Compiling an extensive history/record of the Beddoes/ows of South Shropshire (many moved to Staffordshire, Yorkshire and abroad - USA, Canada, New Zealand).

Always delighted to hear from anyone who may be interested.

I have traced the family from 900s to present day, (descent from welsh prince/ruler Elystan Glodrydd to Maredudd ap Hywel alias: Bedo Bach of Bishop's Castle and his son Thomas ap Bedo alias: Bedowes of All Stretton).

I too am interested in Beddows family from Shropshire. I was a Beddows by birth! Am trying to prove at the moment which Richard Beddows is mine! Richard Beddows was born around 1793 (Census place varies from Ditton to Bridgnorth) I think he was born in Chetton son of William and Mary Beddoes but have not yet proved this to my satisfaction. He then moved to Rowley Regis, Staffordshire dying in 1870. I am related to his son Joseph Beddows born 1837 Rowley Regis. Can supply more details of this line if you are interested. Can you help me prove the link?

My grandmother was Jane Bedows who lived and died in Royston, South Yorkshire. I had a great uncle Richard (Dick) who emigrated to Oregon and a great uncle Roland who emigrated to Canada. This would have been in the early to mid 1900's. have you ever come accross them in your research.

Hello,
I am a Beddows by birth. My father is Richard Henry Christopher born 1926 in Edgbaston Birmingham England. His father Henry died in 1936 (dob unknown) and originated from Shropshire. Henry had 3 butcher shops in Wolverhampton according to my father. He also believes that the family came from Flint in North Wales before moving to Shropshire. My father's mother is Alma (nee Denton). We also believe that my father had an older sister that emigrated to Canada when he was a baby.
I would love to know if any of this stacks up with your info.
Many thanks,
Angela

Hi there,

you may already have this info, in my village ( Ironbridge) there was a Hardware store built in the 1870's which sold practically everything up until it closed in 1980's. It was run by the Beddoes family, I have a picture of it taken in 1890's showing them standing outside. I would be more than happy to send it to you for your collection if you think it of interest

Hi Philip -
I am descended from Susannah Beddoes b. 1753 in Wistantow. She married Richard Cartwright in 1778. They were my ggg-grandparents. Her parents were William Beddoes and Hannah Lucas. I've gone back quite a bit - some good family trees out there. I would love to hear from you. I will be happy to share what I have. Thanks for clearing up about Bedo bach. That really had me confused when I saw different names in some of the trees.
Kaji (Katherine) Pafunda (nee Cartwright)
