Think I can answer the George one ... My dad says that Cecil was definitely one of 17 children, but I could only ever find 16, until I went into the war records in here. There was a George who lived at 4 Margery Park Road (where David lived with Sarah) who enlisted. Don't know the date of birth, but maybe he's number 17??

I have sent off for some birth and marriage certs and got some back. I will scan them and post them on here in case you want to copy them. Lots relate to Daisy Emma's family. She was married to Cecil Edwin, Minnie's brother, so may not be of interest to you.
I also contacted Valance House, which is a local history place in Barking. They gave me a link to the Essex records office. Lots of their records have been made available online, but sadly not all. They said that Essex are going to start charging for looking at them, but at the moment it is free, so worth a look.
Here is the link: http://seax.essexcc.gov.uk/displayParishContents.asp?selAlph...
It will take you straight to the Barking parish page, but you can change that at the top. It is a bit slow and sometimes you change the parish and find that the drop down menu for the churches hasn't changed! I went backwards and forwards through it and eventually you get there.
I found lots for Daisy Emma's side and am now going to make a start on Cecil Edwin Amey's side.
Thanks again for the pictures.
Jacqui

Thanks very much!
I can't remember from the threads if you are related to Daisy Emma nee Hicks, but if you are, there was someone who had some pictures of some Hicks from way back on their family tree. I can't remember whose tree it was, but I searched for 'Hicks.' It was a James Groves (1837 - 1912) married to a Harriet Markin. They may be of interest to you too? They would be Daisy's great great aunt and uncle I think. Looks like they emigrated to Australia?
Thanks again. Look forward to your post.
Jacqui

Hello. I am researching the Amey family tree. Via Census returns, I have got back as far as a Samuel Amey (b.1812 in Eastwood, Essex and d.1889). His father was Joseph (b.1782). I think his wife was Elizabeth nee Smith (1790 - 1860). Does anyone have any information regarding siblings of Samuel?
Thanks.
Hi. Sarah seems to be my great great grandmother too. My great grandfather was Cecil (one of her sons). Can I be really cheeky? Is there any chance you could post the photo of the wedding, as I have no photos beyond my nan and grandad in the thirties? As well as the fact I am really enjoying researching my amily, my daughter is studying the Victorians at school and would love to have a photo of some 'real' Victorian relatives. I hope you don't mind me asking? Thanks very much.

Are you able to send private messages on ancestry as if we could contact each other that way I can let you have my email and I can send you all that I have found so far.

As to how we are related, Norman married my DAd's oldest sister Em so we are only related by marriage. My aunt asked me to look into the family tree after my uncle died as she had had little or no contact all of her marriage with the Ameys, I have been looking on and off for four years and not found a lot to be honest but anything I do have you are welcome to have as well.

Vicky

Thank you. That would be fantastic. I'm only sorry I don't have anything to put on here for you. I only have a photo of Cecil's son's wedding (Cedric ... my grandad and nan) in about 1934.
You must be my generation then ... some sort of cousin ... but I'm not good at working out how many times removed!
Yes Daisy and Cecil had 5 sons.
I went onto google maps ... the house David and Sarah lived in still exists ... very posh. I think your great-nan may have lived there too: 4 Margery Park Road, Stratford, London E7. It's hidden by a tree, but you can see the neighbour's houses. I'm not sure how to upload pictures, but will try to find out.
Thanks again.

Ronald died of TB in the 1940s, Reg died in the early 1970s. Mum is still in contact with Reg's daughter Pam who lives in Kent.

I've found a family tree which notes that Cecil married Daisy and had 5 sons

I have now gone through Mum's suitcase of photos/letters/junk. There is a letter from Mabel to Minnie discussing Percy's death during the 'Cambrai affair' it then goes on the mention Cecil's appeal coming up to be exempted for a further 6 months as he was a St Johns Ambulance man.

It seems Grace, Dorothy and Mabel lived together. Dorothy was the last to pass away of the 3, she had a fire in her flat and was moved to a home, she had a fall and broke her hip from which she went downhill.

I have a letter from David to Minnie breaking the news of Sarahs's death, the handwriting is quite hard to read but Sarah died in his arms.

Some of the photos Mum has are not written on with who is who, none had Cecil's name on but there are 2 family gatherings, one is Minnie's wedding but the other I have no idea about but will upload as soon as I can.

There are portraits of Stephen Harvey, David Amey, Sarah Amey, Percy, George, Eva and Grace.

It was fascinating going through what Mum has.

Regards Tracey

Wow ... you seem to have lots of the family personal history (the interesting stuff!!)
Can I ask who you are related to in the Amey household please? I am Cecil's great grandaughter through my dad.
I was a bit nervous about going on the messages board ... I only subscribed to this a couple of weeks ago and am hooked ... not much housework being done here at the moment! Do you have any photos? My dad doesn't have anything.
He lived with Cecil and Daisy as a young boy. He remembers them breeding rabbits during the war. His favourite was Snowball. Apparently Cecil and Daisy used to tease him when they were having rabbit for dinner saying, 'ooh Snowball tastes good!' And dad would run out to see if she was still there!

I was thinking that as David had left his money to 16 children, there can't have been much left!!! Hahaha.
I think I have made my family tree public. I have found out quite a bit. I went on the government site for birth and marriage certificates etc and am going to start requesting some, working back one generation at a time, in case I have gone wrong somewhere! It's much cheaper than requesting them from here.

Hiya

I will ask my cousin whether he knows about the Sarson vinegar thing - Cecils grandfather Samuel was a soda water manufacturer so that could have developed into vinegar. They cant have been done out of business too much cos David Amey left quite a lot of money in his will.

Daisy had 5 sisters that I have found so far Maud M, Kate Emily, Blanche Emily, Dorothy Daisy and Irene Maud - could be more that were born and died between census's not sure.

V

Norman might be my great uncle and Cecil Edwin and Daisy were my great grandad and great nan. My dad reckons he had something to do with making vinegar and had run ins with Sarsons, who probably did him out of business, but I can't find anything on the census returns about this? Does anybody know anything about this.
My dad seemed to think his nan, (Daisy), was one of a large family, but I can only find a few siblings on the census returns.

As I don't pay any subscription yet,I can't see that I can send private messages.

Once I have a new printer for my laptop I will try to upload the photo.

Minnie had 3 children,Laurence (known as Reg), Ronald and Doris.

It is thought that Ernest committed suicide as he was caught embezzling, but I have not been able to confirm this yet, also Minnie ran a sweet shop. My Nan wouldn't have anything said against Ernest so not a lot is known about him, it seems he died just before Doris married. I don't think Minnie & my Nan got on too well, Minnie spent her final years living with Reg and his wife.

I'll see if I can get anymore info from Mum, they live in Lincolnshire & I'm visiting next week

I'll let you know when I have the family tree

Tracey

Sarah was my great great grandmother, I believe there were 17 children, my sister has the family tree & haven't seen it since my Nan died in 1997 so I could be out by a few. My Nan was the daughter of Minnie Amey, born 1878 who married Ernest Stebbings in 1900, I have a photo of their wedding day which shows the guests. I know there were lots of spinsters in the family & Minnie married beneath her status.

Hiya

Wow, you are the first descendant of my Ameys I have made contact with, funny you saying it was felt minnie had married beneath her, my Aunt felt that her husband's (Norman Amey) deliberately went out of contact with them because they believed she was way beneath her husband. I did find a reference for a will for David Amey, he left a lot of money to his children.

He was a lovely man my uncle, sadly because of the lack of contact my aunt's family do not have any photos of their grandparents let alone any further back.

I have 16 children so far for David and Sarah, my uncle was descended from Minnie's younger brother Cecil Edwin Amey.

If you ever find a copy of the family tree I would love to have some info from it for them if that would be ok, and the photo would be lovely. If you send a message using the private message rather than this board I can give you my email address.

Vicky
