Anna Bertha Acosta born in or around 1933

I am trying to find information on Bertha Acosta (aka Anna Bertha Acosta). She was born on or around 1933 and gave birth in 1967 in Apatzingan, Michoacan. I was told she passed away within a year or so of her son’s birth. Her parent’s names are Manuel Acosta and Ma. Dolores Ruiz.

I am also hoping to find information on the father of Bertha Acosta's son. His name is Enrique Morfin, born on or around 1935. His parent’s names are Arnulfo Morfin and Maria Cisneros.

I have put up queries on the Web in both Spanish and English, and checked the LDS sites as well as countless others. The extended family information above came from Vital Records in Michoacan with a disclaimer of, "We don't have anymore information."

Any other suggestions on how I might find more information on her or Enrique would be greatly appreciated. My family would especially like to pay our respects to Anna Bertha Acosta at her place of rest.

Thank you.

Gracias.
I have a concept, If I am correct you are right on about the lineage and where the Acosta's came from, and my concept guides you from Texas straight back to where Lorenzo Acosta was married in Baton Rouge, la in 1823. Now, I cannot email you, so its up to you to give me a shout on the email. I wish I could promise you this is complete, this fits to a tee... mareleigh@yahoo.com

My grandfather's middle name is also Acosta. He was born in Lingayen, Pangasinan. He however settled in Mangatarem, Pangasinan. His name is Federico Holanday y Acosta. He looked very much like a Spanish mestizo. He was fluent in Spanish. I keep a family tree from me to the previous 5 generations - the line of the Acostas.

I also am from the Acosta line in Nacogdoches. One of my grandmothers was Reducinda (or Lucinda) Acosta married to Justo Lorenzo Mansolo (son of Melchior Mansolo who was the son of Tomas Mansolo).

The Mansolo's married with the Arriola family (I believe Telesfora Mansolo married Guadalupe Arriola?) and I believe some married into the Molanders line also.

I would love to have more information about the Acosta line - we know nothing of this grandmother.

I have spoken with a Mr. Arriola who is a barber in Nacogdoches and when the weather cools off he said he would take us to look at the original Mansolo land. I hope his health is still good and we can go soon.

Please e-mail me if you would like to share any info. Thanks. Liz

Hi CJ,

From what my family has told me about our names it originated from Spain. Our ancestors surnames were De La Costa since they lived and worked on the coast of the Mediterranean. As time passed, and some of the families immigrated further south to Italy it was shortened to Da Costa and during the West Indies colonization to Acosta. I hope this helps you.

My ancestors from Caracas with the surname "Acosta" include Jose Eusebio Acosta Pena (1824-1882). As far as I know, he had 3 offspring: Corrina Acosta (who married Julio Felipe Sarria de Hurtado) and lived in Caracase; Josephina Acosta (who married Thomas Alberto Falcon) and settled in New York City, and Maria Acosta (who married and settled in Peru). Do any of these names sound familiar. Perhaps the 2 brothers you are referring to are siblings of these women or the decendents of these siblings.
Acosta and Basquez Families/San Francisco de Conchos/Chihuahua

This is what I have on my Acosta and Basquez ancestors from San Francisco de Conchos, and Santa Rosalia de Camargo, Chihuahua.

Of course I'd like to interact with anyone related to me, or researching the same family and area.

19 year-old Jose Pedro Basquez Olguin from San Francisco de Conchos, married 16 year-old Maria Trinidad Acosta Delgado from nearby Santa Rosalia on 8 February 1854 in San Francisco de Conchos.

Their neighboring hometowns are within the same municipality of Camargo, with Santa Rosalia serving as the county seat. Santa Rosalia later being renamed Santa Rosalia de Camargo.

In one document we have Maria Juana Acosta and daughter Maria del Pilar Vasquez de Acosta as being born in the Valle de Zaragoza. This was a name applied to the area in 1864 in honor of General Ignacio Zaragoza who defeated the French forces. Previously, the area was called Pilar de Conchos.

Pilar de Conchos, San Francisco de Conchos and the Conchos River are named after the native Conchos Indians.
There are no known Conchos left. The Spanish enslaved them, and the very few that survived decided to join their neighboring tribe hundreds of years ago, the alike Jumanos who were very friendly with them.

This might be the kind of Indian Maria del Pilar Vasquez was, and that we retain in our mtDNA.

I have not found Maria Trinidad Acosta’s birth record, but suspect her complete name was Maria Juana de la Trinidad Acosta Delgado.
If Maria Trinidad was 16 years old at the time of her marriage as her wedding record indicates, that would give us a birth year for her of 1838. Pedro was born three years before her.

Pedro’s father was Eugenio Basquez who was 25 years old when he married Maria Guadalupe Olguin on May 25, 1821 in San Francisco de Conchos.
Maria Guadalupe was also born in the same town.

Eugenio and Maria Guadalupe had many children over a long stretch of years, starting perhaps with Francisco de Pablo Vicente Basquez Olguin on April 20, 1822 in San Francisco de Conchos, followed nine months later by Maria Jesus de los Dolores Basques Olguin on January 19, 1823 in San Francisco de Conchos.

Then came Maria Josefa Blasa Basquez Olguin on February 3, 1830 in San Francisco de Conchos, and Maria Josefa Biviana Basquez Olguin on December 2, 1831 in San Francisco de Conchos, then almost exactly a year later came Jose Guadalupe Basques Olguin on December 13, 1832 in San Francisco de Conchos.

Next came our direct ancestor, Jose Pedro Basquez Olguin on January 21, 1835 in San Francisco de Conchos.
And finally twenty years after their first child, Jose Ysidro Rito Basques Olguin who was baptized May 22, 1842 in Santa Rosalia.
Eugenio Basquez’s parents were Feliciano Vasquez Dominguez and Ana Josefa Fonseca Flores, who were born around 1785 in San Francisco de Conchos.

Feliciano’s parents were Juan Antonio Vasquez born in the 1760s in San Francisco de Conchos, and Barbara Romana Dominguez who was born on March 3, 1762, barely across the border from Chihuahua in Villa Ocampo, Durango.

Ana Josefa Fonseca’s parents were Domingo Fonseca and Josefa Flores born in the 1760s in San Francisco de Conchos.
Maria Trinidad Acosta’s parents seem to be Pedro Acosta, perhaps of Santa Rosalia and Felipa Delgado, perhaps of Meoqui.

All this data needs further research and corroboration, but I am reasonably confident that they will stand the test.

There’s a new project at Family Tree devoted to mtDNA Haplogroup B2.
B2 is one of the four major matrilineal Native American lineages.
And the only one that stretches across the Pacific Ocean to embrace Polynesia and areas as far a field as Madagascar.

I have created this project because I have found so little research on this fascinating lineage. Today there are more questions than answers.
Just what is the connection between the peoples of the Americas and that of Oceania? Was America peopled from Southeast Asia via the Pacific Isles? Someday this incredible journey maybe fully documented, and understood.

This project is one humble step in that direction. A shout at the Eurocentric Genetic establishment, that we’re not white, but we matter, we want our ancestry researched, too.

I’ve written to journals and asked them to write investigative articles on this important lineage, but have not received responses.
If you’re mtDNA Haplogroup B2 I invite you to add your test results to this new project. Let the Ivy League geneticists in their ivory towers know we are here, we care, we spend, we are a force to be reckoned with. Ignore B2 at your own peril!
http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.aspx?code=A92491

My maternal (Rodriguez, Contreras, Montoya, Acosta, Porras, Vasquez, Serecedes, Cobos, Corral, Olguin, Gallardo, Robeldo, Najera, Suares, Caballero, Gutierrez, Caro, Aranda) home page:

http://www.genealogy.com/users/a/l/d/Ernie-Alderete-Monterey...

My paternal (Romo, Ramirez, Gonzales, Ybarra, Rodriguez, Veles, Rangel, Moctezuma) homepage:

http://www.genealogy.com/users/a/l/d/Ernie-Alderete/

My Moctezuma DNA Project:
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/moctezuma

My Alderete DNA Project:
http://www.familytreedna.com/(hcojjivgekjvu155hef2gy55)/publ...

My Moctezuma Forum:
http://forums.delphiforums.com/moctezuma1

I am new to this and thinking of signing up. My last name is Acosta. My father's name is Daniel Adam Acosta who was born in Cuba when his parents lived there as missionaries. His father's name was Primativo Acosta (minister) and his mothers name was Elizabeth Luella __(?)____. I will try to fill that blank in later. My father who is 82 is still living today, so if anyone would like to find out any information that may possible relate to him, please let me know and I will try to get answers from him. He also has 3 siblings (Salomie - passed away several years ago; Eunice who resides in the San Bernadina Valley in CA; and David who disappeared years ago). If anyone out there has any news of my Uncle David I'd love to hear it. My grandmother looked for him for years.
