I’d like to make contact with the descendants of George E and Arminta (Shrader) Alsip. Their children were Mary B, Catherine R, Dorothy L, and William F Alsip. Arminta was my great-grandfather Harry E Shrader’s sister. I have a number of pictures and a little family history I would be willing to share of the Shraders and Alsips and would like to learn any family history you may have.

Bill Schrader

Sorry it has taken me so long to get the content of the letter. My computer at home died on me and I have not had an opportunity to use the one at my office. The letter is written on COAST ARTILLERY, CAMP EUSTIS, VIRGINIA letterhead and is dated Dec. 3, 1918. ( I am typing it as written, with no corrections)

Dear Pal,

I received your letter of Oct 13 and was glad to hear from you. I was at Fort Stevens Ore when I got your card. I was there 20 days and put 15 in the hospital and have been here about a month. Haven't been in Dallas since the 7th of October but I get a letter from Elma everyday~so she wants me to get home as soon as I can and I expect to be their by Christmas as near as I know now. Wish you could be their with me.
Say this is some place. Mud up to our knees. It is worse than Oregon ever was.
Yes I have quit farming for good as far as I know now but I might go back to farming when I get back. I have got me team(not sure of this word) left yet. But if I do go to farming it will be a small place. Frank Brown has gone to Salem to work for his brother in law. Is a candy store and I might make a deal with him on his place if I can get the right kind of deal. The last I heard about it he didn't have any body on his place yet. But I intend on staying with the old man this winter when I get back and work for him. Well I haven't got anything to write about so will close for now.
Address my mail to
Vern B Alsip
Monmouth
Polk Co. Ore
ofo TJ Alsip (That is last thing written on the letter. I cannot determine who the letter is to, as the salutation is Dear Pal, but I expect it was to my grandfather, William Earl Mangis)
I have come across a letter from Vern. B Alsip to my grandfather written in 1918. He refers to his wife Elma in this letter. It is on military letterhead. It came from a stack of "unknown" research items my dad gave me. I cannot be certain that it is even to my grandfather as the salutation is simply "dear pal". I would love to get this letter back to the rightful heirs if anyone is interested in having it. Let me know :)

As a retirement hobby, I rescue old photos in antique stores, track down descendants and return the photos (at no charge). I have a photo of Lizzie, whom I believe was born in 1848 in Pennsylvania; she married Joseph M Helman and lived the rest of her life in Cumberland MD. She may have no living descendants, but I'm pretty sure her brother Reamer Herts Alsip does. I would like to return the photo to her family. Any help would be appreciated. I'm attaching jpgs of both the front and back of the tintype.

He married a Scottish woman Ann Stewart ca. 1768 and they came to the US in the same year. He was in the revolutionary war. They had 5 known children and settled in Virginia. One of his daughters settled in North Carolina which is my branch.

Hello,
Jacob & Susanna Alsip would be my great great great grandparents. I have been on ancestry.com working on our family tree & let me tell you, it has been interesting. I had to get my mom & dad involved & then my grandparents which are Alsip's. My grandpa ( Max Alsip ) is Ray Thomas Alsip's son & Ray Thomas Alsip is Josephus Alsip's son which then leads to Jacob Alsip ( I attached the pix I posted on my family tree). I have posted a few pictures on here & have many more to post. I am sure my grandpa would enjoy visiting with you about the Alsip family. I have not got to look @ your family tree yet but I am guessing you must be related some how. I hope we can help each other. Thanks & I look forward to hearing from you,
Jason Willoughby

I was looking at Death records of KY 1911-2000 on the Alsup Connection web site and came across Bertha Alsip d. 9/7/1990 in Whitley Co. KY. They have her listed as daughter of Alexander Spenser Alsip and Mary Clark. They have her age listed as 72. We have her birth date as Feb. 1927 which would have made her 63. Does anyone know anything about her? We have been looking for her for years and was told she had been missing since age 8. I would like to find out if this is the same person.

I noticed it has been a few years since this was posted hopefully you have found some more info. But just in case...from my research, i believe that I am also a decendent of Jacob and Susanna Alsip, their son, Josephus Alsip(b. 1842) married Anna Marie Poffenberger, their daughter, Susan Alice Alsip married Frank Lenhart (my 2nd great grandfather)
I just began work on compiling a family tree. I don't have much yet, but I will share what I have. I am hoping you might be able to enlighten me also :)

Hi James...I emailed you and I am posting here too.

Hi...

I am the gggg(that is the 4th) granddaughter to Joseph Alsip who, from what I received from Henry Connor(An expert on the Alisp family) was Jacob's brother. That is what I have concerning that area. That they were brothers, abet not close in ages and all. Another source, which I can't remember at the moment, says that they could have been father and son..but i am not sure, so I will stick with brothers.

So please do send the information that you have! When I realized that I was also connected to that side through Joseph, I was thrilled...I wasn't sure I was until I started looking into what info I had received from Henry Connor. So totally cool! I found another relative! :-)

Anyway, please send what you have....and I will see if I can send you my info on Joseph's side. I have it on family tree maker and I will see if I can send it to you. I am new at sending through email....

So take care and can't wait for the info!

Thanks for responding...

Stephanie Grohol
