I'm looking for my grandmothers records from Cuba. She lived in Havana. Her name was Berta Abramson (possibly spelled Bertha). She was a Cuban Jew. She arrived in New York in 1947 but we are mainly looking for anything from when she lived in Havana, Cuba.

If anyone has any idea of how to get information from Cuba we would be eternally grateful. Thank you!

Re: Rachael Plotsky ABRAMSON

My great Grandmother was named Rachel Plotsky, however, her husband's name was Frank. They were from what was Lomza an Eastern area of Russian Poland. PLOTSK is a term meaning a government of Russian Poland.

The name Chaim is a prefix, meaning "Life" or "18" and the name Mordecai does not match up - however, it may be possible that at times European Jews in America would simplify their names for records, such as a marriage license or a census. Frank and Rachel Plotsky are lsted on my grandfather's marriage license, dated October 1, 1918 in Manhatten, NY. The name Abramson is not within our lineage, however, since you posted this so long ago and again more recently, I thought I would reply.

If you need more info or want to pursue this, please let me know.
I'm looking for the family that had children Cyril, Rose, Joe , Ettie, Mike Phyllis and Edith and lived in the prairies.

There where two brothers that owned a milk and egg business in Bayonne NJ.

They lived on Henry street in NYC. Their english names where Sam (born 1879) and Joseph. Their hebrew names where Lipki and Lazer Richie. They had two brothers Louis and Simon who where builders in Bayonne NJ. There are also two sister s Kissen and Block. There was a nephew Ben Kissen (unsure of the spelling) The story that I know is that they came to the US together this would be March 1888 and their father Benejamin died on the way to the boat. I have no information on where they where from in Russia.

Hi all,

my name is Alvin Alexander Abramson. I am 38 and my father was also named Alvin Alexander Abramson. He was born in June 1926 on St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.

His father, my grandfather, was named JOSEPH Alexander Abramson - his wife, my grandma, was LETICIA, maiden name: BENJAMIN.

That's the information on my fathers birth record.

The Name ABRAMSON is danish/swedish - which makes sense, since denmark bought the Islands from Spain, before the USA bought the 3 islands in 1917. So, Abramson seems to be "our" name from times of slavery...

Does anyone know anything interesting about this family, or can see some relation?

Would be very interesting... I live in Europe - by the way... Maybe the Abramsons could meet on Facebook?

Best regards so far
Alex

Abramsons from Phila

I'm looking for information on Abramsons who immigrated from Russia to Philadelphia. I'm looking for more information on a William H. Abramson. If all my information is correct, he was born May 11, 1889. He arrived from Russia in 1906 and he was naturalized in 1916. He was married to Sara/Sarah Rubin (sp-? - I'm told that's the correct spelling of the last name.) who came was born around 1892, arrived from Russia in 1905 and was also naturalized in 1916. They had two daughters, Sylvia who was born in 1913 and Pauline who was bown in 1916. I found a WWII draft registration card that says he was born in Lekowitz Russia. He was a cobbler and owned his own store.

I'm also looking on information on his daughter Sylvia Abramson who became a doctor and opened her own practice with an office in Narberth, Pa, with her friend and associate Barbara Sachs. Barbara was a physician and surgeon and Sylvia was an ob-gyn, I believe. Sylvia married a man with the last name of Mazer. In Barbara's obituary on the Penn State Obituaries section, Sylvia is mentioned. (http://www.upenn.edu/gazette/0104/0104obits.html) I've heard that they were pretty well known and very good doctors and I know they liked to travel a lot.

I would really appreciate any help or information anyone could give me. If not, thanks for reading my post.

Jewish Abramson in England

It appears that, in fact, my great-mother was Fanny Abramson, from somewhere in England. Her husband, Hyman Shenker, appears on a British census; I've yet to find her, though.

But, both are listed as parents on the marriage documents of their daughters (Rachel and Jenny) in Canada in the 1910's. Rachel is my maternal grandmother.

There is possibility that the two daughters were in an orphanage in England before coming to Montreal as children.

Does anyone recognize this branch of family?

Arnold D. Samlan

West Hempstead, NY

Researching: SAMLAN (CHICAGO, HAMILTON ONT., MONTREAL), SHENKER (MONTREAL, ENGLAND), KOOPERMAN/COOPERMAN/KUPERMAN (YARUN/YARIN), BRODER/BROTHER (HIRCHIRKI ?, HIRKI?)

Sol Abramson, devoted husband of Hosh Abramson, was born July 7, 1916, in Shreveport, Louisiana, and passed away on February 28, 2004, in La Jolla, California. Together, Sol and Hosh founded one of the South ' s first discount stores in the 1950s, United Jewelers and Distributors, Inc., in Shreveport. Later acquired by Gordon Jewelers, United became the flagship store in their national discount chain. Sol and Hosh retired to La Costa in 1967. Sol was a board member of the Anti-Defamation League and supported many Jewish Community projects in San Diego. He served on the board of the Jewish Federation of Shreveport and was a member of Shreveport ' s El Kaharuba Temple of Shriners. He continues to be loved by his best friend and wife of 64 years, Hosh Abramson of La Costa. He will be ever admired and most missed by his children, Arnold Abramson of Dallas, Davi Abramson Zinsser of New York City, and Beth Abramson of Del Mar, as well as his three grandchildren and childhood pal and brother-in-law, Izzy Horowitz. Services were held Monday, March 1, 2004 at El Camino Memorial Park and Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, Sol would have appreciated being honored by a donation to your favorite charity or the San Diego chapter of the Anti-Defamation League. Please sign the guest book at obituaries.uniontrib.com
Published in the San Diego Union-Tribune on 3/2/2004. (volunteer submission)
