I ia always looking for anything for the Achenbachs. The only genealogical info I have was from my grandmother: Mary Amelia Achenbach Finley:
"Peter, Sr & (Mary M) or Elizabeth Achenbach, who were both Germans, came from Lancaster Co, Penn; and after settling in Ohio and Wayne Co, Ind, came to Hamilton Co, IND and located oon wilk land where the Mount Pleasant Church now stands. He came to Indiana about 1834."
copied from History of Howard and Tipton Conties, 1933

As you can see, I have no clues as to the Achenbach family prior to 1834 in Tipton County , Indiana. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am Emanuel (DOB: Aug 13, 1872)and Delilah (Zerbe) Achenbach's (DOB 4-5-1879) great granddaughter. We just burried my grandmother, Mina Marie Achenbach Huston on June 13, 2007. She was 95! I have the following information based on her bible and recollection: Emanuel married his first cousin, Delilah Zerbe and had 5 children; Harold, Lloyd, Paul, Mina and a son who died as a infant. Paul died in his 20's from a heart condition. Emanuel died Jan 10, 1957 months before my birth. Delilah died march 12, 1944. Delilah was married before (Wright)and had another daughter, Margaret ( we called her Amber).

Emanuel's father was Lewis Achenbach (4-5-1847 to 7-8-1927) who married Elizabeth Zerbe (11-7-1854to 1-1929). They were located in the Schuykill County in PA and relocated to Tipton, Iowa. Lewis' father was Jon Wilhelm Achenbach(3-22-1808 to 5-7-1895 Berks Cty PA)) and mother was Catharina Hehn. Jon's father was Johanes Achenbach (9-15-1773 ) and his father was Anthony Aughenbaugh (9-15-1749) from Dolf Eisen Germany.

I'm interested in how you are related to Emanuel! Sounds like we both have the same great grandfather. Hope this helps.

Kathy

I have some info on Joseph W. and Carl W. which is in my tree, the G. K. McDowell family tree, which i believe you can access. Joseph was my great-grandfather. Joseph lived in Reading in 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880 and died there on 25 Feb. 1897. You helped me out by giving me the exact birth dates for each of the 2 persons. Joseph married Catherine Fox sometime in the 1860's (she later called herself Kate.) I believe I established that they had 9 children together, but I am not sure the infor I got from the censuses wwas correct on that. Carl W. was one of their children and was previously called Carrel. He married an Ella C., but I don't know when or what her maiden name was. He apparently died sometime between 1910 and 1920. Joseph started the first steam laundry in Reading.
Joseph's fahter was Henry Auchenbach and his mother was Mary Shultz. More details are on my tree. One of Joseph's
and Kate's children was Edmund G. Auchenbach, who was my maternal grandfather. Kate was the daughter of an Eleonora Schmeck, who was the granddaughter of a Henry Schmeck, who served in the American Revolution. More details can be found at http://www.ancestry.chezhorton.com/phpGedView/individual.php...

ELIAS ACHENBACH

My E-MAIL address: g_achenbach@yahoo.com. I am GARY LEE ACHENBACH, son of WILLIAM HENRY ACHENBACH, grandson of GEORGE WASHINGTON ACHENBACH, great grandson of ELIAS ACHENBACH. I have traced him back to the 1870 census, I think. I have just started doing my genealogy and did not know that my grandfather had brothers and sisters. My father did not talk about ever having AUNTS OR UNCLES, but if I have the correct ELIAS, then GEORGE had 18 brothers & sisters. I am lost. I would appriciate any information on any family members, living or dead. I have no kids and thought when I died our line would be ended, namewise. I am the only male ACHENBACH from GEORGE WASHINGTON ACHENBACH. I was born Oct. 1, 1949; William Henry Achenbach was born May 7, 1922; George Washington Achenbach was born Aug. 5, 1875 +/- and Elias appx. Sept. 1844. Thank You for any help you can give me concerning both past and present lines.

There is a "Family Memorial" of John Philip Achenbach and descendants. This has a great deal of information on that family. I am not sure where to get it. I was unable to connect this lineage to mine however the time frame of arriving in the now USA is the same. Supposedly John Philip came with another brother which leads me to think it might have been Johann Matthias Achenbach, my ancestors.

Lewis was a brother to my great grandfather Israel. It seems Lewis and another brother Emmanuel headed from PA to the west with Lewis in IA and Emmauel in WY. Info I have on Lewis's children are Harold Emmanuel,Mina Marie,Lloyd Erwin, Edwin Charles, and Paul Morris. I have recieved info on the Achenbach's back to when Johann Matthias immigrated into Philadelphia in Oct.1754 Another distant cousin had sent me a great deal of research info from which the above is from.

ACHENBACH of Lancaster Co PA and Bartholomew Co., IN

I just located (last night) my ancestors in Bartholomew County, Indiana. They have moved there from Lebanon Co. Pennsylvania.

This is what I know about them:

Samuel ADAM (b: 1800 in PA) and his wife, Catherine (b: 1801 in PA -- possibly maiden name is COOK)were in Mill Creek, Lebanon Co., PA from about 1809 to about 1854 when they disappeared. Reading probate records and land sales, I discovered that Samuel's older brother, Joseph, and his married sister, Sarah (Mr. Peter BERRY / BURRY / BORRY) lived in Bartholomew County. I reviewed the 1860-1880 census records for German Twp in Bartholomew and found them .. and what appear to be their children or somehow related:

ADAM(S), Joseph and wife Barbara 1830-1870
ADAM(S), Samuel and wife Catherine 1860-1870
COOK, Barbara Mrs. -- believe to be mother of Catherine above
ADAM(S), Joel .. not sure how he is related
ADAM(s), George .. believe son of Samuel & Catherine 1870+
ACHENBACH, Peter .. son of Samuel and Joseph's sister, Elizabeth who married Peter ACHENBACH and lived in Cocalico Twp, Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania
BERRY / BORRY / BURRY (depending on census -- but correct spelling is BERRY), Peter and his wife, Sarah ADAM(s), sister to Samuel and Joseph.

I would appreciate any help on the descendants of these families. It appears Joseph died or moved prior to the 1870 census .. and Samuel died before the 1880 census.

Bonita ladybonita@mail.com

Hello Charlotte, I am doing research on the William Murdoch family. I believe Agnes Murdoch is Karl Achenbach's mother. Agnes' baby sister was my grandmother. I would be very interested in talking with you.

Janis

I might have some information on your Gladys, although the Achenbachs are really an offshoot from my primary line of the Kempf family. I do have in my database, a Gladys Achenbach, b. 1903. Her parents were Edward Achenbach, b. Feb. 1858 and Myrtle (unknown maiden name), b. Feb. 1868. I do have limited information going back in time with this family, but if any of the above sounds interesting and you would like more, let me know.
