This could well be so as Annis didn't die until October of 1925 in Memphis.
But girls were sent to French Camp Presbyterian Home in French Camp Miss ..I spoke by phone but never got up there to my regret. The files were in basement so told but may be allowed to see them..?

Debbie,

This is so interesting but some confusing. The girls have the name of Abington. I'm sure one was born before the marriage ( have to pull out my photos of girls) to James. Maybe they were seperated and she was pregnant by James? I would love to find them if they are still living. Someone few years ago said Katherine lived in Texas but wanted nothing to do with the family ( I guess the Abington/Woodalls). It very unusual that her adopted mother is Annis Wilkins? Perhaps she was a relative of Annis?

to contact me personally:
sandewhite@yahoo.com

cass,

Annis died on October 25th, 1925? Would your grandfather have been born before then? I was also under the impression Annis died from "childbirth fever".

Let me knowwhen he was born. May still be right relative.
Thanks,
sande

oh man i really had my fingers crossed! someone on here mentioned having a marriage cert for james and annis which was dated 9-10 months before my grandfather was born in 1925. story is that his mother died soon after and he was then adopted. interesting coincidence but i guess it isnt the right relative. thanks for the help.

im looking into a possibility (based on another suggestion someone made in another forum) that annis had another child after her marriage to james abington in 1925 before her death in October. Does anyone know of any rumors of a son born feb 1925 and given up for adoption in MS?

Your Grandfather was a half brother to my father. John B. Abington married Jeanette Gwynn in 1899 Their first child was your Grandfather and he was named after our Great Grandfather and Jeanette's maiden name. James was born in 1900 then John B. Abington was born in 1901 and Jeanette (daughter) was born in 1902. John B. Abington and Jeanette Gwynn Abington divorced in 1906. John B. kept the boys and Jeanette took the girl. A few years later Jeanette, while tending to her sick daughter in the middle of the night caught her nightgown on fire. She died a few days later. The battle over who took the girl became so heated that the stat of Tennesse put her in a orphanage. I have communicated with the girls great grand daught if I can find it I'll send it to you. I have a picture of John B. Abington, James B. Abington , John B. Abington Jr. and Jeanette Abington after returning from Jeanette Gwynn's funeral. By the way the B is for Benjamin.

Dear Abington 138,
Balynea House is a late 19th c building which is now a hotel, no signs of Habington portraits now. Though they may b in Ireland somewhere. I am also researching the Habingtons as I would like to find out how they are connected to my Abington ancestors.

I don't know if this helps but the infi I have is as follows.
Jeannette Gwynn married John B, Abington in 1899. They had three children. James G. Abington 1901, John B. Abington 1902 and Catherine Abington 1903. In 1906 John B. Abington and Jeannette Gwynn divorced. John B. kept the boys and Jeannette kept the girl. In 1914 while tending to a sick Catherine in the night, Jeannette caught on fire from a oil lamp and died 2 weeks later. Two Grandmother fought over the custody of Catherine. The result was she was sent to a home that I have no information on. I assume that the church you refer to is maybe where she went. But she had 2 brothers and no sisters. Maybe Catherine acquired a step sister later.

Abington, Sr. and Mrs. Anna Wright (maiden name unknown) were married July 4, 1911 and divorced around 1914. I do believe that they are your father's birth parents. The 2 boys and girl(ours) were from his prior marriage, also ending in divorce. I don't know if he had any children with wife #3(?), Barbara, but he had two more sons with his last wife, Alice.
I also have a copy of John Benjamin Abington Sr.'s 1946 obituary, listing your father as son "Kent Abington of Texas" I will send that as well.
Jennifer in California

That's great. Please send me your email address and I will send you the picture. Any information in regards to the Abingtons would be helpful. I know that all 3 generations that I know of were born in Collierville. James Abington Senior was the Mayor in 1870. Then John Benjamin Abington was a deputy Sheriff I beleive around 1930. I beleive John benjamin Abington is buried at Elmwood cemetery in Memphis.Find a Grave website). I'm not sure if John Benjmin Abington was the father of my father or if he adopted him. I'll send the picture to you as soon as I have a email address. You can send me the picture of my dad when you find it. Thanks. Don Haas

His name was changed when adopted by Anna and Weaver Haas. I'm not sure what year the adoption occured but in 1930 my dad was still with John Abington.

These were originally at Hindlip in Worcestershire, England, but the last confirmed location we have of them is in 1896 in the possession of Mr. A. More O'Ferrall at Balyna Estate in Ireland. We would love to know what happened to them. Copies of the portraits are attached

I believe we may have a connection.
I am researching my mother-in-law's Gwynne/Abington family:
When I first saw your post, it jumped right out at me because C(K)atherine Abington was my mother-in-law's mother's name and Jeannette was HER mother's name. But, when I saw the dates, they were too late (our Katherine was born in 1903, however, she was also orphaned at an early age when her mother, Jeannette) died. But now, after reading further posts from you and Shari, they might fit together after all.
John B. ABINGTON married Jeannette E. GWYNNE about 1899 in Memphis or Collierville, TN. They had the following 3 children:
James G. b. ca 1901
John B. jr b. ca 1902
Katherine W. b. ca 1903
They divorced and both were married at least two more times. The boys stayed with their dad while Katherine went with her mother. If this James G. Abington is the one who married your grandmother, it is makes sense that he could have named his daughters after his deceased mother and only sister (who went to California after spending a year in an orphanage herself).

Abington/Moore Family of North Carolina, Kentucky and Arkansas

Looking for the family of Mary C. ABINGTON who married William L. MOORE, December 9, 1846 in Fayette County, Tennessee. Mary C. Abington was born December 21, 1831 in Kentucky and her father was William Abington, mother is unknown. She died July 21, 1911 in Hickory Plains, Prairie County, Arkansas. William Abington was born in North Carolina per a biography of William L. Moore in "Biographical & Historical Memoirs of Eastern Arkansas", page 718 by Goodspeed Publishers, 1891.

William and Mary Abington Moore moved to Prairie County, Arkansas sometime between 1850 and 1860. There is a J.B. ABINGTON, possibly a relation, that is also living in Prairie County, Arkansas. I have no further information about him. Other Abington's living in Phillips County, Arkansas, are the following:

H.A. ABINGTON. Born about 1835 (Source: 1880 Cypress, Phillips County, Arkansas, Federal Census) in North Carolina. Both parents were born in North Carolina. Possibly a brother to Mary C. Abington. His wife is listed as "E.A." Abington, born about 1837 in Mississippi. Her parents were both born in North Carolina. They had the following children:

1. Frances or Fannie B. Abington b. About 1845

2. Callie Abington b. About 1861

3. Jennie Abington b. About 1862

There is also a W.T.ABINGTON living in White County, Arkansas. Born about 1845 in Tennessee.

This is all I have on these Abington's. If anyone can give me information on the parentage or ancestors of Mary C. Abington Moore I would be very appreciative.

the two sisters you are speaking of i believe are my aunts, married to my uncles stan and don abington. i know my uncle don is deceased but i think stan is still alive.
do you know where he is? last i knew stan and jean had moved to wyoming.
i am jan abington daughter of walker abington, my uncle stan's oldest brother.
i have been trying to trace our side of the family but can't get back past my grandfathers father. if you know of my uncles whereabouts, i'd love to know.
sincerely, jan abington
