Possibly you are referring to Lars Oyane. He continues to do research on Luster County (Norway) families. He has already published 5 volumes from these church areas: Fortun (Vol.1), Dale 1 (Vol.2), Dale 2 and Nes (Vol.3), Gaupne (Vol.4) and Jostedal (Vol.5. Judy Gates, 416 Pine St., Viroqua, WI., 54665 USA, phone: (+1) 608-637-3805 will advise you how to get more information or buy these unique bygdebooks.

My Aabergs are from the Bollingberg farm in Vol. 4. Let me know if I can be of more help.

Sue
Trygve still lives in Oslo and I write to him. All those different people on the farm are not necessarily relatived. You'd have to find the church book for N. Aurdal- film can be ordered at a Family History Centre of the Mormon church for a nominal fee. You just have to know the years you are looking for in N. Aurdal. The church boooks started there in 1692 but there are other records that are older, including the 1660 or so census.

Yes, I would like the address of the person you mention who lives in Oslo. I'm hoping to go to Norway in the spring.
My email is belgumj@home.com

Hilsen, Janni
Hi Andrew,

The best place to start is with what you know. Do you have your parent's names, birth and death dates? The location where they lived? You start there and work backwards.

This site does not charge for anything. But most information is found at the county level. If you don't know the county, go to:

http://resources.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/townco.cgi

and it will find it for you.

Probably the best place to start is:

http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norway/

Genealogy is like putting a jigsaw puzzle together - only you have no picture and have to go find the pieces yourself. But, it is very rewarding when you do. You will find long lost relatives that you never knew you had.

Good luck on your searching.

Sue

Help please

I am looking for Aaberg family history, but I don't know where to start. I can't afford to pay the 50-100 dollars that websites like this one want, so it's pretty much going to be just me looking. Any help is appreciated though.

I don't really have any names that would be of any help, so I guess I'd just like to know as much as I can about the Aaberg family.

I would also really like to find my family's Coat of Arms - I'm almost positive we had one, my brother had one embroidered for my father. It could have been a novelty one, but I think it was real. Does anybody know if the Aaberg Family really has one or not?

Any help you guys could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance.

Also, and this is going to sound like a real stupid question, but where any Aabergs real Vikings? (I always joke with my friends about how I'm a Viking, I was just wondering if any of my ancestors were.)

Thanks again.

I am not of Aaberg line, I just like to do research to help others on sometimes.

I found a few records of Ole Aabergs. But, with so little information it is difficult to know which if any apply to you.

Here they are:

Ole Aaberg b. Jan 23 1865 m. Gena ? July 18 1885 in Rothsay, Minnesota d. August 11, 1936 in Rothsay, Minnesota c. Clara (1885), Olive (1888), Charles (1892), Nora Clarice (1904), Tina (1910)...and several others that are or were living at the time the record was created.

There is also an Ole Thoresen Aaberg that married a woman named Aasta Andreadr in 1887 in Aurdal, Opplan, Norway.

Not sure if either of these are yours. But, maybe they have some clues in them for you nonetheless.

Best of luck researching
R. D.

I am looking for descendants of Rev. L.K. (or M.K.) Aaberg and Emma Jeanette Lerum (1879-1964). Would like to fill in Emma's line. Am willing to share information on Emma's family. Have very little on Rev. L.K., but do have 2 pictures of L.K. and Emma on what appears to be their wedding. Thanks in advance. Sue

He is the "historian" of Sogn og Flordane fylke so I'd look for your relatives in that area- "Aaberge"

Well I have been getting 2/3 messages from you each timeyou send a message. You just might try plain sending me an email with the address I've given.

belgumj@home.com

One other thing real quick when i post do i type my name and email or yours?

Lost a friend: am so sorry to hear this. That really is a shock -- be kind with yourself during this time.

I went to the 1801 census and when i typed in Aaberg it gave me the name Christians Ourdahl Ourdahls Hoved Sogn Aaberg. I believe i have 27 relatives all with different names. It was hard to understand because it was in the native tongue!! I also typed in Aaberge and got Sogndahl Aaberge. Needless to say i'm a little confused. I did find out, from my great uncle Dale that Ihave a cousin that lives in Oslo,Norway. His name is Lars a Oyane. He was the one who came to the states and traced the Aaberg history. I guess he got his doctorite in history at the age of 20. Pretty Smart. Maybe he knows something about Trygve. One last thing Uncle Dale told me was the name Aaberg means "High on the hill". I can get lars' address for you if you think it will do any good.

Sincerely Brett

You can see how large the farm is by going to the 1801 Norwegian census on line:
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/index-eng.htm
Put Aaberg in the farm slot. My direct relatives are listed as Biorn Bionsen age 72 and Dorte Olsdtr. age 69. Yours are most likely there, too. Their daughter Dorte married a man on the Belgum farm.
What ancestors' names and dates do you have?

Sincerely, Janni Belgum

Hello Janni. I just spoke with my great uncle Dale, He told me that the name Aaberg means "High on the hill". He then told me that alot of the Aaberg familly was from Wisconsin, South Dakota and nebraska. I also have a cousin that lives outside Oslo, Norway. His name is Lars a Oyane, at one point he owned bookstore. He has a doctorite in history and was the one who did all research for the book of the familly tree i mentioned. Lars' address is Po Box 255051 Nesttun Norway. I hope you find this interesting. so long Brett

Thanks for responding. I had no idea that there was so many Aaberg farms. Are all those farms related in some way? I'm pretty much clueless to all the Aaberg history and how we came about. Do you mind filling me in? I would also like to know where you are from and all that kind of stuff. This is my first time useing the net!!!! I will get the book that list every aaberg from my sister and maybe we can learn alot more about Aabergs.

Trygve Aaberg is a relative of mine. My "Aaberg" comes from the name of a farm in Oppland county NW of Oslo, actually due West of Lillehammar where the 1994 Olympics were staged. While there are some 46+ Aaberg farms in Norway in 1865, only 2 are not in Nord Aurdal, Oppland, where my family comes from. Aaberg was a very large farm in 1801, which was separated over time into smaller holdings.
Hilsen, Janni
