The spelling of names in early Louisiana often depended on what ethnic group the person creating the records belonged to.

My great-great-great grandmother was Charlotte Froggett (1841-1913). Her first husband was Jean Alphonse, and they had a daughter named Mary Alphonse. We can find nothing on Jean Alphonse, and I am wondering if he could actually be Juan Alfonso/Alphonso or an older relative with the same name??? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I am looking for information on my great great grandmother Maria Alphonso believed to be from Castille in Spain, b abt 1800. She married a sea captain Henry Bateman and had a child Elizabeth in Limerick Ireland. Elizabeth was later known as Eliza Kennedy/ Murphy.

This seems to be a big brick wall for me.

I am hoping I can get other Alponsos to participate in DNA testing to help us link these families together. even if you don't have a male to test through ydna, the new Family Finder test is good at linking cousins from all lines. Try familytreedna.com

Hi I am trying to track down more information on my fathers side, My Dad was Noel H. Alfonso, he was the Middle son of 5 boys. 2 of which died in infancy. My Grandfather Martin Alfonso Pelaez migrated from Havana Cuba to Tampa Florida where he married Carmen Venegas. Not positive if my grandfather was born in Havana or not. His passport states he was, I believe his mother to be Mercedes Pelaez. Carmen was the Daughter of Dolores Venegas and Victorino Venegas

Alfonso/Cornacchia

Hello,

I am looking for information mainly on the Alfonso family.

My great grandmother was named Maria Alfonso (1904) and married Vincent Cornacchia (now called Cornett). They immigrated to Canada I believe in the early 1900's from Italy. They had 8 children together (one of them being my grandfather).

Maria also had 3 other siblings as far as I know: Joseph, Jean and Eileen.

I would like to know what happened to the siblings and their families.

Any information is greatly appreciated! :)

My great grandmother was Maria and she had a brother named Joseph? I do not know where Joseph could be. I am trying to track where Joseph lived and his family and my great grandmother's other siblings Eileen and Jean.

My great grandmother was Maria Alfonso(1904) and her brother's name was Joseph Alfonso She also had two other sisters. I dont know about her siblings, but my great grandmother came to Canada when she was young.

I am also looking for the Alfonso side of my family. My great grandmother was Maria Alfonso and she had 2 brothers and one sister as far as I know. In my great grandmother's newspaper ad when she died, it said her sister's name was Eileen. Perhaps, it is from the same Alfonso roots?

Antonio shows up on the 1850 census as another son of Juan Alphonse/Alfonse/Alphonso/Alfonso. Your grandfather may have confused the island of Sicily with the Canary Islands where this family originates.

Let me correct myself. Francisco seems to be a son of Juan Sr not his brother. I found mention of a family of this name from the Canary Islands in Spain.

I do not know a lot but I was looking into the Juan Alphonse family for a friend and I find they are sometimes listed in the Spanish form Alfonso I found Juan and his brother Francisco in 1830 St Bernard. They sometimes show up as Alphonse too, the French and Spanish forms of both first and last names seem flexible. My guess is that Francisco is your Francois. In 1830 he shows up with 3 boys and 2 girls.

I can't help with the information you are requesting, but I find the name changes similar to my family.
I have been searching for where my g grandfather Antonio Alphonse came from. He died leaving my grandfather an orphan in 1905, but my grandfather said he was born in Sicily as Antonio Alfonso and the priest in Louisiana changed his name by dropping the o and adding an e to change the name to a French spelling to fit into the French community in Louisiana.
I find your g grandmother coming from Ireland interesting with a name such as Alfonso.

He was a lifetime resident of Tampa, Fla., before moving to Carson City one and a half years ago. John was the retired owner of Carrollwood Bait and Tackle. He was an avid baseball player and fan, but enjoyed all sports.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Jennie Alfonso.

I am looking for information on a Victoria Alfonso born about 1838 who was married to a James Haley. They had three children,James, Caroline and Arthur William. In the 1910 Census for Arthur they say that His mother was born in Ireland and his father was born in Louisiana. But in 1920 Census they have both parents born in Louisiana. I was able to find a Victoria Alfonse in St. Bernard Parish Census for 1850 and she is 12 years old. Which would be about right. Her father was Francoise Alfonse and the mother was Josephine. If anyone has any info I would appreciate it. I was just trying to see if I am on the right track. Thanks. Ann

My Great Grandfather was Jacinto Alfonso, married to
Modesta Torres. They came to Key West about 1884 and my
grandfather was born in Cuba. My mother was born in Homestead but they resided in Key West. Some of the family
still live there. Any information you have would be great!

He brought his family from Cuba to Key West Florida around
1884. My grandfather was Armando Mario Alfonso. Some of the
family still live in Key West, I live in the Upper Keys.

My maiden name is Alfonso also, and from family history and research I discovered that the Spanish conquistadors invaded Sicily and some of them stayed and married the sicilian women and hence the name came to Italy. They were Castilians. The name is from the noble families of Spain, Naples and Sicily. I have come across other Alfonso's and we seem to all have similar "looks".

My great grandmother's name was Rosa Maria Alfonso. She lived on Havana Street in Havana Cuba. She married a man with the last name of Kimball and the family moved to Mobile Alabama. She had 2 children. Rose and Frank Kimball. Rose later resided in Pensacola Florida and Frank moved to Oregon or Washington. If you have any info on Rosa. The name of Wells is also significant but I don't know if this was Rosa's Mother's maiden name.

Spc. Carlo E. Alfonso, 23, of Spokane, Wash., died on Aug. 26 of injuries sustained when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device in Sadr City, Iraq. He was assigned to the 40th Engineer Battalion, 2d Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Baumholder, Germany.

Hi I have read your message I am trying to trace a Joseph Alfonso who attended I think the New York Medical School and then came to England in WW2 and served either at a base or Hospital near Huntingdon Cambridge, England, I think his mother's name would have been Marie, I also think there has some connection with Chicago. I am researching the Alfonso family from New Orleans. Ignacio Alfonso was born in Cuba in February 1865. He migrated to New Orleans in 1883 and married Marie Caroline DELBERT on 21 October 1891. They had seven children, but not all survived to adulthood. Of those who survived, Hector Anthony (Tony) Alfonso, born April 2 1896 served with the USAAF in England and died there on November 6 1943. Achilles Alfonso, born July 27 1897 died in June 9 1945. Achilles was married to Carmen (Bellini) Alfonso who died December 23 2001. They had a daughter Magda Alfonso. Any information on this family, in particular Tony (Hector), would be welcome.

That sounds like my family's story. My grandfather is from Mayaguez and was born in 1918 to Jose Alfonso. His mother was much younger than his father. I don't know a lot about them. Does any of that sound familiar though?

Pedro's parents were Pedro Alfonso y Paredes and Rosario de la Torre y Alfonso. Pedro Joaquin and Maria Loreto had at least 7 children: Jose Antonio (d. 1919), Rosa (1873-1953), Lucrecia Maria (b. 1881), Esther (b. 1886), Carlos Manuel (1890-1917), Maria Teresa (1893-1983), and Raul (1894-1950).

Linda, Alfonso is both a Spanish and an Italian last name. Though by far in the States, it is mostly recognized by Spanish people. In Spain, Alfonso is also a last name. The Borbon Dynasty of kings (House of Bourbon, France) had several King Alfonso for Spain, the last one being Alfonso XIII who was sent into exile in the 1930's. Though somewhat confusing, the same seems to occur with the last name Acosta. I went to school with an Italian girl surnamed Acosta, but my husband's great-grandmother was born in Puerto Rico with that last name.

I figure if we could all go back far enough, we'd end up with Noah and his wife, then Adam and Eve.

There were, at least, two brothers Alfonso, who settled in the area of Hatillo, Puerto Rico in 1850. They came from San Miguel, Tenerife, where I founf all his ancestors. They has a huge amount of descendants I wonder if related to yours. It is interesting that they modified the surname as ALFONZO.

Almost no one will reply to such little information. However, I am because I'm digging up dead Alfonso members. Do you have any names, dates, birth locations, death locations, marriage information? There are descendants of Alfonso in Florida, and I do know them.

JOSE CRUZ ALFONSO born May 3, 1909 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, died about 1948; JOSE ALFONSO born June 14, 1864 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, died before 1930; ABELARDO ALFONSO, supposedly born in Spain; HIGINIA DURAN (O DURANT), mother of JOSE CRUZ ALFONSO, born 1878 in Mayaguez, still alive in 1930 according to the U.S. Census, now dead; JERONIMO DURAN (O DURANT), father of HIGINIA DURAN.

The story goes that when JOSE CRUZ ALFONSO married my husband's grandmother, PALMIRA VINCENTY, he was disowned by his family. Apparently the Alfonso family and the Vincenty family were not of the same political opinion. And that's all we know about the Alfonso family.

start with your father or mother who ever is italian andlook up their parents name etc.and trace it back. to you get how far you want to go. in finding the name. lookat passenger list if they are from italy and other genealogy informationn or key inthe father first and last name to get information on the computer. write back dawn
