I have in my notes that Jesse Ammons is the son of Stephen Ammons and Talitha Grantham. He was the brother to Josiah Ammons and Stephen G., sisters are Hannah, Sarah, and Nancy. Sarah and Nancy married Clarks, and Hannah married a Duncan. Josiah Ammons married Elizabeth LNU (maybe Sealey).

Jesse's daughter Caroline married my Josiah's son Howell Ammons. Caroline and Howell were first cousins.

Steven, you note lineage back to (2) Jacobs, I have seen some data on line, but would like to see your ancestry tree of these eartly Ammons, if you would be so kind. I feel comfortable going back to Thomas 1748, brother Joshua 1756, beyond that I can only assume. Your help would be appreciated. Thanks, J Ammons

Hi, I have found both my wife and I have Ammons in our ancestry. My wife's line goes as far back as Jacob 1654-1725. My line goes back to Jacob 1689-1743. I'm wondering if anyone has found a connection to these 2 Jacob's. Jacob (1689) had a son named Jacob whereas the Other Jacob (1654) had a son named John.

I am surprised you haven't had more responses. I did look at the DNA web page, but unfortunately don't have a male Arman handy. I'd have to find a cousin willing to participate.

I am interested in the surnames Arman, Armon, and variations. I have traced my ancestry back to Thomas Armon of Livingston County, IL, about 1810 to 1844. I'd like to find his ancestors.

I have Thomas Arman of Saint Francois County, MO, but I can't prove the connection. I have no info on this Thomas before the Revolution, so could be the spelling changed then.

Hulan James Ammons - Have you run across this name?

While searching for information on my husband's Ammons ancestors, I ran across a WWI draft registration for Hulan James Ammons of Braxton, MS. He was born June 25, 1880, and he listed John Young of Braxton as the person who would always know how to reach him.

Do any of you recognize this name? I'm curious as to which Ammons family he belongs to. My husband's great-uncle was Dewey Hulen Ammons, son of Rosie Jane Walls and Henry Franklin Ammons of Simpson Co. MS, grandson of John Wesley Ammons originally of Rankin Co. but later of Braxton, Simpson Co. MS. I've never run across the name HULEN/HULAN before, and thought that this may very well mean he's part of the same family.

Thanks for any input!

I don't know if you are still following this thread, but if you will do a google search (Andrew Auman Family)I think you will find out some things.
I have been trying for years to make the connection to another country but have not yet.
Through all my research there are so many ways to spell the Auman name,I just don't know (and maybe never will know) how it was spelled before they came to America, for one reason maybe whoever listened to how they pronounced their name wrote it down as it sounded and not as it was or maybe it was a widow woman that did not know how to spell her childrens last name or there could have been different spellings from different families or ?the list goes on.
I think that if I went to another country and was not familiar with the language, even after I would tell them and they wrote it ,I could not say for sure if they wrote it right in that language,so I guess I would have to go by that spelling, but in my opinion I would write it as I have always done (Auman)but that is today and not in 1700's,so there really no way of knowing for sure?
I have studied on this for years and still can not find the town in Germany,or where ever my ancestors came from and if is so frustating not knowing for sure.
So,I hope this might help inspire someone to figure this out and if you do please let me know.
Sincerely,Terry Lee Auman b.1965(son of) Willis Lee Auman b.1920 (son of) Elsie(Elsa)T.
Barbara,

I'm not positive, because I have just gotten involved with them. I do know that Mississippi was mentioned. My ggrandfather was born in MS. in 1851 but his name was John C. Ammons. His father was born in S.Carolins and his name was Lewis/Louis A. Ammons. They have a whole lot of Ammons involved with all this research so I'm sure the names in your family will probably be connected with some of them. As I understand it all began with 3 brothers who came from Germany. Thomas, Josuha, and John. Are you on FaceBook?

He was the son of James Young Ammons & Rebecca Griffith, and father of Henry Franklin, John, Ellis Asberry, Luther D., and Fred C. Ammons, all born in MS.

First of all, what year or near about what year was your Jesse L. Ammons born or do you know. I have a Jesse Louis Ammons who was my great Uncle. I have just now been in touch with some Ammons that have a great deal of information about the Ammons. They have Ammons reunions every year. They seem to be awesome people. I have just found some Ammons that are in my line that live right here in Texas and think we have found another one also. To my understanding, When the Ammons first came to this country, it was 3 brother from Germany. I think their names were Thomas, Joshua & John or James. I will give you their info if you would like. Another thing are you on FaceBook? A lot of them are on FB. I can give you their names and you can befriend them. I have more info on them if you would like. They have been researching the Ammons for a long time. If you would like, give me your phone number in a private message and I will call you. My email is saslas@att.net. Or I can give you my phone no if you would rather. let me know, ok? I am really excited to have found these people, they have been very helpful.

Angela, I am very interested in talking to you.Your John Ammons who rode with Francis Marion in the Revolutionary War is the younger brother of Thomas And Joshua Ammons. I am descended from Joshua who served with Lafayette and was at Yorktown when Cornwallis surrendered. Thomas the older brother also rode with Marion. We have recently located the old Ammons Family Cemetery in Marlboro County SC where Thomas and Joshua are buried.I have talked to a couple of your descendants in Brantly County and am well aware of your line. We are having an Ammons Reunion on July 31st in Franklin NC and would really like to have you and others attend. Where are you located. To find out more about what we are doing go to Google,Google groups,Ammons Family Heritage Association and look at what we have.Join the group also. I sure want to hear from you!

Hi Jim, Well it looks like we are distant cousins. I knew that they were buried in Marlboro County but I didn't know that anyone knew the location of their grave sites. This is good news. What part of Marlboro County were they located in, North, South etc? What is the nearest town? Which one of Joshua's sons did you descend down from? I also wanted to ask if you knew anything about the American Indian lines in the Ammons family? I know that the Ammons surname is associated with the Coharie, Lumbee, Saponi and the Indian Tribes in the Marlboro, Dillon and Marion County, S.C. areas. Where in Franklin is the Reunion going to be held? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for responding to my posts. Hope to hear from you soon. Gavin
