You don't really have to order the book, it's been online for free for years and is readily accessible for anyone to read or download in many places. And while it does contain some good info,keep in mind it is an old book written during a time when not all of the records needed could be found, so be careful about some of the lineages. Some of the lineages are incorrect since it appears the author may not have been aware of more than one individual lived in certain locations with the same names, and some families have the wrong descendants connected. I would advise you to use it as a guide, then go out and research what it says further to prove who those people are.

Emory Lee Alston was the son of Thomas Lee Alston - Smith Co., TX; grandson of William Henry Alston, Parker/Smith Cos., TX; great grandson of George Washington Alston, Smith Co., TX, born in Halifax, NC 1820; and gg-grandson of Peter B. Alston, Chambers, Co. AL, born in SC in 1796. This is my Alston lineage, but so far I have not been able to connect them to any from the SC or NC Alston family.

Unaccounted for Alstons in SC c. 1800

Wondering about three unaccounted for Alstons in SC in the late 1700's - early 1800's.

A Peter Alston is mentioned in 1780 as having served on a jury in Camden, SC which implies that he was a resident there. Not sure if this would be the Peter Allston who married Mary Bacot and lived near Darlington at this time.

A John Allston is also mentioned in 1788 and 1780 as having served on the jury in Camden, SC. His property is listed as between the Broad and Catawba Rivers north of Camden. Wondering if these two are connected to the Allstons in Georgetown/Waccamaw areas of SC or a different group altogether.

Also in the 1800 census a Samuel I. Alston is listed as a resident of Liberty, Marion District. Not sure if this is Liberty, SC which is now in Pickens Co., SC located in the northern tip of the state, or Marion, SC which at this time was Liberty, Co. in northeast SC.

Any information?

Answering my own post. Samuel Alston came to SC under the Bounty Program and as an Irish Protestant received 100 acres of land upon arrival in SC. The SC official in recording ing Samuel's grant mistakingly spelled his name "Aston." I have a copy of the plat for his grant and his acreage which was in Craven Co., SC on Lynch's Creek, near Camden, SC.

Most who came on this ship were originally Scottish, and as Presbyterians went to Long Creek, SC, near Abbeville, SC and settled near the church. Because Samuel's grant was not located there, this makes me think his lineage could have been from northern England, possibly Lancashire or Cumbria where many Alstons were from who were indeed Protestant but not Presbyterian (Scottish).

Sill searching for any information on this Samuel Alston and what became of him. A William Alston also came over in the Bounty Program for Protestants in SC at this time and received 100 acres, but cannot find anything on William.

Noticed also a Peter Alston, who in 1780 served on a jury in Camden, SC. Also a John Allston at this same time, both in 1788 and 1780 in Camden, SC. The location of his property is listed as between the Broad and Catawba Rivers north of Camden. Not sure if these are any relation to the Alston families in Georgetown, Darlington and Waccammaw areas of SC.

It is over 10 years since you asked this question, but I have Sally Bettis from Moore County, N.C. (her father was a Doctor) marrying a William ALSTON of N.C.
The whole family moved from N.C. to Wayne Co. Missouri (?) around 1803-1806.
Their children were
Eilijah Bettis ALSTON, 1804- ?
Ransom Drew ALSTON 1810 - ?
Overton Bettis ALSTON 1812 - ?
James ALSTON 1815 - ?

I also have William marrying Emeline Jane PACE (1822 - ?) no date.

I have no other info on them, but would be pleased to hear if you can add to them for my database.

The data I have indicates that Sarah Sally Bettis (1771-1815) married John Ashe Alston (1780-1831). Hope this helps.

Descendants of Mary Eugenia Turman Alston (wife of James Merriman Alston > Ga. to Ala.) of Midway, Alabama have a post card.
Written on the undivided back: 'This side for address only.' printed under Post Card. 'Place 1 cent stamp here'.
Historical post card guides state: "If no message was permitted on the address side, the card probably pre-dated March of 1907."

On the reverse side of the post card is a black and white photograph of 4 men in evening wear with top hats & cigars.
It is signed #1 Spotwold Burwell, #2 Maurice O'Neil, #3 Samuel Watkins #4 Walter J. Alston Your humble Kinsmen [or Kinsman].
I will be happy to share a copy with anyone connected with these individuals.

Does someone recognize these names? Can you pls. tell me their family connection and the names of the parents of Walter J. Alston?

Gloria LaVerne Alston, 55, passed away on July 5, 2011 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Miss Alston was born on September 22, 1955 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to Eldridge D. Alston and Maggie Irene Hairston Alston.
She graduated from North Forsyth High School in 1973 and attended Winston-Salem State University.
Gloria was a reservation sales representative for Piedmont Airlines and US Airways for 25 years before leaving in 2005.
Gloria was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.
She was a member of Fries Memorial Moravian church in Winston-Salem, N.C.
She enjoyed traveling, the beach and nature.
Her mother, Maggie Irene Hairston Alston, preceded her in death.
Gloria leaves behind a son, Wali Alston of Charlotte, NC; a grandson, Elijah Kennedy of Winston-Salem, NC; her father, Eldridge D. Alston (Shirley) of Kernersville, NC; a brother, Nigel D. Alston (Sarah) of Winston-Salem, NC; a sister, Angela M. Alston-Boyd (Charles) of Winston-Salem, NC; three nieces, Alana Alston, Yasmeen Alston, and Maggie Alston-Boyd all of Winston-Salem, NC; she also leaves behind numerous cousins, and special friends.

Caramel Alston Russell passed December 26, 2011 after a lengthy illness.(Franklin County, Ohio)

She was enjoying her retirement for the last few years with travel and recreational activities as a cheerful member of the "Ward Family YMCA Active Older Adults" program.

Caramel was preceded in death by her parents Ruth and Benjamin Alston and a brother Douglas Alston.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Dr. Joseph J. Russell; daughter, Cassandra Russell-Isiguzo (Alan); grandson, Alan-Russell Isiguzo; sister, Ruth Dennis-Phillip; three brothers, Benjamin (Claudette), Calvin (Carolyn), and Leo J. Dennis, numerous other relatives and friends.
Caramel received her early education in the Richmond Public Schools and continued her studies earning a bachelers degree in education from Virginia Union University, Richmond, VA, and Masters in education from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN.
She spent her professional life as a teacher in both middle and high schools before joining university faculty and staff at Indiana University (Bloomington, IN) and The Ohio State University, (Columbus, OH) as an academic counselor and coordinator of the Minority Students Mentoring Program. Her drive, passion and success in her professional life led her students to affectionately crown her "Mother Culture" in appreciation for her understanding and guidance of students with academic challenges.
A celebration of life for Caramel will be held Monday, January 3, 2012 at Faith Ministries Church, 2747 Agler Road, Columbus, OHIO, 43224, Dr. C. Dexter Wise III, officiating with visiting and viewing from 10-11:30 a.m. and the service beginning at 11:30 a.m.

I've got a lot of SILVERs in my tree, some are cousins, some are related by marriage only. After I saw your message, I looked at the Birth Index to find the parents of Mary Davis Silver, and found I have them in my tree. Her parents were WILLIAM LEE SILVER, b. 1904 Warren Co.,NC/d. Sept. 26, 1980 Louisburg, Franklin Co.,NC, and ANNIE RICHARDSON, b. June 21, 1908 Warren Co., d. June 24, 1990 Louisburg; they're both buried at the Tillman P. Lynch Cemetery in Halifax Co.
WILLIAM LEE SILVER was the son of JONES LEE ROBERT SILVER (1871-1947) & LOUISA L. RICHARDSON (1879-1949); JONES was the son of WILLIAM HENRY SILVER (1846-1929) & NANCY ANN RICHARDSON (1849-1926); WILLIAM H. was the son of JONES LEE (b.1825) & MARTHA SILVER, b. 1828. JONES LEE was white, he & MARTHA were not married, but they had several children together. MARTHA's mother was SUSAN SILVER (b. 1780/d.shortly after 1870) and an Unknown father; SUSAN was not married and had several children. She was the dau/of EDWARD SILVER & MILLY CHAVIS, b. 1749, from Granville Co.,NC.
These were all Free families who had never been slaves, so they are found in census, marriage and other records of the time.

We called him Pop and her Maw. I don't remember too much of maw because she died when I was 5. I really miss her. I was with her more than my parents. My mom dad and sister slept upstairs and I had my own room in the den right beside their room. She used to get up every night and take me to the bathroom I used to tap her foot softly (she was a very light sleeper). She was tall and beautiful her hair was long and jet black. God I miss her. I loved my pop to death. We were in new York but you couldn't take the country out of him. He had a garden in front of his house. He called me sweetheart or something along those lines because he couldnt pronounce names. I remember he called my sister Kortney Kokee lol. He had a dog named Bud we used to play with. Pop loved to be outside on his porch he used to smoke his cigars and watch my sister and I roll down the hill on our big wheels. They were both loving people and I am tearing up thinking about my maw and pop

Otis Alston was my great grandfather. Mary Silvers was my great grand mother. I wrote a post about them. Even though they are my great grands I call them my grandfather. Their son Ernie Alston is my moms biological father but they took care of her from when she was a baby as their own. We called them maw and pop They are truely missed

Dr. Robinson-Grigsby: I am Rev Charles B. Alston, Sr. My family is from Warren County,NC. James and Sallie Alston were my paternal grandparents. My father was named John Earl and my mother Willie Beatrice. They moved to PA where we were raised. I remember names such as Louisa, Thomas, Lula(sister of maternal grandmother Mary), Daisy (called "Baby Doll") by my mom. Most of the names mentioned in these blogs are very familiar as well as the places. There are so many of us that I have to check with my family who still live there to try to keep up. Our family church there is Greenwood Baptist, where my parents are buried. I am awaiting info from my niece who traced our family back to slavery. Stay in touch please. By the way...I am a church musician as well.

I am researching my 6th great grandfather Japhet Alston. It looks like he was born in 1770 and died 7-31-1842.

He may have married Sarah Decker

Possible Children of Sarah & Japhet Alston:
Adam
William: born:1790
David: b:1791
Moses: b:1792
Japhet: b: 1793 d:1873
Elizabeth: b: 1812
Sarah: b:1812 d:1876

Moses also married a Sarah Ann Decker and had possibly 2 children.

I can not connect them all together the dates are just not adding up. I had Sarah Deckers Birthdate as 1780 & I doubt she had her first child at 10yrs old. Also I found Japhet Alston married Sarah Decker in 1805 finding this possible that I have their children wrong or birthdates wrong. I hope this isn't too confusing & sometime can help me tie up some unanswered questions! :) Thanks so much for any help, it's greatly appreciated!!

I found an Elmer Beach Alston, born 11/28/1888 in New Jersey - Is this your grandfather? What I would need to know to connect him is his father's name - do you know that? I am actually looking for Alstons in the 1700s, but this might help with some of my great grandmother's siblings.

My grandfather is Elmer B. Alston. He and his wife Anna (Haberlandt)Alston lived in Newark. My mother was born in Newark, NJ in 1914. Elmer and Anna had only one other daughter named Nela. I know nothing of any previous generation of Elmer other than his family lived in NJ for several generations. Does this fill any gaps for you?

Hello, sorry I am just getting around to responding to this post. Anyway, for some reason, Burnest Alston of Baltimore is somewhat familiar. I will do some investigating and let you know what I come up with.

The FAISON and ALSTON surnames (among many others) somehow
connect to my WEEDEN,WHILDEN,WEELDON/BROWN line of SC,NC,VA,
RI,MN,TN,MA,CT,IN,NS and Canada.
FAIL to make ANY CONNECTIONS after 13yrs of research, but
keep on trying.
Anything familiar?
My family was in Wilmington, NC as of 1870-----believe they
were slaves in SC prior to that time.

Abraham H. Alston of Beaufort County, SC is listed in the 1890 US Federal Census. Received a Pension as Union Veteran of the Civil War - Dept. of The Navy - Rank Naval Pilot. His sons relocated to Sumter, SC many years later. His Daughter Marie, a Dressmaker, married Jacob Fickling a Chef/Cook in 1891.

I have some brothers of my great grandmother who did. There names were Rodin, Elbert and maybe Ira Alston. There was also a distabt cousin named Ben Alston who was said to have gone. Are any of these names familiar?
