How to use (SARA) Streekarchivariaat Regio Achterhoek database

I'm looking for someone to explain the databases that are found at http://www.achterhoeksarchief.nl/; specifically the onderzoek – bevolkingsregister.

I can find my ancestors. Each ancestor may be on more than one different register and page numbers. When I look at the individual register and page numbers, I generally find other relatives, but I don’t really understand what I’m looking at.

Can someone explain what the different register and page numbers are? Are these a census and if so, how can I know what year the census is, and is there any way to understand the relationship between all the people that may be on the same register and page number?

I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who is using this register for genealogy research and can explain it to me

Thanks in advance

Susan

Researching the following Gelderlanders who emigrated to the US: (Klein) Leugemors, Kolthoff, Looman, TeHoonte, Kempers (in Eibergen in Neede)
van Offeren, van Asch - Dutch spelling for George?

I am looking for information on George van Offeren, born about 1879. He is listed as a son in the obituary of Alberta van Asch van Offeren, born 1855, married Willem van Offeren in 1875. After Willem's death she came to America with some children in 1907. I believe George came earlier, in about 1901.

I searched for his birth in Genilas with no success, but I do not know if his first name was spelled George in the Netherlands. I would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks

My Duenk ancestors left Gelderland to settle in the state of Wisconsin, USA in 1847. Their last child was born at Aalten the end of June that year. They travelled therefore in the last six months of the year. I have not been able to find out exactly when, or on what ship. It is likely they arrived at the port of New York. My ggg grandfather was Evert Jan Duenk.
His family included wife Willemina, 3 daughters, five sons and a daughter-in-law. It is reported they all emigrated at the same time. If anyone can help me with information of their dates of departure, arrival, and upon which ship I would be very grateful.

Clasina van Batenburg, wie kan mij helpen?

Hallo,

Alvast bedankt!

Met vriendelijke groet,

Renate

One of my husband's ancestor's name is shown as Aleyt de Cock van Beusekom. However, she was said to have been of Amersfoort. Aleyt married Rombaut van Wachtendonck, who was said to have been from Ossendrent (probably Ossendrecht). I know of one daughter, Christina von Wachtendonk, zu Hemessem, who was born between 1483 - 1487, in Herzogtum Geldern; and died on 05 Jan 1561, in (Mechelen) Malines, Belgium. Christina married Johann Baptista von Taxis, on 06 Feb 1514, at Notre Dame du Sablon, Brussels, Belgium. I am confused about the surname. Was Aleyt's surname de Cock, or was it de Cock van Beusekom? If she was from Amersfoort, what would account for the van Beusekom in her surname? Any help with the names, etc. of Aleyt's parents would also be appreciated. Many thanks.

Greetings all:
Helping a friend trace her Suydam family

Is there a grave yard in the town of Zutphen with any Van Suydam's buried there?
Where woud she search for BMD records in Gelderland?

Hendrick Rycken, the progenitor of the Suydam family, came to New
Netherland 1663. Moved his family to Midwout (later Flatbush) on Long
Island from "Smith's Valley." Wife Ida Jacobs, 9 children: Ryck, d.y.;
Jacob abt. 1666; Hendrick; Ryck abt. 1675; Ida abt. 1678; Jannetje abt.
1680 d.y; Gertrude; Jannetje abt. 1683 d. y.; Jannetje abt. 1685. He never
used any name but Rycken but a son is known to have signed Van Suytdam,
which could have been misspelling of the Dutch town of Zutphen. Since all
sons eventually used Suydam as a surname, it was probably related to
Hendrick's origin in the Netherlands. No relation to Abraham Rycken or
other "Ryckens". His origin in the Netherlands is unknown

Thanks
Tom
Bradenton, Florida.

I am looking for ancestors in the Netherlands. Luidens may have been spelled Luiken(s). Any info that would help in my search would be greatly appreciated. My family emigrated to Holland, MI. My cousin has a bracelet passed down from my great-grandmother which has a family crest. It is very old, and has very unusual incriptions. We would love to find someone who could assist in interpreting the meaning of the crest. Great grandmother's name was Dirkje "Dora" Luidens Green. Her parents were Jacob Luidens b: 1933 in the Netherlands and Geertje Van Arendont/VanArendonk, b: 1843 in the Netherlands. Geertje remarried after Jacob's death to Jacob Lievense, b: 1841. Surnames which are associated with VanArendonk are: Verploegh; Valcken; Bergakker; De Jonge

Would like to trace my ancestry further back than 1604 and need help from someone living in the Vorden area, or from a Brinkerhoff relative. All information, even without dates or records is welcome. Would also like to know what life was like in 1620-30's that would cause my ancestor to imigrate...search for religious freedom...zeal for missionary work...encouragement by the Dutch West India Company? The family was granted a crest and knighthood in 1307...who was given that honor? Was the family well-to-do from 1307-1600? Thanks for your help.
John Brinkerhoff-Moore, Orlando, Florida, USA.

I am searching for my family and have hit a brick wall. I have a Jacob Levy/Levi van Aalten, and a Simon Levy/Levi van Aalten in my family. The name taking changed it to the van Aalten surname. I am unable to find anything on them going backwards.

I am back to Joseph Jacob Levie, whom had a son Jacob Levi ( van Aalten). His two children were Simon Jakob Levi van Aalten, and Esther-Hester Jacob Levi van Aalten.

Simon ben Levie ( van Aalten) my 5th GGrandfather had children, Jacob Simons van Aalten and Brandje van Aalten. I have no other information on Simon. Jacob Simons van Aalten would be my 4th GGrandfather. He was married to Klaare en Cohen. I have desending information from there.

I don't know if Jacob and Simon were brothers but I will continue to search. If anyone can help I would very much appreciate it.

Marilyn van Aalten Hiller

I have searched the Vuren/Dalem Gelderland churchbooks on LDS film for my ancestor Pieter van de Giesse(n) born around 1774. I have found his marriage record in 1804, being married to Dirkje van de Giesse, and I've found Dirkje's birth record in 1774. Pieter died in 1856 (February?). Pieter is not listed in any Dalem births around 1774, although the marriage record states he was born in Dalem. He was 28 at the time of marriage. Church records from 1856 are not on LDS film. Does anyone have access to the 1856 death records in the Netherlands which would provide the names of Pieter's parents? Thanks in advance for any information you can provide. Robin

Hello! I have just began researching my "van der Horst" family from Lienden. I seem to have exhausted the genlias database and am wondering if there are any online searchable archives for periods before 1811?

I have also come across 2 names which i believe could be the same person. Are Melis and Matijs similar/same names?

One last question :) - i have also come across ALOT of children that have passed away at a very young age - 1 family in particular had 5 x kids die before the age of 5..... is this normal for the mid 1800's, was their a common sickness that could have caused this?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Michelle :)

Does anyone know how I would go about getting the military records for my great grandfather, Bertus Vandenhazel, born 22 Feb. 1873, in Nijkerk, Gelderland, Netherlands? He was in the Dutch Marine Corps in the 1890's and decorated for bravery. My mother (his granddaughter) and I would love to have a copy of those records. Any information would be extremely helpful. Thank you in advance.
Shauna

The hoogstraten Family

Groeten!
Willem N. (Bill) Hoogstraten

Several cousins are getting together on a MyFamily Web Site to do research on the Buys/Buijs/Boyce/Boice Family. (There are many other various spellings but all phonetically the same). We all seem to agree on the line back to Johannes Buys and Neeltje Claasze de Graaf but then there is a division. One group says Aret Pietersen Buys is the next generation back and another says Jan Thyssen Buys. We hope to work on this. If you are working on this line, please join us. We will be posting pictures and sharing what we each have in information. There is no charge and it is a closed site. You will need an invitation to join so you can get a username and password.
Boice Family

I am working on my great-grandmother, Catherine Jane Boice's family line. We beleive that she descended form Jan Thyssen Buys and Jannetjie Van den Ham. The name has been spelled Buijs, Buys, Boys, Buis. Bise, Bice, Boise, Boice, Boyce and several other ways that all sound the same phonetically. The family was originally from the Gelderland Province of the Netherlands, Dutch West Indies and later New Amsterdam (New York City).

Jan Thyssen Buys had a son, Johannes Buys (Buijs/Buis/Boys), and he was married to Neeltje Claasze de Graaf.

The problem is that most researchers agree on the line back to Johannes Buys and Neeltje Claasze de Graaf. But then a division occurs among the researchers. One group agrees that Jan Thyssen Buys is the original immigrantand father of Johannes Buys. A second group says no.... it is Aret Pieterson Buys who is the father of Johannes Buys and Aret Pieterson Buys is the original immigrant. There seems to be support for both sides. Can anyone help me unravel this? Claudia Redmond Riley

Linnewever(s) / Lebbink

Hello,

I have been researching my gg grandfather's family line without much
success. Herman Linnevers came to America in 1852 on the South Caroline
from Rotterdam to New York with his wife Maria Lebbink. The surname
Linnevers does not exist in Netherlands today. I have come across the
surname Linnewever(s) from Elburg in the International Genealogical Index
from the LDS, but could not find his family. I can only assume that his
name was Americanized to Linnevers from Linnewevers. I believe that he came
from Gelderland province since all of the Dutch families that he lived near
in America were from Gelderland. These families were Grotenhuis, Hasselo,
Nijland, and Plekenpol.

Herman was born in 1823 and died in Cleveland, Ohio in April 1908. His
occupation was a cooper and had a business with Bernardt Rolder. Herman and
Maria had six children - Wilhelmina, Maria, Johanna, Hendrika, Jan, and
Josephine.

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice or information.

Thanks in advance,
Tom
