hello,
i'm looking for information about my ggrandfather alonzo acton. i do know that he was irish. i believe alonzo's grandfather john acton emigrated to ontario, canada from ireland about 1840. alonzo's parents were robert and marie jane holliday acton. i would really love to know where the name 'alonzo' originated from as well as where in ireland john acton came from. any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you email directly with what info you do have I will try to help you. There are 2 Robert's in my family tree and my gggrandfather came from Castlebar, County Mayo, Ireland. It is hard to get info out of Ireland alot of their records were destroyed. My line is William, Abraham, James, Arthur, Arthur Raye, Harold, Me.

Hi, first time on this site but i stumbled across your query, i'm not quite sure if it was my ggg-granfather or my gg-granfather but one of the two was from Castlebar and moved to galway sometime in the 1800's (sorry for being so vague), my granfather has spent years gathering information on our family tree - If you want to forward any questions about the family in Ireland I'm sure I could get all the answers you need from my granfather and he would be more than happy to help as he has a wealth of info on the family history and would love to discover more from your side of the pond also,

I'm sure my g-grandfather's (alonzo acton), dad was Robert Acton who came from Ireland in the mid 1800's... i would have to check the date with my sister first... and first settled in the 'Smith Falls' area of Ontario.
