Hi Alyson.
I have an ADEY family in my tree, way back in 1851 census. They lived in Wednesfield and were keymakers & locksmiths.

Lived in Rookery Street, Wednesfield at time of 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881 and 1891 and 1901 censuses.
Here is all the info i have starting in 1851- perhaps you may recognise something.

1851:
John ADEY/1803/Wednesfield/Head/Cabinet Lockmaker
Elizabeth ADEY/1805/Bristol/Wife
William ADEY/1823/Wednesfield/Son/Cabinet Lockmaker
Benjamin ADEY/1835/Wednesfield/Son/Keymaker
Samuel ADEY/1832/Wednesfield/Son/Padlock Maker
Joseph ADEY/1840/Wednesfield/Son
Joseph GULLEY/1809/Birmingham/Bro-In-Law/Keymaker
Jane GULLEY/1806/Wednesfield/Sister
Charles GULLEY/1830/Wednesfield/Nephew

My connection is that Jane Gulley (nee ADEY) is my 3x Great Grandmother.

Here is info from censuses about some of Jane and John's other siblings:

Samuel ADEY (1832) married Julia ______ of Wednesfield, Children: Elizabeth Ann (1858), John Joshua (1860), Laura (1864), Edith Jane (1866), Rosanna(h) (1870) and Alice L (1880).

William ADEY (1824) married Eliza ________ of Wednesfield. They appear to not have had any children.

Joseph ADEY (1840) married Anne ________ of Wednesfield. Children: Elizabeth (1862), Sarah (1867), Emma (1871), John (1875), Frank (1877), Benjamin (1879) and Ann (1883).

Best Regards
Donna

Having traced my own Adey's I am now stupid enough to be trying to trace all the others. I have details regarding some of yours. Do you have any more information?

Hi John.
That is very kind of you. Yes i have found out a few more details about my Adey ancestors- i think i can go back another generation. I have found Jane Gulley(nee. Adey) living with an Adey family in 1841 in Rookery Street. The family is a follows:

William Adey 63
Mary 64
William 30
Henry 20
Solomon 15
Joseph 75
Edward 10
Jane Gulley 30

From looking at the archives of W-ton website i have found a baptism of Jane Adey to William and Mary Adey at St. Thomas' Wednesfield on 15 Apr 1805.

As i posted in my message John Adey was Jane's brother although i can not find a baptism for him at St. Thomas'. I can gather from the records at St. Thomas' that Edward aged 10 is the illegitimate son of Elizabeth, dau of Wm and Mary. Also i think i have found Joseph Adey age 75's baptism in 1770 at St. Thomas' , if its him he is the son of John and Ann Adey.

This is all i have- if you can help me at all i would be very grateful.

Best Wishes
From Donna

I am also looking for info on my Wolverhampton Adeys. Grandfather Thomas Edward Adey born Dec 1904, greatgrandfather Edward Adey, his father was another Thomas I think. Thomas Edward had 2 sisters, May and Nancy. Edward Adey had a brother Albert who ran a pub. At one time they were locksmiths, in later years they apparently ran pubs.

Thanks, Alison
