Hi, I am looking for the McKean lines who migrated from Ireland C.1765 (Thomas)who married Anna McHenry.(c.1751) and his son Thomas (c.1786) also migrated from Ireland and married Elizabeth LeBlanc(c.1785) from Canada. The information I have is that both Thomas and Elizabeth died in Baltimore, Maryland. James Philip McKean (1805) was the son of Thomas(1786) and I have him born in Baltimore and died in Washington, D.C.He married Harriet Shields. James son, William Shields(C.1849)who married Ann Elizabeth Burch (1850)was born in Washington DC as was his son, William Shields McKean Jr.(1870) who married Emma Lucile Ackerman(1875) William Jr and Emma were my Great-Grandparents on my Mother's side.My Grandfather, Harry Alleyne McKean(1898) was the son of William Jr and Emma. My Grandfather married Dorothy Dixon Hake(1899) I am also trying to locate the lines for the females, Burch, Shields, Ackerman,Dixon, and Leblanc. There must be some family out there. I have been able to connect to two distant relatives on the McKean side but they do not have info as far back as I need it.

Stephen (Geo.Stephen) Ackerman m. Eva Maria Brau/Baum. In the 1950 edition of the Ackerman Family by Claire Ackerman Vliet you will find them. This book is readily available on the Internet. I updated that book in 1991. If you look up this book and have further questions, email me direct. xyz123mlub@baltworld.com. I also have Diehl and Teel ancestors. Frederick Diel/Diehl was the immigrant 1722-1813 and buried in Plainfield Cemetery, Northampton Co. He had son Johann "Simon Jacob" Diehl from which I am descended. As you know, the name is Diehl, Teel, Thiel. I do not have your William Diel in my data base.

Hello!
I'm working on a history of the DIEHLs of Bucks Co. As you know, in the will of GEO. STEPHEN “AUKERMAN” of Bucks Co., probated in Philadelphia Co. 28 MAY 1770, the executor was “son-in-law WILLIAM DILE.”
STEPHEN ACKERMAN appears on the shiplist of the “St. Andrew,” arriving at Philadelphia 27 OCT 1738, making his mark on the oaths. Interestingly, also on the “St. Andrew” is a FRANZ HERMAN DIELE/THIEL, of whom we know nothing. Presumably the same STEPHEN ACKERMAN filed land warrants on three parcels in Bucks Co. WILLIAM DIEL completed the patenting on two of these parcels. On one parcel, named “DIEL DEVISE” the land survey states the land was a devise (i.e., willed by) from STEPHEN ACKERMAN to WILLIAM DIEL, proving the link. I see some postings on Ancestry of a birth date for ANNA CATHARINA ACKERMAN, future wife of WILLIAM DIEHL as 1 MCH 1746 (of course without source citation). Do you have any idea how reliable that birth date is? Or a source for that date? There appears to be TWO WILLIAM and CATHARINE DIEHLS in Bucks Co. A reliable birth date for ANNA CATHARINE ACKERMAN would really help sort them out. Many thanks!

Ed Deal
Researching Southeast PA Diehls
dealgen AT aol.com

Peter Garret Ackerman (1849-1902) New York City

I’m searching for the parents of Peter Garret Ackerman, b 1849 in New York City. About 1875, Peter married Sarah Ahearn. He died in 1902 on Staten Island. I first found Peter (age 11), his brother Edward (age 15) and sisters Sarah (age 14) & Martha (age 3) in 1860 (Manhattan Ward 16, ED 2, page 1035). They are living with who I assumed was their father, “Garet”, a widower, b NY, age 40.

In 1870, on Staten Island (Richmond county, Westfield, page 399B), I found Garret (“Jas”, age 60), Edward (age 24), Sarah (age 22), Peter (age 20), Mathew (age 13) and William (age 2). Since Garret is a widower, it’s not clear who is the father of Mathew & William. And, if it’s Garret, why is Mathew not with the family in 1860?

In 1880, Peter is married to Sarah & living on Staten Island (Richmond county, ED 307, page 321A). With them are “Garry” Ackerman (age 60) and “Eddie” (age24).

Then I tried to find the family in earlier censuses, and that’s when it got confusing. In 1850 (New York Ward 16, ED 3, page 301B), I found Samuel R. Ackerman (age 31) married to Sarah (age 25) with Edwin A (6), Sarah (4), Peter (1¾), and Phoebe J (17). It was tricky to find him, though, because his name was transcribed as “Samuel rd Kerman”. In 1840, Samuel R Ackerman is in NYC Ward 16 with 2 males ages 5-9, 3 females under 5 and 2 females 30-39. So... are Samuel & Garret the same man?

I found a death record for a Sarah Ackerman, 41 years old, who died in Manhattan on 11 May 1869. But there is no other information, so I can’t be sure this is the woman living with Samuel in 1850. And it also begs the question, where was she in 1860?

If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate the feedback. By the way, there is a similarly named family in Bergen county, NJ, but I’m almost sure they are a separate family.

Regards,
Patti Mikkelsen

Horace B. Leach was still living with parents on the 1930 census, 34 yrs old, single, auto mechanic.
Maud apperantly passed away before 1910.
Augusta reports having given birth to 2 children, 1 living on the 1910 census, assume Maud died before she reached the age of 18.
I am a descendant of Carl Anton (Charles) Ackerman. He was a bro. to Balthasar (Baltus). These two bros., and two of the sisters came to Amer. The sisters were Veronica Ackerman Brost and Rosa Ackerman Tombers also spelled(Tompers) 5 other siblings remained in Ger. but some of their children came to Amer. If any of those 5 siblings did come to Amer., I haven't picked up on it yet, but would love to know.

Perhaps you already have this info but will provide anyway.
Otto married Magdelena Heinen and had a son Jerome born 3-1-1909.
C.A.William married Margaret Rowan, their children are Rosemary 1901-1994, Magna 1907-1989, Willard 1909-1990,he married Mildred Feely and Raymond 1900-1965, he married Madeline Best.
Louis married May A."Mayme" Ressler, their children are John 1910-1910, Mildred 1911-1913, Verne 1913-1928, Cecelia 1918-, James Clement 1915-1981, he married Elizabeth Gephart.
Louisa married William Ferber, their children are Louis 1896-, Carl 1898-, Leon 1900-, Elmer 1905-, Maria 1908-, Myna 1907-, Lloyd 1910-.
I think Margaret died around 1876, Mary and Cecelia were single. I do not know who Rose married. Mathilda was still single in her 30's. Anna AKA Lena, do not know who she married, or if she married. I had heard that one of the daug's of Balthasar and Magdelena died of unfortunate circumstances.

I'm looking for info on Elizabeth (also called Eliza)Ackerman, b. @1826, married Thomas Hughes Feb. 10, 1852. She had a son William P. Hughes (my greatgrandfather). Would appreciate info on her parents. Her other children were Sarah Elizabeth, James Wesley, and John. I understand her husband, Thomas, died in the Civil War. Why don't we ask these questions of our family members while they are still around???

My fiance is from the Ackerman line. His mother recently moved and found something wonderful! A book written between 1905-1920. It's the original one. I have already scanned it into digital format (PDF and JPG), however the book is too large to send via email. I am currently working on transferring everything to Word format.

My fiance was so excited when we found this! He wants to share it with anyone who is connected to this family. I should have it completed in the next day or so. It is titled "The history of the Ackerman Family." There are stories that go back to the 1600's in the book, but mainly focus on the 1700-1800 time frames.

Looking at this thread, I already see names that are mentioned in this book. It gives histories including places they lived, churches, and careers.

If you are interested, please email me and I will share once I am finished.

Kimberly_Davis73@live.com

WINTER HAVEN, FL: Glen D Ackerman, 80, formerly of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away on September 12th, 2011 after an extended illness.

He was born December 17, 1930 in Kent, Ohio (Portage County) to Frank G. and India (Brown) Ackerman, who preceded him in death, as well as many brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his two sisters, Midge (Stanley) Ellenberger and Dorothy (Robert) Eckerman and extended family.

He was a veteran of the US Army and a Korean War Vet and spent his life doing what he loved to do best, mingling with people, and being an award winning salesman.
His biggest passion and delight… was his seven beautiful daughters! Being the father of "his girls", he delighted in their laughter, humor, orneriness, cooking, fishing, and love of life. Glen's pride was boundless when it came to the girls, and his most treasured item was his family picture. We are all so proud of our father and know that he will be deeply missed. We could never walk away without hearing, "I love you from the bottom of my heart" and giving us our 'Three Kisses'.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Susan P. Jensen of Mansfield, Ohio, Michelle and Kenneth Whelpley Jr. of Winter Haven, FL, Glenda and Douglas Williams of Mocksville, NC, Jennifer Perry (preceded her father in death), Rachel and Alan Hott of Oxford, NC, Kim and Anthony Castelvetere of Lexington, Ohio, and Janeen and Robert Cadwallader of Dublin, Ohio.

Glen is also survived by the love of his life and the mother of his seven daughters, Laura D (Cameron) Ackerman.

Glen had an extensive network of 42 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren that he adored and was very proud of.

He was preceded in death by special family members as well. His beautiful "Jenipum', his daughter, Jennifer Leann Perry, and her son, Christopher Archer; also, his sons-in-law, Ralph R. Jensen and Edward S. Rogers.

The Ackerman family will receive friends and family for a "Celebration of Life" ceremony, Sunday October 2nd, 2011 at 4 p.m. at CitiChurch, located at 541 St Rt. 97 W, Bellville, Ohio.

Military services at the Veterans Honor Grounds in the Mansfield Cemetery, by Richland County, Ohio Joint Veterans burial Squad. Pastor Rob Yanok will be officiating.

Published in the News Journal, Mansfield, Ohio on September 25, 2011

I have a death record that says his parents were named John and Catherine. Help?

Ackermans from old Washington Township, NJ

I am doing research on the old families of Emerson, NJ, when the area was known as the community of Kinderkamack in the larger political entity of Washington Twp. I am looking for any information on the descendants of the Ackermans who lived here in the 19th century. Specifically, anything on Henry Z. (born circa 1823, wife Ellen); Henry D. (b. circa 1819, wife Sophia); Albert (b. circa 1854, wife Mary); Peter (b. circa 1849, wife Ellen); John H. (b. circa 1847, wife Margret).
