HI: This year has been rather unkind. I lost my husband and three close cousins, along with a surgery. However I am making it OK. As to the Buhrdorf family I have a copy of my husband's grandfather, Friedrich Hermann Arend Buhrdorf Born Borstel 2 Oct 1873 @ 5:00 am. His parents are listed as; Wollmeyer (sheep farmer and sells milk) Herman Heinrich Buhrdorf of Borstel, his wife, Anna Elizabeth Watje. (No dates for them) Baptised 10 Oct 1873 in the Dovoerden Parish page 157. Sponsors: Friedrich Meyer, Herman Niebuhr small farmer, Arend Hoyer estate owner, Herman Oldsmeyer estate owner. The Pastor A. Hartwig baptised "Fred" as he was known her in the States. He had a copy of this certificate made 1890 by Pastor Bodenstade before he sailed in 1891. He lived with an uncle Hans near Seward, Ne. returning after 5 years, 1896,for a visit to Germany. After returning he married Minnie Hering liveing near Seward their remaining years. I do have a photo of Fred and Minnie as well as, who we were told were Fred's parents, Herman and Anna. In the charcoal drawing anna is wearing a broach matching one we were given.
I have been given the dates of Herman Heinrich Buhrdorf b.
1770, which does not correspond. A Burdorf may have married into the Buhrdorf family as Fred brought a trunk
back with him containing pictures and information (which we were privaliged to see a small amount.) The name painted on the burlap top of the trunk was painted, F.H.A. Burdorf. If you and anyone else has some information I would appreciate hearing from you. I would really be interested to get some dates on the parents and pin down the homes of the Buhrdorf/Burdorf families. Looking forward to hearing from someone. Please use e-mail address: abbuhrdorf@msn.com.

What are the birth dates of these ancestors.

My furthest back ancestor was Stephen Ambrose b. 1786 Wiltshire but new research on ancestry.com indicates his father was a Thomas Ambrose b. 1766 Gloucestershire, and Thomas's father was Henry.

There is also a line of Ambroses in Gloucestershire - Thomas b. 1700 married Anne. They had 6 children: James, Thomas, Anne, Mary, and Thomas.

We could be related.

Any help appreciated!

Help with my GFs place of birth please

I recently got hold of a copy of my GFs death certificate which also told me his birthplace & date.

His birth date is the same as I've thought but his birthplace was recorded as 'London'. This came as a surprise as I've always been told he was from Poland or Lithuania.

I ordered a birth cert through the GRO based on this but there's no record of his birth in London (England).

The question is, where do I go from here?

Regards

Clare

I've emailed you and enclosed the obituary for who I think if your ggg-grandmother. Please let me know if I'm right.

My GGF and his brother came to North America from Bukovina in old Austro Hungary around 1901. They had been cavalry officers in the Habsburg Army. They first went to the USA, story goes they worked in the coal mines in Pennsylvania, then my GGF went back to Europe, and a little later immigrated to Canada. Some of the old records do show the name as: Ambrus.

HI: I am no help to you on this request, however, you have a family history of Hinrich Buhrdorf b 1770, wife Anna Wetje. Where did you obtain the information on this couple and the date of birth?
I have a baptismal certificate (date 19 October 1873) of one, Friedrich Herman Arend Buhrdorf, born 2 Oct 1873 in Borstel. His parents are listed as; Wollmeyer (sheep farmer & sells milk) Herman Heinrich Buhrdorf of Borstel and his wife, Anna nee Watje.
It shows as sponsors; Friedrich Meyer of Waluisdorf,
small farmer- Hermann, Niebuhr _________; estate owner, Arend Hoyer of Waluisdorf; estate owner Herman Herman Oldsmeyer of Weifsel.
The parish was Dovoerden. There of course is no date of birth for Heinrich or Anna, which makes it impossible for them to be Friedrich's parents. Could you please help me out with this Buhrdorf line? Would appreciate any info.
Sincerely, Audrey

This is probably John G. Ambrose, resident of Springfield from 1880 to 1900. He was born Dec 1846 in Ohio to Peter Ambrose and Mary Glenn.

Hello,

Seeking information on J.P. Ambrose, President of the Commercial Bank in Springfield, MO back in 1894. He wrote a letter, in my family's possession, to the President of William Jewell College in 1894. In it, he requested "the benefits of my scholarship" to be extended to my great-grandfather, Martin Delaware Scrivener beginning the academic year of 1894-1895.

There is a connection by marriage between my Scrivner relatives and the Ambrose family, but I'm not sure which Ambrose wrote this letter.
