Yvonda,
I found my postcard and it said on the message side of the card-Mr.& Mrs. W.R. Acton Miller S.D. L.W.Acton age 57 Apr 13.
This has me confused. It is Levi. Maybe it was a card William Riley Acton intended to send to someone. I so want to find out about WR.Acton as he was my grandpas,"Uncle Will".I love the info about the Indian tribes and all. The Actons have such a wonderful history.I am going to try to send some pictures. One is a portrait of Levi and Martha his 2nd wife. Also will try to send those real old pictures. The man by himself i am not sure who he is.The picture was very old and paper. The second i am interpreting to be Levis parents.Hope someone might know.Debbie

Debbie,
Yes, that is the same photo that I have of Levi. Only mine is an oval shape around him. But same hat and mustache too. So now, when I find mine, I will note that yours said he was 57 at that time. Cool! This is so much fun! Out of all the ones in that family, I took an interest in Levi more. I guess because I had that photo. Mine has writing on the back too, but until I find it, I can't remember what it said. I think it was sent to someone. I've been transcribing over 200 letters that my Mom had on her Mother's side of the family. I've learned so much about them because of reading all of that. But I have wished a thousand times that it would have been letters on the Acton side, because that is where my biggest interest is. And that is because William Cornelius and my George Washington Acton's mother (Mary Melissa Padgett) was said to be of the Iroquois Indians. They were a Nation made up of 5 or 6 tribes. But then again, Most all of the kids were born in Prince George's County (Some in Charles Co.) Maryland and lived at Piscataway, Maryland. And there is a Piscataway Tribe. So she could have been a member of the Piscataway too. This information I obtained from some memoirs written by Lulu Likes in our family. She was told about this (about her grandmother being Native) and she was told what her Native name ment in English. Lots of people have William Cornelius and George Washington Acton's father as the wrong name. I don't know where they get it, but they do. So ya have to watch all of that out there. It is confusing enough without those who are handing out wrong info. We all will do it unknown to us. And they just may not know. Yvonda

This is the postcard that you have the same image of Levi.It says age 57 i believe on the back. I will be sending more things soon. I know i have more i want to share. Thanks again for everything!Debbie

Debbie,
The next two are obits from Noble Co, Indiana Gen Web site (Whan Collection)- of William Cornelius Acton and William H. Acton. That is by far the very best GenWeb site I've ever seen. And I've been in a bunch of them. Two or three ladies went into the county court house and transcribed everything in that court house that they were allowed to do. Took several years. All of that is under the Whan Collection thou. You won't see any of that unless you go in there.
Yvonda PS. Levi and wife's headstone is online too. I would need your e-mail to send it I think. Maybe not.

Debbie,
This is a photo taken at Clarence Likes House. That would have been in Noble County, Indiana I believe. From Lt. to right - Cora Likes Strouse holding her son Ray Strouse. Grandma Acton is Mary Jane Acton Likes. Next is Ellen Acton Price and next to her, her husbanc Willie Price. Next is Jimmie Likes (Brother to Joseph Likes), then Pricilla Likes, wife of Jimmie. Next is John Wycoff. Next (my Great Grandpa) Joseph Likes, next is Caroline Acton Wycoff (sister to Levi Acton), next is Homer Likes.
Looks like a Turkey in the middle of the table, and a big cake behind it. After I post this, can look at it better to see what all is there. Check out the photo hanging on the wall in the back, how it is hanging down. I guess because they had such tall ceilings, they did that. Also I can see how the wallpaper is coming off the walls. ha funny. Yvonda

So very excited to get some more things out to share! The picture I am thinking about is in an oval on a picture postcard. I want to look and see who he sent it to. I will keep pulling out things that I still need to scan. Those 2 real old Acton pictures I attached to my Acton family tree under Levi's profile. I can attach them to a message. I continue to look forward to sharing. I have some great things thanks to Granpa Cecil-grandson of Levi. He loved family and family photos. Guess that's where I get my love of those things! Will send more tonight or tommorrow. Thanks again,Debbie

Debbie,
This next copy is out of the Roster of Ohio Troops in the Civil War. 3 Actons are listed. William Cornelius Acton is one of them. I have no idea who the Joseph P Acton is. And I thought "maybe" the George Acton might be William's son? Not sure. Unfortunately, they also named alot of George's and William's in the Acton Family too. Yvonda

Debbie,
This first attachment is a genelogy of the William Cornelius Acton's family. Some info on it is wrong, and I will tell you the corrections here on what I know to be wrong. There are so much wrong info on the web that people put on there. I try my best to comfirm what I can by obtaining documents. But some are impossible to find too.
The corrections are: On William C. Acton at the top, He was born in Piscataway, Maryland, Prince George's Co. and his Father's name was Henry Acton. (Beware, there are about 8 Henry Acton's that I know of) (And not many of them show middle names to tell them apart. I go by birth dates)
His Mother's name: Mary Padgett (Melissa) (Pretty Flower by the Water was her Native name) (I've searched to prove her Tribe, and haven't been able to prove it yet).
My George Washington Acton is a brother to this William Cornelius Acton.
The rest of the info on this is correct as far as I know.
Debbie, Those pictures are great too! Yeah, I really love to share what I have with other people, cause I know what it means to me to see photos that other people have too. Did You notice the big bump on Levi's head in the photo of him holding the baby? Wow, it is really large. I'll wait to see your photo and then I will know if it is the same one. Mine is inside an oval frame around him. And it is just him by himself. And you still have the Acton Grandparents pic yet too? I found some things that I will send to you also. 10 different things. Records mainly all on William Cornelius Acton and Polly Walker Acton. One photo too. Yvonda

Only much younger in yours. I've never seen a photo with their sons before. So I wouldn't know which one is which. But we can maybe find them somewhere else. And on here, they really blow up nice and big! I was amazed! I did a "save as" to this photo and saved it in "my pictures" and will go look to make sure it saved ok. Thanks! Hope you send more! I'd love to see more. By the way, do you know of any people in the family with the last name of Striker? I have a few photos that I don't know who they are. That was one of them.
Debbie, This is a copy of the newspaper write up for Levi Walker Acton when he died in Wakefield, Nebraska. Did you know that his middle name is Walker because his Mother's maiden name was Walker? That was a common thing that they did back then. If you can't blow any of these up enough to print them nice or read, let me know, and we will need to exchange e-mail addresses. Then you would be able to. And I will look today again to see if I can find that photo of Levi. I have another copy of a geneology on William C. Acton and Mary Magdalene Walker's family & dates. Would you like that too? Yvonda

Debbie, this next photo is of Martha Melissa Acton Court, and her daughter Lillian Court (sitting). This is the photo that I think has the photo on the shelf above them, and may be George Washington Acton. So the photo you have of the Acton Grandparents, might help me to determine if the two men look alike. I sure hope so! This had to have been taken at Christmas time because of the shelf draped with Christmas linen, and popcorn strung up by the photo. Yvonda

So I thought I'd include it and you might know who it is. Yvonda
It also says that this photo was in the Joseph and Mary Jane Acton Likes photo collection.

I know how to attach multiples, but the writing with each one, I thought might be better to keep them separate. Yvonda
This next photo is the Sisters to Joseph Likes. Lt. is Catherine Jane Likes Childs - Standing is Mary Likes Acton (Levi Walker Acton's wife) and Rt. is Sarah Ann Likes Rhodes. Taken by WmKay in Wakefield, Nebraska I believe the two Sisters were visiting Mary and Levi and had their pic taken together.

Just can't find it right quick as I'd like to. So I will keep looking and it will show up soon.
I'm going to post some other things for now. Cecil was a great man who really loved to travel. He kept a picture book at my Moms house . The paper picture may have had writing the other picture just had great great grandparents Actons. I need to post them because somebody may know the exact names. They are the ancestors in the line with Cecil,Erman and Levi. I know people will enjoy what I do have. Thank you so much and I will get busy getting these pictures up and info. Look forward to hearing from you again soon!

And Levi would have been an Uncle to her. Cause Levi's Father, would have been a brother to my George Washington Acton.
So awesome to hear from you! I don't get many replies, but I thought I'd take a shot on here to see what might pop up. Ya never know. ha. I have a picture of Levi Acton. Is this the same Levi that went to Nebraska and lived? That's the one I have. I don't know anything about Cecil. That will be interesting. I will try to post some pics now cause I think I have them on my computer now. If not, I will hunt them and post them for you. Does the pic that you think might be George Washington Acton, have writing on the back of it? I was lucky, to have writing on most of my pics on the back. Now I need to figure out how to post pics too. I don't see an attachment thing down at the bottom of this. Oh yes, it says attach a file. Click on that, then find where your pics are stored and I think use "open" to place them in. Yvonda I found one pic that I will send now. We may want to even exchange e-mail addresses for the pics. We'll see

Hi,
I think it is very possible that i may have a picture of him I am in his family line. My grandpa Cecil Acton has a blood line that i have researched and traced from many sources that i can find back that far. The original picture is even a paper picture so it goes back many generations. It could be him.My great great grandfather was Levi Acton and i have one picture of his parents. My grandpa Cecil Acton did have possession of these pictures. I would happy to post what i have. It would be so nice for you to post the picture you have and any Acton info. I will get organized and post what i have. It is so amazing to talk to people who descend from the Acton family. I am new to Ancestry but it is wonderful to share info and photos with others.I hope to figure out in the next few days how to post my photos and hope the photos are helpful. I know for a fact they are Actons in this blood line. Hope to hear back from soon.

I'm a descendant of the Acton's of Alabama. It would be interesting to trace the history all the way back to England. My great-great grandmother was Ida Belle Acton. Her father was Stephen Vincent Acton who was married to Lougenia Morris. There is a lot of information about the Acton's if you look online for the Shelby County Historical Society, Inc. Museum & Archives. You can write them and ask for information.

My mother passed away in January of 2010. I'm still going through all of her stuff, but I've found lots of beautiful photographs and newspaper articles about her family (her mother is an acton descendant). I found an absolutely beautiful photograph/portrait of my great-great grandmother Ida Belle Acton. I always wondered what she looked like. Going through my mom's stuff is a treasure hunt, lot's of information.

I would like to trace the family back through england because I hope to visit there one day.
I know about getting in and out of genealogy over the years. It has been a while since I have looked at the Acton family. Nancy Acton, daug. of Aaron and Louisa Bailey Acton. Nancy married Samual Newton Hannah on 4 Dec 1860 in Shelby Co.Ala. He owned a sawmill there but the Yanks ran him out to Miss. and Tex. after The War. Louisa died in Blount co. Ala. I don't know where Aaron died:est.1845-1902. I'm not sure what I was looking for but if you have any Acton tombstone pictures that would be a help. Sam died in Sulphur Springs, TX and Nancy is buried in Waco, TX. She only has a foot marker with initials on her grave with other Hannahs. I need to get a head stone for her. Thanks for writing. Linda Hannah

10 years later, I read your post. Are you still looking for this cemetery? It is in the back yard of one of my grandmother's friends off of Caldwell Mill Rd, south of Valleydale Road. I took pictures of all of the tombstones from there if you are still in need of the information.
Jeremy Martin

Yes, good to hear from you cousin! My George Washington Acton was a brother to the William Acton you mentioned. I'd love to see what you have in the way of photos. Do they have names on the photos?
Yes, all those Actons are somehow related to each other. Many of them were brothers, and cousins. They all pretty much came to Noble County from Morrow County, Ohio. And some other counties in Ohio. But from Maryland to begin with.

Hi, a quick note, just in case this might help, my mother always told me that my great grandmother from her mother's family had been taken in by an Acton family in Albion , Indiana, possibly because of being an orphan although she knew no more about what relationship she was to the Actons. Now lately, since I have been seeing her, she's 87 yrs, I have been looking at all the old photos of the Actons, and have found some interesting photos of the Actons in Noble County. According to census records -1870- I have researched, my great grandmother Emma Acton born 1867 lived with a 'Wash Acton' and his wife 'Sarah Work Acton' with two younger siblings 'Norman 2 & William 12 mo'. According to Obituary records, Sarah died soon after at ~23 yrs :-(.

Now George Washington 'Wash' Acton was a son of William & Mary Acton, in the 1850 census, and marriage records say he married a Sarah Work in ~1865.
Now the 1880 census shows Emma or 'Emily Flora Acton 14' living next to a Levi Acton but not associated with his family. And a Norman 12 living with an Ephraim Acton some place else. Do not yet know what became of little William. A George Acton 43 is listed as living with his parents William and Mary Acton at another different address.
who knows what was really going on but George apparently died in 1886 :-(, perhaps of a broken heart?, we'll never know. I have no more time for now but it would seem we are distantly related if you are from the Noble county, Ind Acton line. Keep in touch , Cousin John. ;-)
