I am trying to find more information about a John Aiton (born 1700-1715) and his ancestors. He married Jean Weir and they had a son named William Aiton (1731-1793 born in Lanarkshire, Scotland). This William Aiton was the royal gardner to King George III and designed most of the gardens now seen at Buckingham palace. He had a son with Elizabeth Townsend. His son (William Townsend Aiton) took over for him in the gardens. WT Aiton had children with Sarah Smith. One of their children (Ann Augustus Smith (Aiton)) married my direct paternal great times ? grandfather Charles Foster. She was born in 1795. Any info on any of these people would be greatly appreciated!!!

Tracy. I have transcribed to a 50 page MS Word file, a book titled; "An Inquiry into the Origin, Pedigree & History of the Family , or Clan of Aitons In Scotland". Authored by William Aiton, Ex-Sheriff Substitute in Hamilton and published in Glasgow in 1830. It has been a great help to me and I think will be to you or any other Aiton researcher. No strings attached. It is just too much to post in a reply here. So, if you or others want the file sent, please email me direct at baa154@cox.net

I would love to have a copy of the William Aiton, Aitons from Scotland as my great-grandparents, Andrew and Matilda (Crockett) Aiton orginated there.
