I wish I had better information. I know only that my gg-grandmother on my mom's side was Jesus Almeida, born in 1844 in probably Zacatecas (that's where her children, my g-grandfather and grandfather, were born. My grandfather was from Fresnillo). Jesus was the daughter of Candido Almeida and Juana Perez. That is all I know. I can't seem to find any more information anywhere!
Do you have any Batres connexion?

Are you still looking for Almeida in Matanzas? I recently learned that Julian Almeida lived in Colon in the 1950s, and that his parents got married in Canarias in 1877. I have a few more details. Maybe we can help each other.

I am descended from a Zulma Perrillier in the West Indies who may be the connected to yours (it's not exactly a common name!)I know nothing about her antecedents, only that she married Antoine Delisle (who died in St Barts) and had children Emile, Frederick, Gustave and Zulma. Does this tally up with anything you may know?

However, I guessed her birth date as earlier (c.1800) on the grounds that her grand daughter Agnes Delisle was born in 1854. Could your Zulma Perrillier possibly have been born earlier?

I would be interested to know anything at all you know about the Perrillier family cos i don't know anything! Thanks, Emily

There was a manny almeida funeral directer in that area, in the late 1940, he was an uncle of mine that I didn't know, My mothers maiden name was Alice Almedia from pawtucket R.I. and she had quite a few brothers an sisters. I ddi not really know any of them. From what I have been told??? the Almedia name is a name that a lot of Potugese families took when they came to America. The youngest aunt that may still be alive{ Just a possibility} was married and her name was Carmelia riese. I was orphaned, and spent my life not knowing them

My grandfather & other Cardiff based Cape Verdeans

My grandfather was a Pedro known as Peter Almeida born 1879c - think Boa Vista but unsure, and my mother was the result of a relationship he had with my grandmother who lived in Cardiff, UK, where there was a large Cape Verdean community of mainly merchant seamen. He left Cardiff prob 1940's.

Another Cape Verdean to whom he was quite close - Jose, known as Joe Almeida b. 23rd April, 1887, remained in Cardiff and died there in 1982. His parents were Antonio Jose and Maria but I understand they died when he was very young and he was raised by his sisters.

There were one or two other Almeidas connected to Cardiff or Barry Docks - Manuel Hipolito Almeida born CV 4th April 1887 parents Hipolito Barnabi & Gertrude Maria and naturalised in 1936 as was Jose, and a Francisco Almeida born 1887 (5th Jan) St Vincent, parents Agustino & Loudina, who was also naturalised in 1936.

Any information on Pedro or Jose would be appreciated.

Almeida - New Bedford, Mass, Family of Joseph Almeida born 1878

I am looking for my relatives from New Bedford, Mass.
My Grandmothers Uncle Joseph Almeida was born in the Azores
and came to America in 1893. His wife's name was Agustina.
The had seven children. The oldest son was Joseph born in
1907. I have been searching but their are so many Almeida's
in New Bedford. I have received my grandmother baptism from
the church in New Bedford, St John the Baptist that all of the children of Joseph would have baptisted but the church
would not check.

If this sounds like your family or you know of my relatives
please send me a email

thankyou

Re: What is the origin of the name Almeida

The earliest reference of the name 'almeida' is from portugal, where dom fransisco de almeida was from. he was the viceroy of india for portugal. as i am one of his descendants, i am almost certain that 'almeida' is a portuguese/spanish christian name.

I have sketchy, but similar details about my grandfather, so I thought I'd give it a shot and ask. His father also did not marry his mother and had several children. But as far as I know, all of them stayed in Portugal (Lisbon) except my grandfather who emigrated to Spain.
Almeida family members from August Almeida from San Miguel Islands

I would like to make contact with any relatives from the Azores Islands or from Portugal. My grandparents names are Maria Bandara Almeida and August Almeida. They came from Terceira and San Miguel in the Azores and I know they have family still in Portugal. They settled in New Bedford in the early part of this century where my grandmother worked in cotton factories. They came to California and did tenant farming in Marin and up the coast of California. If you think you might be related or might have family who knew them, I'd love to hear from you.

My father was from Limonar, Matanzas, and had Almeida cousins. I remember my father saying that he had cousins in Cardenas, but don't know if they were the Almeida family.

This is what I have about them: My grandfather, Domingo Castellanos had a sister, Panchita, who married Raimundo Almeida.

Children of Panchita Castellanos and Raimundo Almeida:
Luis
Pedro
Anastasio
Julian - married Maria Jesus Robaina

Children of Julian Almeida and Maria Jesus Robaina:
Felix
Julio
Pastora
Sara
Mariana - married Porfirio Ramos

Children of Mariana Almeida and Porfirio Ramos:
Porfirio
Miriam

Please contact me if any of these names sounds familiar. I am particularly interested in connecting with Mariana's children (they are in some photos I have from the late 1940s in Havana), but would also like to find descendants of any of the other Almeida cousins.
