Do you know if this family line would have a man named Nelson Alley who lived in Indianapolis Indiana, he was married to a Meldora Waymire, and had a son Lewis Berdell Alley (my father) on May 17, 1930 or 1931?
I was told that Nelson Alley was a minister, but that is about all I know.
Apparently Meldora Waymire was married several times prior and had several children between the previous marriages. I am unclear how old they were as parents at the time of my fathers birth, but he had stated they both died one year apart around Christmas time when he was 15 and 16 years old. So that would mean Nelson Alley died around 1945?

Kristy, me and my brothers are your husbands cousins! We are direct descendants of the marriage between Obediah Snow and Sarah J (his second wife). They had a daughter, Malana Snow, who married John Pinckney Alley. They had a son James Pinckney Alley and a daughter named Sarah "Sallie" Alley. Sallie Alley married Tom J Smith and they had a daughter named Rose Jetta Smith. Rose married Rolland James Miller and they had our father James Pinckney Miller (JP MIller, author of Days of Wine and Roses). Whew! We have always wanted to find proof of the Cherokee bloodline and I know it leads to Obediah Snow but am still searching for the proof. Are you still researching this?

Monty
We have something in common it would seem. JP Alley and Malana Snow had a daughter named Sallie Alley. She married Tom J Smith and they had a daughter named Rose Jetta Smith. Jetta married Roland James Miller and they had my father JP (James Pinckney) Miller. My father always said that we had Cherokee blood from his mother's side of the family. Do you know the name Gray Hawk Snow?

Hello Melinda, my father JP Miller is directly descended from JP Alley and Malana Snow. I'm trying to find more information about Malana Snow. We were always told that someone, likely Malana, was full or part Cherokee. Her father's name according to the 1850 Census was Obadiah Snow. There is no indication of Cherokee blood on the census.

On a 1880 Floyd county census. There is a susan sphars(spelled wrong) living with her husband Hill H sphars(supposed to be will h. sparks)next to David Alley and other alleys. I do also know that Turners brother simeon also had a daughter susan alley, but she married a man with the last name compton and was almost 10 yrs different in ages.

Thaks Kelli

Both came to Oklahoma from Missouri. I have found lineage for Marion Joseph Breshears but not for David W.

My grandfather William Alley married Dora Deck around Murfeesboro, Tenn. Theywere married in Houston, Tenn. may 29, 1892. Their marriage certificate had a signature on it George R. Alley. Can anyone help me find their parents.
as I believe George Alley was born in 1867 and William in 1863 and I feel they are brothers.

My maiden name is charlene alley. My father was Gus Feeny Alley and my mother's name was Winifred H. Alley. They were married in Cairo, Ill. but lived in Missouri, Indiana, Illinois. Gus F. Alley, Vernon Alley and Dennis Alley were brothers. However, Vernon and Dennis Alley changed their names to Allie later. Why we do not know.

My main quest is to find however who William Alley and George R. Alley's parents were. I appreciate any help anyone can give me.

I know it's been a long time since you posted but hope you're still still online and doing the research. Not sure where my Alley ancestor came from, but he was born in Virginia abt. 1785--David Alley married to Urseda "Ursula" Branham in Floyd Co., Ky. on June 11, 1812. I doubt you do, but just maybe you have him listed? It sure would be nice. I've been doing this research for years and haven't been able to prove his ancestry.
Dolores

Hi, I am looking for info on Jane Alley and her mother, Elizabeth Alley, who married Andrew Tolbee. Did Elizabeth and Andrew divorce? Elizabeth spends the rest of her life in Kentucky living with her daughter Jane. (Jane's name is Jane Alley when she married John Bond in 1843, not Jane Tolbee. Was she not Andrew's daughter?) Elizabeth goes by "Alley" in most census records, but Taulby in the 1850. Elizabeth died after 1880; Jane died in 1917 in Clark Co., Ky. Any help appreciated.

Joshua Alley, was born 1808 and died during the 1860's. He had a son named Nathaniel Sawyer Alley, b 6 MAR 1844; d 1931.

Based on the fact that Joshua had a son named Nathaniel, I consulted "Early Jonesborough Families of Washington County, Maine and was able to find Nathaniel (who married Sarah Catherine Faulkingham)and from there his father, Joshua Alley. Info for Joshua is located on page 8 of above named book.

Joshua's parents were John Alley and Tryphena Heath; info located on page 5 of same book. John was born at Franklin, ME 22 JAN 1783; died at Great Wass Island (Jonesport, ME) 6 AUG 1854.

John married Tryphena Heath at Penobscot, Maine in June of 1804. Tryphena was born at Frankfort, ME in May of 1784 and died at Great Wass Island in November 1872.

She had 12 children, 116 grandchildren and 122 great-grandchildren as wellas one great-great-grandchild [Machias Union of 3 AUG 1869]. She was the daughter of Eldad Heath (b at Plaistow, NH 26SEP 1751) and his wife Lydia Bowden (b at York 2 JUL 1755).

Hope this helps, let me know.

Chris Gilbert
gilbert_5@msn.com

I can confirm the info on Thomas and Jane that you found is correct. The last name was indeed Aly for them. As to Nicholas I do not have any records of him. I am a direct decendent of the Alley line nd several of the books written on the history of Montgomery Co. were by my 1st cousin who was a historian and worked at the Tech library. Much of her work is on display there at the campus and her daughter, one other and myself hold other info.

So this was Edgar's nephew.
One of them owned a restaurant whom she worked for. I have no idea which is which though. She did know both of them but not if or how the Edgar Alleys were related to each other.

Thomas Alley, Jane Alley, Nicholas Allee (Alley) 1735-1808

While researching my ancestor Nicolas Allee, I found the following information that I thought others may be interested in.

The Order Book for Montgomery Co., Virginia on April 5, 1787 states:

"Satisfactory proof being made to this Court that Jane Alley is entitled to the pay of Thomas Alley her husband who dyed of his wounds at Buford's Defeat."

Some researchers state Nicholas Allee (Alley) was the son of Thomas Alley. This, despite huge discrepancies. Nicholas first appeared on the tax list in Franklin County in 1747. If he was born in 1735, the son of Thomas Alley, his father would have been just thirteen years old when Nicholas was born, and Nicholas would have been just twelve when he was first taxed. It doesn't add
up.

I believe the "Jane Alley" who appeared in court that day was actually Jane Ely. Her husband, Thomas Ely was at Buford's Defeat, was wounded, and did die two years later from his wounds. His destitute widow did move to Montgomery
County, and did go to court on several occasions to seek financial aid. Thomas Ely's war record can be documented.

I also believe an Alley researcher found this court record and believed (I don't blame them) that this was Thomas and Jane Alley. I haven't found other documentation for Thomas Alley being involved in Buford's Retreat. (He would have been in his late fifties at the time). Since Nicholas' name (spelled Alley) was also in the index for Montgomery County, maybe there was an assumption made that Jane went to live in Montgomery County with her presumptive son Nicholas after the death of her husband. The scenario where Thomas was at Buford's Retreat, and Nicholas was his son, was perpetuated in "Alley Ancestors" by Gene Alley.

So, this may be the source for both the belief that Nicholas was the son of Thomas Alley, and that Thomas Alley was wounded at Buford's Retreat.

If anyone has any documentation to prove who Nicholas' parents were, please post on the message board.
Not so far. I am stuck there. I have been to his grave in Fulton County Indiana and have a copy of his will but the trail goes cold beyond Minor. My best guess is he is from an area that later became part of West Virginia. Or he might be from Henrico County. Lots of other Alleys in Indiana in the early 1800's seem to come from those areas.

Jay Alley

http://www.defense.gov/releases/release.aspx?releaseid=13605

IMMEDIATE RELEASE	No. 490-10
June 14, 2010
Air Force MIAS from Vietnam War are Identified

The Department of Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office (DPMO) announced today that the remains of four U.S. servicemen, missing in action from the Vietnam War, have been identified and returned to their families for burial with full military honors.

(See Link for Complete Release)

Sgt. James H. Alley, Plantation, Fla.,

all U.S. Air Force.

On April 6, 1972, six airmen were flying a combat search and rescue mission in their HH-53C Super Jolly Green Giant helicopter over Quang Tri Province in South Vietnam when they were hit by enemy ground fire and crashed. Joint U.S. – Socialist Republic of Vietnam (S.R.V.) field investigations from 1989 to 1992, led by the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC), yielded evidence leading to an excavation at the crash site in 1994 as well as two reported burial sites. Team members recovered human remains and personal effects as well as aircraft debris. As a result of these recoveries, all six men on the aircraft were accounted-for in 1997 and buried as a group at Arlington National Cemetery near Washington, D.C. Three were individually identified at that time. Recent technical advances enabled JPAC to identify additional remains to be those of Prater.

Previously, in 1988, the S.R.V. turned over remains they attributed to an American serviceman, however, the name did not match anyone lost or missing from the Vietnam War. The remains were held by JPAC pending improved technology which might have facilitated an identification later.

In the mid-2000s, JPAC's laboratory gained increased scientific capability to associate the 1988 remains to the correct loss. The Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory (AFDIL) tested these remains against all those servicemembers who were MIA from the Vietnam War with negative results. In 2009, AFDIL expanded its search to make comparisons with previously- resolved individuals. As a result of AFDIL's mitochondrial DNA testing, JPAC scientists determined that these remains were associated with four of the six airmen from the 1972 crash.

For additional information on the Defense Department's mission to account for missing Americans, visit the DPMO Web site at http://www.dtic.mil/dpmo or call 703-699-1169.

**********

Not related.
Re: Alley Ancestors Book

Sir I see that you have the Alley/Allee book. I have come upon some conflicting data that I hope you can assit with. A Thomas Alley/Allee born 1722 VA, d. 1780 - by some accounts is the father of Nicholas (who married (1)Ann Stephens and (2) Mary Dennis. Nicholas is the father of Jonathan Buford, and so on... the problem I have is the ages. Nicholas b. 1/May/1735 is born when Thomas is only 13 and Thomas' wife (Jane Ealey) only 12 years old. Is there a mistake here? In addition, There is another account showing Nicholas and decendants stemming from another line (D'Allee) is there anything to that? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated since that is my paternal grand mothers ancestry. thanks! David Lyttle

Re: Josiah Jordan and his Descendants 1760-1979

Hello Jerry,

I'm also a descendant of Josiah Jordan and have the book "Josiah Jordan and his Descendants 1760 to 1979". I'm currently in the Army National Guard and had planned upon retirement to do what you have already started, rewrite the book in a updated format. My line is:
Josiah Jordan / Josiah Henry / John Murdock / John Murdock Jr / Clifford Vern / John William / Aaron (me)

Are you still adding information to your updated version of the Jordan Book? On Genealogy.com I found a message on a forum from a person looking for the parents of Josiah Jordan. This person is a historian from near Chester, VT. She stated that Josiah had a brother named Jesse that also served as a Matross and served in the same Artillery Regiment. She thinks that their father may have been a Ship Captain.

Thanks,
Aaron Jordan
Sturgis, SD
aaronjordan66@mac.com

I found a couple of photos of an Orval Alley in my Dad's photo album. These are from the 1930s in Albuquerque. Do you think they are of your father?
