Solomon Ady

Hoping someone else connects to this line. Solomon, born Sept 19, 1826 KY, died Nov. 15, 1904 in Myrtle Creek, Douglas County, OR. Married to Mary Jane Ireland. I know others believe he connects to Jonathan Ady's line in Ohio, I'm not sure if it's the same Solomon. Any leads are appreciated!

Hello, old thread.

I'm also a fairly recent Ady, a cousin to Meloy (and the youngest of that branch), who made the last post here. My grandfather, Robert Meloy Ady, lent me an old binder tracing back a fair bit of Ady history. I believe it's the less-ornate version of the work done by his sister. I don't know if that resource would prove to be of any use, especially so late after this inquiry was posted, but I can at least verify its existence.

My gr gr grandfather, Joshua was Jonathan Ady's brother, so I am a fairly distant relative. I'll be glad to send whatever I have if you are interested.

Hi, I don't know if we are cousins but I am interested in finding Ady family. My granddad was Orval Nathanial Ady and my father was Charles Edward Ady. My grandmother was Dorma Irene (Post) Ady. They had six children. Donald Ady, Charles E. Ady, Mary (Ady) Meigs, Thomas Ady, Richard Ady and Wynona Ady. I don't know where they came from but I do know tht my granddad built smoke stacks in the 50's and 60's. That's probably pretty basic but I thought I'd say hello.

It is interesting that you are in Aust. and I'm in USA, Washington State. My grandfather wouldn't give my mom very much information to trace Ady. I don't have an ancestry except my adopted family. Our relatives in our area are not family oriented outside of their immediate family. I'd just like to chat whit a few people just to find out information about where ADY comes from and how far has ADY gone around the world.

I don't know if my sister received your pdf transmission. She has not apprised me of her progress or lack thereof in writing a book or booklet re our heredity. She did look at my information, taken by dictation from my Aunt Gertrude Ady, deceased now, and said there were a few inaccuracies.

As my sister is 81, I really have my doubts if that she should actually ever complete her plans on the heredity research. I really did no research myself. She has examined court records here and there and various archives and I think (the most extensive) Mormon records in Salt Lake City.
My sister is still sharp, but I think still busy with other matters. Perhaps she still consults re getting grants for the faculty at the junior college where she previously taught - an arcane abiltity that (grant applications) that I certainly could not share!

One of her sons has an unusual career - as a world class m0ountain climber - re mountainzone.com. He and a colleague and a ghost writer wrote a book on The Search For Mallory - which he, my nephew (Eric Simonson) organized.

Don,

Yes,you and I did exchange e-mails a couple of years back, and I also corresponded with your sister, Carolyn. I attempted to e-mail a .pdf file of my aunt's notes on our families; do you know if she received it? I will be glad to e-mail it to you both if she did not.

Unfortunately, my present life has been so full that I've had no time at all to continue my research into the past! So, my genealogy files and findings haven't been updated since probably 2005, which is the last time I show we connected. I got a lot of teasing recently about being old (I turned 50 in August) and I responded by saying I couldn't wait to be 75, so I could be retired and be able to travel and investigate my family tree full time!

Re: Abel Ady - Ohio in late 1800's

Here is a letter Abel Ady wrote to my great-grandfather almost 100 years ago:

Abel Ady
Klamath Falls, Oregon, December 29, 1909.

Mr. J. N. Ady,
Minnesapolis, Minn.

Dear Sir:
Your letter of the 18, arrived on the 28, and will give you an outline of the origin of the Ady family from which I decended, and according to the rumors given to me by my mother and one of my uncles who resided at Columbus, Ohio, when I was a child.

Early in the year 1788 Gen. Rufus Putnam left Wheeling, W. Vir. with his band of settlers known as The Ohio Company, leaving one family of James Ady and wife, and eight boys, to follow as soon as their raft should be completed, the construction of which had been delayed beyond the time when the remainder of the settlers were ready for the journey down the Ohio River.

Some days after the departure of Gen. Putnam, a band of Wyandotte Indians "atack" the family, killing James and wife, and their sons, William, Amos, Zedekiah, Joseph, and Christian, and taking captive Joshua, Peter, and Tine, aged respectfully 13-11, and 9 years.

Joshua and Peter were restored to the whites in 1792 and "Bound" to two different Ohio Families.

Joshua married in Ohio while a young man, and I have no rumors of him or his decendants since that time.

Peter married Anna Brimm, about 1797, and his son Peter was born about 1806 and married Mariah McDowell about 1828, and my father Abel was born 1840. Abel Sr. married 1862, and I was born near Delaware, Ohio, 1866, after the death of Abel Sr. who was engaged in Kentucky and Tennessee as a secret service man.

The decendants of my great grandfather Peter were quite numerous, but I have met but one uncle, A. C. Ady, who resided at Columbus until his death about 1897. My mother at one time corresponded with one Laura Ady, who was a daughter of James Ady a decendant of Joshua Ady, but the rumors I have about that incident are too indefinate to consider.

Tine Ady, the youngest brother of my great grandfather remained with the Wyandotte Indians, married one of the tribe and left many decendants, and his blood is left in many parts of this country, but he was not known by the name of Ady after being made captive.

Should you be a decendant of the brother of my great grandfather, you would at least have heard something of the rumors of the indian massacre and captivity of the three boys, even though you had not the details.

Should you be a decendant of the captive Joshua, the son of James, I will be more than pleased to receive a detailed statement of decendents of that branch of the family as far as you can give it, and will consider myself less of a stranger in the land than heretofore.

Respectfully Yours,
Abel Ady

-------------

I have tried to research to varify the details of this letter, such as that General Rufus Putnam was a leader of the Ohio Company of Associates. But I could not confirm much more. I found Abel Ady in a Klamath Falls, Oregon, census, and I learned from another Ady family research that Abel died while his son, Aard was still fairly young, and before he knew much of his father's origin. Unfortunately, I learned about the letter to my great grandfather after Mr. Aard Ady passed away. I am not sure if my great grandfather ever wrote back to Abel, but according to the letter from Abel, my ancestor must've initiated the contact.

Hopefully, this is of some help to you, and you have better luck researching the details than I did. For what it is worth, a lot of old Ady records can be found as ADDY, ADE, ADIE, ADEY, EDY, EDIE, EDDY and other surnames. In fact, I sometimes receive letters that way.

Let me know if you have any questions, and if you know anything about the correspondence btwn Abel Ady and my greatgrandfather.

Very sincerely,
Victor Ady

Their Aunt Kitty Ady brought them to our home in Forest Hill Maryland their names were Sharon b.1951and Pam b.1949, Ady, their father was Albert Ady and they also had a brother Albert Ady Jr. b.1952. Just wanted to say Hello 40 years later, doing some family research and just thought of you.

I would love to hear what you know about
Edmund Ady, Sr. I know he was in the Civil War but I have
not been able to find an official record. Do you know if he
died during the war? For many years, I thought that Rebecca
had died and that he had married D. J. Weldon but later I
found Edmund Ady, Jr. I searched for Edmund, Sr. for years
and did not find him. I do have his Deeds from Smith Co., Tx.,
the Tax records from Wood Co., and his land grants in Denton
Co. but have never found him on a census since 1850.

Feel free to write me by E-Mail if you wish. I would like very
much to correspond with you and Sharon.

Cousin Nancy

"Ebb" married Delia Jane Weldon, they had 13 children but only 7 survived, George Mathew (my gfather), Jim, Jack, Author, Pearl, Amanda and Mary. George Mathew married Christine Howell. Christine died just weeks ago, July 9th, 2004, at the age of 100 years 8 days. George Mathew and Christine had 3 children, Richard Norman, Carol Jean and Darol Gene (my father). And so on.

Georgia, Mathew Ady was my Grandfather. He and my Grandmother, Christine Howell Ady, were married in Willowvale, OK, on Aug. 26th 1927. They had three children, my uncle Richard N. Ady of Gresham, OR, my Aunt, Carol Gordon, deceased and my Dad, Darol G. Ady. Carol and Darol were twins. My Uncle Dick was born June 21st, 1931. My Dad and Carol were born June 23rd, 1933. Mathew and Christine were divorced sometime in 1937. Appearantly Mathew's Father and Mother, Ebb and Jane Ady, had 13 children but only 7 survived. Jim, Mathew, Jack, Arthur, Pearl, Amanda and Mary.
Georgia, my Dad doesn't remember Mathew and can't tell me anything about him, but my Gandmother has given us this info. There are 8 children in my family.
I hope this helps. Please let me know.
Tim Ady

Hi Tim and Georgia,

George Matthew Ady was the son of Edmond Ady and
Delilah Jane Weldon who were married in Denton Co.,
Texas August 4, 1885. I think they lived in Wichita
Falls, Texas before moving to the North Fork of the
Red River. I would bet that George Matthew's sister,
Amanda, had the middle name Moriah after Edmond's
sister, Amanda Moriah Ady. Edmond also had a sister,
Sarah, and a brother named George.

Best regards,
Nancy

I was in a antique shop today. They had an Ady family picture album. It was full of pictures of a whole family. Most all of the pictures had the Ady surname wrote on them along with their first names. Everyone was well dressed, the pictures were in perfect condition, the album pages were in good condition, but the cover of the album was not. If anyone is interested in obtaining this album the antique shop is located at 12900 W. Colonial Dr., Winter Garden, Florida 34787. The phone number is 407-656-6406. They are open 10 to 5. I asked the owner if she knew the family or remembered where she obtained the album, but she did not.

This will be a wonderful find for someone in the Ady family. Wish this was my family history.

Good hunting.

Kathy Gonzalez
Researching Hardy Fleming Sellers Bailey Nottingham Cart Smith Peckham

Mary, I have never heard of this name, but that doesn't mean I'm not related to them! I have only scratched the surface of my ancestors. In addition to the Robbs, Meloys and Adys, names in my family tree include McQuiston, Brown, McDill, McPartlin, Wilson, Leech, Templeton on my father's side; Denton, Byrd/Bird, Zarr, Barton, Bentley, Kyle, Banker or Barker, Towle, and Chapman on my mother's. If any of these ring a bell with your Corrigals, perhaps we're cousins.

Margaret
