Hi, I am working on my family tree and am looking for information on my wife's family. She has never met her father, Robert Acosta, which has led me to this board. Here's what we do know about him. He lived in the Del Rio, TX area in the late seventies/early eighties. He was a truck driver. Possibly had a sister name Margarita and a father whose name sounds like Alfonso. I also know he would travel to Carrizo Springs, TX and Uvalde, TX to visit my wife's mother. He could have been born in Mexico and definitely had family there, as he would visit them. I believe he was born around 1960.

My grandma is the illegitimate child of a Francisco Acosta from Chihuahua who immigrated to El Paso, Tx. He abandoned my great-grandmother when he found out she was pregnant. Her name was Maria Elivira Medina. Francisco was probably born around 1905. My grandmother was born in El Paso in 1930. I see that there is a Rosalea listed as the daughter of Pascual and Maria - this might have been the mother of the Francisco I am looking for. Any information would help :)

     Maria Antonio deCarmen Ramirez (1791 - 1863)
is my 3rd great grandmother.
There are several generations of Ramirez's in my tree in the 1700's. My maternal grandmother's maiden name was ACOSTA. Tracing back that line leads to RAMIREZ. The tree is named KNIGHT. The Acosta line traces back to the Canary Islands, mainly Tenerife there. They settled in Louisiana. Place names that are common are Donalsonville, Plattenville, Paincourtville, Louisiana, and Assumption Parish (=county), and Ascension Parish.
BTW, I found the parents of Napoleon Acosta: Matier Acosta and his wife, Margaret.

Seeking information on Napoleon (b.1856), Marie (b.1865), and Theresa (b.abt 1871) Acosta.

Napoleon and Marie were married in 1883 and were my great-grandparents. Napoleon and Marie had nine children, one of whom was my grandmother, Bernadette Acosta Blanchard, born in 1887. I can trace Napoleon and Marie on the 1900 census in Assumption Parish (=county), Louisiana. They are absent from the 1910 census. In 1920, Marie is listed as a WIDOW in Assumption Parish, and there is a Napoleon with a WIFE named Theresa in Donaldsonville, LA, in neighboring Ascension Parish, LA. From the names of children listed, I think it is the same Napoleon. I cannot find a maiden name or a first marriage name for Theresa Acosta.

Re: Relatives of Bertha Acosta

I don't know if there is a connection here, but my maternal great-grandfather, Napoleon Acosta, (b.abt.1861) by his second wife Theresa (b. abt 1871) in Louisiana, had a daughter named Alberth, who was 13 on the 1920 census record of Theresa Acosta and of Napoleon Acosta -- town of Donalsonville, Ascension Parish (= County), Louisiana. Prior to Donaldsonville, Napoleon lived with Marie in Assumption Parish, Louisiana.
My maternal grandmother was Bernadette Acosta, daughter of Napoleon and Marie Acosta. She had three half-siblings, and I think Theresa was the second wife of Napoleon. I have not yet found a death date for Napoleon, but on the 1920 census Marie is listed as a widow in Assumption Parish and Theresa is listed as Napoleon's wife in Ascension Parish, Donaldsonville. I cannot get the 1910 census, and I don't know when Marie died either. It would make sense if Marie was divorced and not widowed, but I can't find any record of that. Happy Hunting, Kathy Knight

I don't know if I'm related. My maternal grandmother was Bernadette Acosta, daughter of Napoleon and Marie Acosta in Ascension or Assumption Parish (County), Louisiana, USA. The Acosta's that I'm related to trace back to the Canary Islands, and thus Spain. There are also "Islenos" in St.Bernard Parish, Louisiana, USA.

You can find some Acosta's in the USA census records. You can trace back my grandmother, Bernadette Acosta, in my KNIGHT family tree. Kathy Knight

I am researching the family of Juan Isidro Acosta and Encarnanacion Soto. Primarily, the son Jose Maria del Pilar Acosta and who he married. Also, what became of daughter Concepcion Acosta. Does anyone have them in their family tree?

My roots are all completely in the La Junta de los Rios valley and share a lot of the names in your tree: Rodriguez, Ramirez, Montoya, Gonzales. I have seen marriage records for some of my people all the way back to 1822, where for example Ygnacio Rodriguez married Encarnacion Escabanas and her parents Ermengildo Escabanas and Maria Ursula Marquez were witnesses. Do you have any linkages to these folks?
Also, I have a GGgrandfather named Antonio Peres, orphan, whose father was named Bernardino Peres and mother Concepcion Balenzuela who married another orphan from Cuchillo Parado Candelaria Juares in 1879. Any connections here?
But what I am most desperate to figure out was the notation in that marriage record that indicated that Antonio Peres was from the "Pueblo Follonico al occidente de esta villa desde chico." There is no such place name, so I'm wondering if this is a reference to Apaches. I would greatly appreciate any light you can share on this term.

Anna Bertha Acosta born in or around 1933

I am trying to find information on Bertha Acosta (aka Anna Bertha Acosta). She was born on or around 1933 and gave birth in 1967 in Apatzingan, Michoacan. I was told she passed away within a year or so of her son’s birth. Her parent’s names are Manuel Acosta and Ma. Dolores Ruiz.

I am also hoping to find information on the father of Bertha Acosta's son. His name is Enrique Morfin, born on or around 1935. His parent’s names are Arnulfo Morfin and Maria Cisneros.

I have put up queries on the Web in both Spanish and English, and checked the LDS sites as well as countless others. The extended family information above came from Vital Records in Michoacan with a disclaimer of, "We don't have anymore information."

Any other suggestions on how I might find more information on her or Enrique would be greatly appreciated. My family would especially like to pay our respects to Anna Bertha Acosta at her place of rest.

Thank you.

Gracias.
Thanks for the information. My mother is Guadalupe Acosta-Lumabas from Calasiao, Pangasinan. Her parents were Bernardo Acosta and Celedonia Ocampo. My lolo's family is actually in Rabon(?), La Union. We have some relations with the Ocampos and the Virays.
