Sorry don't know exact details but a old family story and a Couzen that confirmed some of it. Right after the war many slaves took on the last name because they were treated so well (if that is possible) the Farm was around Richmond Virginia and had strong ties in Christian community which all slaves practice on the farm. Some stayed and a few went west. He confirmed some names at a slave cemetery but most slaves did not have stones or made of wood and long gone now. My Couzen has past and could not get any documents from his wife. Sorry good luck in quest.

I am attempting to locate information on Elizabeth Agee, b. 1774 in Rutherford Co., North Carolina. She married Micajah Smith in about 1790. She died Jun 1850 in Mecklenburg Co., North Carolina, USA. Micajah died 1803 in Nash Co., North Carolina, USA. If she remarried I do not have that information as he died at 32 yrs of age. But there is an Elizabeth Smith in the U.S. Federal Census Mortality Schedules Index with basic information that matches.

They had two children that I know of, Margarett and Candice.

Margarett is my 4th great grandmother.

Larry A.

Hi, I have GGGrandparents by the same name that are buried in Shaul Cemetery, Ottumwa, Iowa.

The information below was shared & taped in 1992 by my cousins on a trip to Iowa to capture our family history. Video taped Interviews with living family & hand written letters of my GGGrandmother Cool-Talbot to her children & diary notes of weddings & life traveling from Tenn, Ky, MO, Iowa, NM, & AZ in covered wagons.

My Father was Lloyd Wayne Agee & Sister Evelyn F. Agee are the children of Roy Basil Agee & Ona Talbott-Agee. His father was Benjamin Franklin Agee (1876-1968) born in Davis, Wappelo, Iowa and the son of John William Agee & Mary Elizabeth Moughler.

Ben Franklin Agee was married 3 times. #1 Alice M. Harness who died 9 months after Roy B. was born (abt 1903) of congestive heart failure.
Wife #2 Unknown - Ben F. Agee married again between 1904-1910 but we do not know her name of have any records. My Grandfather said she died of TB.
Wife #3 - Ben Franklin Agee wed Zadie May Rown who had abt 10 more children.

My Aunt Evelyn Agee-Celander is still living in Iowa & remembers going to Moughler family reunions. She said her father Roy didn't care much for his step-mother (wife #2 who died of TB) and doesn't recall her name. Zadie M.Rown was always listed on the Census as being Roy's mother, but Alice M. Harness who died when he was 9 mths old was.

After Ben's first 2 wives died he & Roy lived with John & Elizabeth Moughler-Agee until 1910 when Benjamin married Zadie Rown who gave him abt 10 more children.

I spoke to my Aunt Evelyn last week who said that 3 of Aunts (the sisters) are still alive & living in Urbandale, Center, & Ottumwa, Iowa. Nellie, Ruth & Martha. Martha Agee-Fort husband, Dewey Fort died about a month ago in Ottumwa.

I was told that this side of the Agee's are Irish and/or Scotch but keep finding some German in the mix. When I'd ask my father what nationality we were, he would say "were Heinz 57". We got a little bit of everything in us. He would talk about 3 brothers coming over to the USA to avoid some possible jail time & other legal issues. Details were not shared with me.

I have several pictures if you would like to see. I hope this is what your looking for. I'd appreciate any info you have to share if this is a true connection for you.

Joseph Agee died 1905 Longmont, CO

I am not related to this family…

Longmont Ledger (Longmont, Boulder County, Colorado)
Sep 15, 1905 Page 1

DIED

AGEE--In Longmont, Wednesday night September 13, 1905, the result of an accident, Joseph Agee, aged about 19 years.
Joseph Agee was an employee of the sugar factory, and was working on a ladder on the third floor Monday morning, when for some cause he lost his hold fell to the first floor, a distance of from 35 to 38 feet. He fell through the openings made in the floor to take up the heavy machinery now being placed in the factory, and as he fell he struck a large pulley on the second floor, and landed in the engine pit in the basement. His skull was fractured, and the doctor took out three pieces in a subsequent operation; his jaw was broken, and there is good reason to suppose that he received internal injuries.
He did not return to consciousness sufficient to tell anything about his relatives, who cannot be located. He was taken to the Longmont hospital and cared for, though it was evident from the start that he could not live.
This should be a lesson for every man away from friends and relatives to carry some record or addresses in his pocket. It might be the means of saving his own life.
Re: Delilah Jane Agee

That is the right connection, I'm sure. Emma I. (or L.) Tompkins was born to Clark Tompkins and Delila Jane "Lily" Ageen Tompkins in 1872 in Putnam county Missouri. She had one brother John Will (my grandfather) and two sisters, Elizabeth and Mary. Clark was born in 1843 in Edgar County Illinois and I cannot trace him further back than that at this time. He was raised by Christopher Hensley, Clark's mother's second husband, and his third wife Huldah. They moved with the family to Missouri where Clark on Dec 27 1866 married Delilah Jane who was born Sept. 29 1848 in Qahirah, Greencastle, Putnam county Indiana to John Agee and Elizabeth Smith. John Agee was the son of Benjamin Noah Agee and Sara Parker and was born Dec. 25, 1806 in Knox Tenn. Elizabeth Smith was the daughter of William Smith and Elizabeth (unknown). She was born Oct. 5 1808 in Ireland. I actually have a thread on the Agee side of the family dating back to the 11th century. If you would like to send me your email address to tooldresser1958@yahoo.com. I'll fill you in on the rest of it. If you ever pick up any information about Clark Tompkins, I'd like to hear it. He was born to Catharine Tompkins and an unknown husband in 1843. She married Christopher Hensley in 1845 and died in 1850.

Hello, I just started searching for my roots today, and I have hit a dead end. I am hoping to have gotten lucky and the Clark Tompkins/Delilah Jane Agee you are talking about is who I am looking for. My grandma's name was Dorcas Carl. There were 8 children that lived to adulthood. Her parents were Emma Louise Carl and George Carl. The genealogy reports have shown me that my grandma's mom's dad was Clark Tompkins and my grandma's mom's mom was Lily J. Tompkins (I'm hoping she is the Delilah Jane Agee) you are talking about. I don't know Lily J's maiden name. Does this sound like the same family? Please let me know. I'm anxious to find out. Thanks.

Seeking families descended from heads of households living in Horry County area, South Carolina in the first three censuses of the United States of America (1790, 1800, 1810 or earlier). It is well known that families traveled together and intermarried. By joining DNA studies we may be able to uncover links that have all but vanished. There are DNA tests for direct line male descendants called yDNA tests that trace direct male lines. There are direct female tests called mtDNA tests that trace direct female lines. And most recently there are FAMILY FINDER tests that locate people of any gender with sufficiently close DNA markers to indicate fairly close cousinhood between individuals in the study.

For information on such tests check any reputable DNA lab.

If you already have one or more DNA tests available and have ancestors in Horry County area prior to 1810, please consider joining the Horry County South Carolina DNA group.

If you do not yet have DNA tests, consider getting one or more. These can be obtained in a strategic manner to maximize the information—such as convincing a male direct line individual such as your father or brother to give a DNA sample and doing as many tests as possible on that individual. I have been lucky enough to convince two male second cousins, my father, and my maternal uncle to join. That means I am able to tell when someone is kin to one or two which line the match might come from.

Let’s knock down some brick walls!

Julia Norton
Coordinator, Horry County South Carolina group
Member Hawkins group
Member Norton group
i HAVE TRACED our Agee family back to William and Emeline Agee in Oglethorpe County, Ga on the 1850 Cencus. They later show up in the 1880 cencus in Warren County , Ga. That is as far as I have been able to go. They had 6 children, Thomas (born about 1836), Frances,boy,1827, Lucy,F,1840, Georgianna, f, 1841, Archabus, M 1849 and another male, Gabus about 1850. That is all I haave on that family. See any connections to earlier ancestors?
Let me know if this helps you any.
Damon

It's believed that all Agee's in the US descend from Mathieu Agee, the Huguenot refugee. If you give some of your names, dates & places we may be able to help you with the connection. Also, you can look at my website where I have some Agee's listed. It is not complete though. The CD has much more information on it. http://familyhistory1.homestead.com/
I am just getting started on my famiies background. We are from Georgia as far back as I can go so far. I would be interested in seeing if the family goes back to the original Mathieu Agee that came to America with a boat load of Huguenots about 1690 or if we are some other strain of Agee's. I would be very interested in finding out more about the family and any history available. Let me know.

I think the book everyone is referring to is "A Record of the Agee Family" by James W. Agee (1839-1906). Paper, 6x8", 40 pgs. I do remember that someone on this list offered to make copies, and I did receive it. It is obviously old, wrinkled pages, looks to have been held together with thread stitching.
OTHER Agee books are "The Agee Family" by Dr. P. M. Agee that was published in Independence, Missouri in August, 1937. Hard cover, 330 pgs. not indexed. Another is "The Agee Register" by Louis N. Agee(indexed). Published by Mrs. Louis N. Agee, then of Farmville VA in 1982. Like the others, out of print but it is often available in better genealogical collections. Finally, while not on the Agee family, none-the-less treated in "Turff & Twigg,The French Lands vol. 1 ** is vol. 2 out yet?? ** Priscilla Harriss Cabell of Richmond VA.c.1988. Anyone doing Agee research must also use general books on the Huguenots for Agee and related families. Don't forget about the Huguenot society library at Manakintowne (Richmond). http://manakin.addr.com/ as well as early general histories of Virginia. If anyone is looking for "a shortcut to all" for this family, forget it! You'll find pertinent information in many places.

Trevia Wooster Beverly
Houston, Texas
