I'm descended from George Abbott of Rowley (also known as Junior and George the Tailor). To the best of my knowledge, the two Georges were not related to each other. George of Rowly was apparently called George Junior while George of Andover, your ancestor was referred to as George Senior. Your ancestor George was about 16 years older than my ancestor George.

George of Rowley married Johanna Williamson who died in 1658 and then married my 10 X great grandmother, Sarah Farnum.

Hope this helps you out a little bit.

I am trying to trace any Abbotts coming from John Henry Abbott born 31st July 1936. John Henry married in 1975 to a Lynne Griffiths. He had 2 children, twins, Frank and Robert.
John Henry was married before this and it is believed he had sons, possibly called Patrick, David, Paul and Andrew.
I have come to a complete blank trying to find the previous marriage.
John Henry Abbott was born in Ireland, possibly Gorey. His 2nd marriage took place in Birmingham, and I believe his 1st marriage was also in the Birmingham area.
Any help with this would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks,
Amy :-)

Thanks so much for your reply. My GGGrndfather was James Harrison Abbott. He and his second family lived in Centralia, Illinois. I have been able to secure all information on his life and family in the south but only names of his family in Illinois. During the CW he was captured and when released he didn't return to the south. When he returned to the south he had been missing for 50 years.I have names of his Illinois family but have never been able to hear from any living family member. In 2005 I put his life in the south and his CW days in a book. Would love to complete the Illinois family. He had a very usually life. Barbara

Charles W Abbott b. about 1850 Sudbury MA?

Charles W Abbott born about 1850 in Sudbury, MA, son of William Abbott Jr b 1828 and Lydia Angeline Hayes b 1830.

It appears his father was gone? before his first birthday. Lydia Angeline and Charles W were living with her parents at 1850 Census. 1870 Census he's living with his mother and her second husband, Lorenzo Andrews. Charles W's profession appears to be "Engineer Steam Boat."

On 28 May 1873, he married Sarah Emma Hoar (sometimes her first and middle names are switched) b. 29 Dec 1850 to Reuben Sawyer Hoar b 1815 and Mary Ann Stone b. 1817.

But, she's living with her parents at the 1880 census, and then she has a baby girl, Ethel, 20 Apr 1881, who lived for six months.

I can't find Charles W anywhere except their marriage (which, oddly, seems to happen both in Massachusetts AND Rhode Island, though as far as I can tell, neither have any connections to RI), and 1850 and 1870 Censuses.

Would like to learn more about Charles W Abbott, and real curious about the story of him and Sarah and their baby girl. Thank you.
I've got a Martha Abbott who married Stephen Green on 08 Apr 1815 in Henry County Kentucky. Her father is listed in the record as George Abbott. Stephen and Martha went to live in Aurora, Dearborn County, Indiana. Later census records report Martha as having been born in Tennessee.

I haven't been able to find any other trace of this George Abbott -- but theoretically he could be a brother of your Hezekiah.
Mary Bridges, who married Aaron Abbot in 1760, didn't die in 1762. They had their daughter Martha (m James Chadbourn) baptized in the First Church of Berwick that year, and their son Aaron Jr. (m James's half-sister Elizabeth Allen) in 1763. Unfortunately for researchers of this family, they moved to the Wells/York border and out of extant church records after 1763. Any other children, including my ancestor Dorcas (m Samuel Allen 1787), Dominicus G., Nathaniel, and Elisha, are speculative only for now. The Abbots were in Hamilton County in 1794, but may have left Maine as early as 1791.

Diane, your mother Lena Fay is my cousin. My father was William Virgil and my mother is Berlie Pauline Abbott. Like yourself I continue to look for information about the family. I know that my father's father, Arthur, is buried in Cullman, Alabama. Stories that I have heard indicate at times the weather has stripped away some of that God awful, red clay and that coffins have had to be recovered, so there is no way of know the actual spot of his remains. Grand mother is buried near my father William Virgil and my brother William Joseph. The only person in the family that may have information is Barbara Sue Lindsey Smith. She is, this is strange, my father's half siser and my mother's half sister. She retains Bibles from both the Abbott and Lindsey families, so I suspect she would be the person to contact. I believe she actually lives near your mother in Alabama. My mother would be of no help as she has alzheimers and is in a nursing facility. I would like to know if/when you find more information.

James F and Mary Johnson Abbott are cousins to me. James F's father was James S Abbott - and his brother Micah Abbott was my 2G grandfather. Micah's son William moved to Wisconsin in 1850. James F's son Freeman Farewell also came to Wisconsin, then later settled in Iowa.

I haven't followed a lot of the descendants of this particular branch, jporter17 will do better at that, but maybe I can help you with ancestors of them.

This particular Abbott line goes back to George Abbott, b abt 1615 in Bishops Stortford England, came to the US 1642, was one of the first settlers and founders of Andover, MA, and died there 1647. He was married to Hannah Chandler, who later married Rev Francis Dane - famous during the witchcraft trials for being the main opposition to Cotton Mather. All kinds of good stories in this Abbott family!

I didn't see any Abbott's mentioned that were that far north. The book centers around William Abbott of SC in the late 1700's. Most of the descendants stayed in the south, moving westward to GA., Ala., Tenn., Miss.,Texas, Missouri, and Arkansas. Some eventually may have gone north, but they aren't mentioned in the book.

This is one Abbott genealogy book I don't have. I would love to get a copy. How far back does it go? And which Abbott line(s) does it cover?

I have identified 3 distinct lines of Abbotts in my tree: the George Abbott married to Sarah Farnum and known as George of Rowley MA; the George Abbott married to Hannah Chandler and known as George of Andover MA; and a Walter Abbott married to Sarah Steward and living in Rockingham NH.

All were born in the early 1600's, came to the US as young men, and all are from England. Their descendants intermarried but I haven't been able to prove a family connection between the 3 men or their ancestors, although there is speculation that the 2 Georges might have been cousins or uncle/nephew.
