Do either of you happen to know anything about their parents? I see John Akin and Frances Davis as their parents in what I've seen, but I also see John as being the son of Isham Akin and Lereviah Davis. The problem in the records for me is that North Carolina records suggest that these last two were married in 1789, several years after John was born. Might John have been married to someone else before that? Or was this a "renewal of vows" type of thing?

Curious if you've seen this.

~JW

there are a few james aikin listed i did a dna test and was related to a family in south carolina that came over from county antrim ireland around 1787 but my branch did not leave ireland until later and immigrated to canada. my ggg grandfather was a james aikin who was born in county antrim in 1810 and later moved to canada. i received a journal from the folks in south carolina that shows two of the sons did not leave ireland for south carolina but do not know why or have their names. because of the dna link my ggg grandfather must be a child of one of those two sons. your william lloyd may fit into this branch and the james may be another relative

mike

William Lloyd Aiken

All of the family trees on this site list William Lloyd Aiken Sr. (1740-1783) as being born in Ireland, which sound right. However, they also show his father Thomas William Akin (1698-1794), grandfather James Akin II and great grandfather James Akin I both born and died in Virginia. This just doesn't seem right, but I can figure out if Thomas really is William's father.

Does anyone have any better info on this?

Thanks,
Aaron Akin

Benjamin's full name was Benjamin Henry Church. Anything you'd like to share, I would really love. If there's anything I can help with, let me know. If I can provide what you need, I'll gladly share.

Re: Daniel Akin

I have considerable genealogy information on Daniel and his two wives on my family tree which you can access at www.akinfamilyhistory.com which is on Rootsweb, or, if you are an Ancestry.com subscriber at "David Akin of Newport, R.I.". This includes an ancestry of Daniel Akin that goes back 7 generations.

Daniel married Margaret Gray as his first wife about 1868 and Hattie Akin was born to them in 1869. Margaret died in 1882 according to her tombstone and Daniel remarried to Sarah Church in 1884 according to the 1900 US Census. She was sixteen years younger than Daniel and outlived him 31 years dying in 1947. I do not believe that they had any children. Sarah had had no children in the 1900 census and none appeared in the 1910, 1920 nor 1930 census when she was living with her father, Benjamin Church in Lisbon, St. Lawrence, NY.

Benjamin Church was born in England. I believe that his full name was Benjamin Henry Church or Henry Benjamin Church. He lived with Sarah after Daniel Akin died through 1930 when he was 97 years old.

As for Hattie Akin, I found records for Harry E and Hattie Lord living in Ogdensburg and Concord, New Hampshire in 1900, 1910, 1920, and 1930. Two daughters are shown, Irene Emma Lord and Ruth K. Lord. I cannot prove that this is the correct family. Do you have any sources for this marriage?

Looking for info on Daniel Akin and his wife, Sarah A. Church. Daniel was born in 1842 in New York and is buried in the Martin Cemetery in the state of New York. His wife Sarah was born in 1858 and is buried in the same cemetery. Sarah was the daughter of Benjamin Henry Church and Elizabeth A. Fisher. Daniel Akin was also married to Margaret Gray. Daniel and Sarah had one child that I'm aware of, Hattie Akin, she married Harry Lord. Does anyone have any info that they'd like to share? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

My grandfather was Gould Akin and I'm trying to find out other Akin ancestors - without much luck. I know that M.L. Akin was Gould's father and Sarah Tennessee Akin was Gould's mother. I was lucky enough to be able to visit the Sweeney Cemetary and see Sarah Tennessee Akin's gravestone and some other family members also, but that is just about all the info I know. I'm sure there is so much more. I live in Washington state and don't get to Tennessee to often and I hadn't thought about Thompson station in a long time. I have a photo of my grandmother - Idolene V. Hargrove Akin (Gould's wife) standing in front of a building at Thompson station in the early 1920's. Thank you for any information that you can provide. As you can see I am interested in the Hargrove family also so if you have any info on them I would appreciate that also. Rhonda

Gould and Estella are the only children that I know of from both Marshall L. Akin and Sarah Tennessee Hargrove. I had an Uncle John that was a half brother to Gould but I don't know who his mother was. You are polite in using the term "wanderer". I would love to hear any tidbits that you have to share. If you have any more Akin ancestors before Marshall L. Akin I would love to find them. Rhonda
