Hello to all who can help me?!
I am searching for any information, photos ect pp of my grandparents. My grandfather Joseph Bray
Aiton (probably born 1862- maybe in
Bridge of Allen near Sterling in
Scotland but could also be in
England- but not sure) and died probably on the 9th of January (deftl in January) in 1949- he served in the army in the first world war and got the british star(medal). He was a Captain in the 3rd
Royal Sussex Regiment and also a Second Lieutenant in the 5th (
Cinque Ports) Battalion of the
Royal Sussex Regiment.
He was married to my grandmother called Beatrice May or Mary
Piercy (died 5th July 1954 in
Hastings).
My mother also told me that my granddad might have been married before.
Could you help me- I know there is hardly any information I have.
Their daughter (my mother) is called Madeline
Rosamond Aiton, later married my father who is Erich Breyer- so her name now is M. Rosamond Breyer-Aiton, she was born in
Hastings. They lived in
Battle, Calbec Hill.
My mother also had or has a sister who was/is called Jean Isobel or
Isabel Aiton, who lived or lives in a carering home near or in
Hastings.
A cousin of my mother and the daughter of the older brother of my grandfather Sir Athur
Aiton, who lived in
Dufield Park or House in Derby, who founded the Company "Aiton&Company", was called
Corrie Dura Leapingwell (Maidenname was
Aiton)
Jane Taylor (Maidenname Leapingwell) was the daughter of
Corrie or Cornelia.
The son of
Corrie was called Robert, died in the channel Islands on Jersey.
Corrie died during a cruise in 1982 and her son died either 1 or 2 years later. Jane died before her mum - earlier in the West Indies- Jamaica!
Robert married and had a son called Ian, who still is alive and probably lives in Paris.
Ian also had a little brother, but we do not know his name.
Corrie´s older brother was called John and her sister was the first female achitect in the UK.
Corrie´s husband name was Bernard Leapingwell.
My mothers grandfather lived in
Bridge of Allen as he was a vicar in a church married to Someone called
Marshman as the Maidenname!
My grandfather has a sister called
Rosamond who died early around 1885! My mother is named after her.
My grandfatehr´s cousin Eric
Marshman Baileyalso called Frederick
Marshman Bailey was a famous botanist, working in the army, discovering the famous Tibetan Blue
Poppy- Micanobsis Baileyi.
He took on the Maidenname of his mother, who was the sister of my mother´s grandmother.
Roger Boissier – has worked in the
Aiton Company either as general Manager, who went away from the company. He lives probably in
Cumberland .
The grandfather of my mother (her mother´s dad) died probably in 1937, but not sure!
My mother´s grandmother (mum´s side) died in 1948 in
Hastings.
