I am sorry I haven't answered you quicker but I just returned from buring my mom in St. Louis. She was 101 yrs. 7 months and 8 days old when she died. I was called to her bedside in the nursing home the last two weeks. I guess she got her longevity from Hyacinth's side of the family. I returned home on Feb. 25th and returned to work the 28th. I had almost forgotten I had requested time off starting March 10th to go out and do mom's taxes but decided to take the time and to go visit my daughter who lives in Tappan, New York. I have done ancestry work for about twenty years and have visted Charles Morgan's family cemetary in South Amboy a few years ago. Would love to talk to you.

I willing to share information on Julie Morgan, may grat grqadmother. She was the grandaughter of the Charles Morgan who founded Morganza Plantation. Her father, also named Charles Morgan, married Virginia Raphael, who was apparently Jewish. Julia Morgan married Maurice Abrams, a English immigrant who was a New Orleans broker and my great grandfather. Maruice and Julie had 13 children, half of whom seemed to have been raised as Jews and half as Christians on Magazine Street in New Orleans.

Hello,
I am researching my tree and always thought I had a relative that was an Allen. I just found a baptism from Blackstone, MA. Catholic chuch St Paul and my great great grandfather was Clement Allain. His son was baptised at the chuch in 1863. Parents were Clement and Mary both of Canada.
Do you have any connection? The baptised sone was Frances Napoleon Allain ( later used the name of Frank N. Allen) He moved and married in Minnesota and later left his wife and died in Benton, Il.
Sue Beety
Menomonie, WI
suebeety@beety.net
715 556 9749

I have researched this family off and on for about 16 years. I can trace Hyacinth's parents and grandparents back to France. I can trace Charles back much further.

Charles Morgan, who established Morganza Plantation, was my great-great grandfather. My other great-great grandfather, Maurice Abrams, married Charles’ youngest daughter Julie, who was James Alfred Morgan’s sister. Maurice Abrams was a Jewish English immigrant. He worked as a consignment merchant, stock broker and estate manager in New Orleans. He may have met Julie while conducting a court-ordered inventory of Morganza Plantation property after Charles’ death on February, 17, 1848. (Charles died without leaving a will, and the Ponte Coupee District Court ordered the inventory so that portions of the plantation could be partitioned and sold to benefit Charles’ heirs. The inheritance issue finally wound up before the Louisiana Supreme Court.) I wonder if you know anything about the circumstance surrounding Julie Morgan’s marriage to Maurice Abrams. The marriage took place in New Orleans, rather than at St. Francis Church in Pointe Coupee, the traditional wedding place for Morgan daughters. It seems odd that Julie would have married outside her faith and outside the planter class. I think there’s a chance Maurice and Julie eloped because her family opposed the marriage. However, it might be they were married in New Orleans because the St. Francis Catholic Church refused to sanction an interfaith marriage.
Blair Case
The family that I am researching began with Louis Allain, who was the first to come over to Canada in the mid 1700s. He had one son, Pierre. I knew that Pierre left during the expulsion (they had been living at Port Royal) and I just recently found out that he may have gone to Louisianna. Pierre's son Louis stayed in Maritime Canada and so did his desendants, who are my direct ancestors. I have been interested in what happened to Pierre and was wondering if anyone would be able to give me an idea.

Thank you very much for any help.

Sincerely

Heather Allen

Can anyone send it along pdf?
Can share photos of in place floor boards cut by Louis Allain 300+ years ago( carbon dated) for the construction of the deGannes house on St George Street Annapolis Royal (Port Royal) NS. Photos were taken by me at the 300th anniversary open house of Canada's oldest continuously privately inhabited home. What a thrill and rare experience to view boards cut by Louis Allain.
Thank You,
David J. Allain (ninth generation)

Re: Pierre Allain letter, Baton Rouge 1803

Pierre Allain, son of Lieut. Jean Francois and Marie Francoise (Ricard) Allain was born on September 11, 1762 in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana. Pierre’s father served gallantly under Bernardo de Galvez in the campaigns against the English during the Revolution. By 1803, Pierre was residing in Baton Rouge District, Spanish West Florida. Life was good under the old Spanish regime and many of its inhabitants enjoyed the laxity of protocol and liberal land grants. Mme Hortena Vahamonde, daughter of an earlier Spanish commandant – Capt. Jose Vasquez Vahamonde, came under the eye of Mons. Allain. A youthful girl of only fourteen, however, had fallen for the elderly Gov. Grand-Pre, commandant of Baton Rouge from 1800-1809. Pierre eventually wed Mme Marie Paulina Manette Duplessis on May 31, 1804 at the St. Louis Cathederal in New Orleans. They returned home to West Florida where Pierre and his bride had a sizable estate and plantation. Pierre resided in Baton Rouge until he died on February 8, 1820.

Transcription of letter

“Baton Rouge the 12th April, 1803

My Dear Armand, I have received your letter that you have made out of friendship to write to me with joy. You must have believed by my silence that I have not thought of you anymore. No, my friend! The circumstances where I found myself after the death of your poor comrade, Alexandre Patin; I was charged with all of the affairs of his succession and that made me neglect many things that I would have never neglected otherwise in other moments. I have shown your letter to your cousin who has been very sensitive to your memory and has cried from joy to learn of your news. She charges me to embrace you and my family tenderly. Your cousin Manette marries with Dubroca, the cousin of your mother-in-law. I don’t go into detail with you on the subject of your family, Planton. I write you this same occasion of your baby sister who is still pretty and plump. She speaks often of her brother Armand. Your father wouldn’t have rarely missed the opportunity to let you know that you have another sister who is also charming. Our friend, Dufref, who is hurrying me and taking care of this letter, leaves this moment from Baton Rouge to go down to New Orleans to embark for Bordeaux. However, he leaves me time to speak of Madamoiselle Hortena Vahamonde with whom I had promised to marry at the moment of the conclusion. You will find this bizarre that she prefers the Governor Grand-Pre with whom she would be married even if her father and mother had been opposed. You will find as strange that an old liar of 64 years without a fortune with 11 children is able to please a young girl of 14 years. I ask of you to embrace tenderly the little one and tell him that I hope that he will write me also. Goodbye my dear Armand. I wish good health and I hope to have this pleasure to see you soon and I am always your devoted cousin.”

Pre. Allain
