Thanks to my mother-in-laws memory and the finding of another paper, we've managed to piece together some more...

Fe's mother was Luz Agramonte y Loynaz del Castillo. She was born around 1885 and died before 1939. It is a possibility she is a second cousin to Ignacio Agramonte y Loynaz.

Any Agramonte and Loynaz people out there who can help me piece this together??

Hi all.

I just want to put a word in for the Agrimontis of any spelling who came to America from Italy. I am researching such a family, the original immigrant in our line appears to be Adriano Agrimonti b. 1880 and Angelina Maria Nicoletti Agrimonti b. 1888 in Tuscona, Lucca, Italy.

If this is of interest to anyone, I'd be happy to hear from you at any time.

Pat.

I'm trying to tie my mother-in-law's family into the Ignacio Agramonte line. Here is what we know:

Fè's father was Cesario Nuñez who married an Agramonte. Her mother was supposedly the sister of Ignacio's father. That would make Fè a 1st cousin of Ignacio. My mother-in-law remembers walking toward the front of parade lines for the Agramonte family in Camaguey. I can't find anything on Ancestry and we don't live where Cuban genealogy books are readily available. Any help anybody can give would be greatly appreciated!

Ma Concepcion(Concha) Agramonte y Boza de Sanchez was not a sister of Ignacio Agramonte y Loynaz. They were cousins. Angelina Sanchez Agramonte was Concha's daughter, my great grand mother and sister of Eugenio and Armando Sanchez Agramonte. I descend from her through my grandmother Angela Caballero y Sanchez Agramonte and of course my mother Angela Cadenas y Caballero. My mother married Alvaro Sanchez, from another branch of the Sanchez Pereira family. The Pereira part of the last name was dropped with the Republic by all branches of the family to simplify the name and by the Sanchez Agramonte branch to unite and try to keep together the last names of a great patriotic couple: Concha Agramonte and Francisco Sanchez, after whom I was named. Francisco Sanchez Cadenas

Hello cousin! Thanks for resolving this confusion in our family for years. I am a grand-son of Dr. Eugenio Sanchez-Agramonte. I have forwarded your message to my brother Eugenio. We have been researching the Sanchez-Pereira family tree, historias de familias cubanas, del Conde de San Juan de Jaruco, and the Concha Agramonte relationship to Ignacio was not clear. I also knew Armando Caballero, who lived in New York and worked in the hotel business. My brother was closer to him since he also lived in New York in the 60's. Again, thanks for the information - it is very valuable to us.

Thank you for clarifying that Ignacio and Concha were brother and sister. I'm working on the family history and was curious why the 12 sons and daughters of Francisco Sanchez-Pereira y Betancourt and Concepcion (Concha) Agramonte y Boza, started to unite the Sanchez y Agramonte to Sanchez-Agramonte, instead of Sanchez-Pereira y Agramonte.

Aristides and Enrique attended the college of Pysicians and surgens at Columbia University and co-discovered the cure for Malaria.

Enrique was my G Grandfather.
Hello Armando:

My great grandmother was Angelina Sanchez Agramonte, daughter of Francisco and Concha. Therefore, Concha Agramonte was my great great grandmother. To set the record correct, Concha and Ignacio Agramonte were not brothers, they were cousins. Not sure if first or second cousins. This can be verified with the Agramonte family tree at Jaruco's book of Cuban geneology, to wich I do not have access. Concha's maiden name was Maria de la Concepcion Agramonte y Boza and Ignacio was Agramonte y Lionaz.
Kind regards,

Francisco

I am sorry, I do not have the Agramonte Family Tree. I only have one great grandfather, Clarence Horace Montgomerie y Agramonte, whom we think "adopted" the agramonte name from his mother's side of the family. His father was Henry Charles Montgomerie. I have written the life story of this C.H.M. y Agramonte and would be happy to send a copy if you provide your name and address. Then perhaps you could tell me how we might fit together! This ancestor was born in Havana of a Castillian Spanish mother and American father in 1830 (supposedly - no record has been found, but that is the date that he used throughout his life).

cyhunsaker

My Dear Cousin:

I am researching the life of C.H.M. y Agramonte because he was my great grandfather. I am descended from Laurence Collins Agramonte Young, son of C.H.M and Clara Stenhouse Young, the widow of Joseph A. Young, son of Brigham Young.

I have many photos, a large scrapbook of items I have collected about him, and a list of his descendants, except your line. I saw your name on another web site and then lost it. In fact, one of my sisters found your message the very same day as I did as well. Our family legend tells that Agramonte had a grandchild born to his daughter Alicia Lelia Agramonte age 20, who died in childbirth, and that the baby was given to the father by Agramonte, saying,"Here is your inheritance." I assume you are descended from that branch, which I have been trying to find.

I am sorry if my response was slow. I have been in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, greeting new identical twin grandbabies, and arrived home late last night, Saturday. Now I see that my response was not slow; in fact, it was just within hours of your posting, as it is 2:38 MST here now!

In past years, I have done much research on my great grandmother and have written her life story. I hoped to do the same for CHM y Agramonte, as I am going to Mexico City in June to meet other relatives. I have met some of them before, when they came to Utah, and also my parents and aunt have met them in Mexico City. I have been to Agramonte's home, his grave, and seen many pictures of him.

It is more than a fortunate coincidence to have found each other; it is a blessing. I look forward to corresponding and sharing information, and perhaps eventually getting to know you.

Carolyn Y. Hunsaker (Mrs.)
538 South 1200 East
Bountiful, Utah 84010

Dear Sir,

Regarding your note about the late Clarence Horace Montgomerie y Agramonte (1830) posted on this board on 2 March 2008, I would like to inform you that I am the
Great Grand daughter of such person. I am very pleased to
have found your request and I am also curious as to why you are researching the past of my reat grand father. My name is Maria de Lourdes Laborde Cuevas and I should let you know that my husband (jmarcamm) has helped me in writing this message since I do not speak English. I would like very much to hear from you, perhaps we can share information on my ancestor since I am also researching his
background. I should add that I consider it a fortunate coincidence to have found your message, thank you,
Maria de Lourdes Laborde Cuevas.
mariadellab@hotmail.com

I am seeking any information about the parents and family of Clarence Horace Montgomerie y Agramonte, b 1830, Havana, Cuba. His parents were James Cunningham Montgomerie and Ernestina Eleanora Del Castillo (we think that was her name). They lived in NYC near Gramercy Park. CHM y Agramonte was listed as a sugar planter on civil war records (an aide-de-camp to General Hooker). He possibly took his mother's maiden name Agramonte for sentimental reasons. Lived until 1929, died in Mexico City.

Hi Lejuene,

I am Lidia Agramonte, I don't know of any relative named Clarence, but my Grandfather Tomas Agramonte orginally from Puerto Principe in Cuba would have been born about 1886, he was an Attorney and the family story goes that he was blown up in a train during the Mexican Revolution, his remains were never found. My father was born in 1908 in Vera Cruz Mexico, after his father died, my grandmother Micaela Alor took her children to Cuba to get help from my grandfathers family. My father often spoke of a cousin Julian? Jules? Agramonte, who lived in Calif and was a designer/engineer desigining new cars. It is also my understanding that at some level we are all distant cousins.
We do come from an amazing heritage and it is funny how little most of know of our past, great to have others searching too. you can e-mail me directly at fuegosmom@snet.net.

Is this reply going to Tony Horpel or to Lidia Agramonte Gomez?

If it is to Tony, HI again. I lost you some time ago. Is it possible to take up a correspondance again?

I recently put my grandfather's name into a GOOGLE SEARCH and out came a list of all persons busried in the Mexico City Cemetery. Very interesting. There on the first pageeee notice of the burials of two more of his children I had never heard of.

Then later on the name of his daughter Alicia wo died after giving birth. She was my father's half sister and he on;y knew of her existance.

If you are Lidiaa I am happy to have found you. Please reply.

LEJEUNE DECKER, granddaughter of Clarence Horace Montgomery y Agramonte born in 1830 in CUBA, died 1929 Mexico City, D.F.

Dear Peter,

I too am searching for information on the Agramonte family. My Great-Grandfather was Ignacio Agramonte born in 1870, in Camaguey, Cuba. He married Georginia Navarro in 1900. They have 3 sons:
Ignacio born 1902
Bolivar born 1905
Anibal born 1908

I am trying desperately to obtain this information for my Grandfather "Bolivar" 100th birthday 9/20/2005. Any information that you can provide would be wonderful.

My grandfather also added, that his Grandfather was also named Ignacio, could this be tied to the General? He called his grandmother, "Nina". We are also attempting to trace our history to Dr. Aristides Agramonte, he may be my Grandfathers uncle, but we are unclear on this.

Thanks again,
Wendy

Dear Lejeune,
My brother, Vince Horpel, told me that he had been in touch with you. I am the eldest of four children from my mother (deceased) Leonie Agramonte and father Franklin E. Horpel, Jr. My mother's brother Robert Agramonte and his son Robert Jr. are alive and well. Robert Sr. lives in Western Washington and his son (my 1st cousin) lives in Palo Alto, CA. My mother's father was Julio Agramonte but he went by Jules. He was married to Edith Koch. Julio's father was Enrique Agramonte and I believe the brother of Ignacio. Enrique was married to Justa Mora. As I understand it, Enrique left Havana shortly after the Spanish American War and fled to New York where my grandfather was born and grew up. There are more Agramonte's but they're women and no longer carry the Agramonte name thus making it difficult to trace. Tony
