Grandpa's father, Saulu Afualo from Samata Savaii desowned him and refused to have Grandpa use the Afualo name. So, Grandpa took the Fonoimoana name which is of Tongan origin.
I am from Grandpa Toa's line. My mother was Lemoa Fonoimoana Taualii. She was the oldest daughter of Grandpa Toa and Grandma Line and was raised as a child by Grandpa Opapo and still took care of them after she had married my father, Wallace Ualifi Taualii from Alao.

Who are your parents? I now live in Albuquerque New Mexico working at the University of New Mexico in women's basketball.

I am Larry's daughter and Teila's grand daughter. My dad sends his hello's. We live in Reno, Nv. It is so nice to hear from you. My father and I have been researching Opapo's line for some time. We have some unanswered questions about the line and extened families. It could also be that there may somethings we don't understand. I was encouraged to seek out more information online and discovered this message board.
I heard a story from family that the name Fonoimoana was Fonokimoana. For some reason the "k" was taken out. Is that when you write that Fonoimoana is a tongan name?? The name "Saulu" is the real name and Afualo is a title name?? These are just a few questions that we have had during our research.

I have heard the same story. You have some Afualos and Felys here in So. Utah. My name is Vaitogi Fely. My Grandmother is Talalelei Fonoimoana. I stayed with Malia M Soloman for about a year and I feel so lucky to be a part of our family. The most information I got was when we were just sitting about talking story. Hanging out with one of our matriarchs for a year was a great thing for me culturally. My father sent me there to "meet my roots." I have Some auntis and my Grandmother on video talking story if you are interested. I am a nurse and a Deputy Sheriff here in southern Utah. There is a Dan Afualo here as well. I just went to a Kahuku vs. Bingham football game in Cedar City Utah and it was POLY CENTRAL. It was great to see old friends and make new ones. I met some of Teila's children at a Family reunion in Azuza a few years back- Since then I named one of my children Teila after your dad. It is important to keep Hula, Polynesian food, and Polynesian traditions in our homes (Fa'a Samoa)except maybe the lickings (I took my share and about two generations as well).

Opapo, Gia Tua, Vaolo, To'oto'o, Poutoa, & Pila

Saulu & Faleipola had six children: Vasalola,Tuileva,Fogatuli,Tua'a,Utu & Pelesasa. Are any of these names familliar? I hope that we can find a connection between our families.

thanks for the help!the thing is i cant get any info from any of my parents.the onky information i have is that my grandad MANO TOOTOO OPAPO was adopted by this family....my grandad died ages ago before i was born and thats why i cant get a hold of any info from them...i see that there is a tootoo and a opapo!!! im confused....the thing is my grandad was adopted and the funny thing is we still carry on the tootoo and the Opapo with us....theres quite a lot of us....my grandad MANO TOOTOO OPAPO married SAUNOA...Any ideas???

I did a little searching on familysearch.com and came up with this. Maa Opapo md Fogatuli and had six children:
Laulu Mano Tootoo Opapo, Lagi, Kirisimasi, Loiva, Mitainasiva & Laulu. Is Laulu Mano Tootoo Opapo your grand dad that was adopted? Do you know who Maa Opapo md Fogatuli are? Would there be any way to find out more about Maa Opapo md Fogatuli? Do you know who this couple is: Siupola Opapo md Fogatuli. This may be our connection.

omg!!!!i have a feeling thats where we connect...somehow tears are just streamiong off my face 9in how many names came ub to be familiar...i dont have a clue with the laulu...but um...my grandads name is mano tootoo OPAPO!and the names of the brothers and sisters you mentioned are all in our family!we have a mitainasiva,lagi and lauulu....buh i have a feeling that my grandad has sisters and named his kids some of them...and then there was us...we have a lot of things to do on our family reasearch on here...thanks for your help but thats all i came across...
